The latest 2024 NFL mock draft from NFL.com and Peter Schrager has the Giants trading up for J.J. McCarthy

Would the Giants really do this?

One of the more intriguing questions to ask about the New York Giants before the 2024 NFL Draft: do they grab a wideout in the first round? Or do they move up, perhaps, and grab a quarterback?

Some mocks have them taking a QB like Michael Penix Jr. in the second round. Others have them taking Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he’s got them taking WR Rome Odunze in the first round and his Washington teammate Penix in the second.

In the first mock from NFL.com’s Peter Schrager, he’s got the Giants trading up to No. 4 with the Cardinals to get McCarthy. Here’s what he had to say about this projection:

New York moves up two spots — tossing Arizona this year’s third-round pick (No. 70 overall) and next year’s second-rounder — to land McCarthy. This is merely a mock draft, but I could see this deal coming to fruition. Joe Schoen didn’t draft Daniel Jones, J.J. checks a lot of boxes, and Big Blue can get out of Jones’ contract after this upcoming season. I assume that this projection could make headlines in New York. That’s fine. I know the Giants have been going through all of the quarterback prospects diligently, as they should be.
