Broncos hosted 6 players for tryouts last week

The Broncos brought in three defensive backs and three offensive linemen for tryouts last week.

The Denver Broncos brought in six players for tryouts on Friday — three defensive backs and three offensive linemen — according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

In the secondary, Denver tried out Darren Evans (Louisiana State), Delonte Hood (Peru State) and Jordan Miller (Washington). Evans and Hood are rookies. Miller has spent time with four NFL teams, most recently competing in training camp with the Buffalo Bills this summer.

On the offensive line, the Broncos brought in tackle Jean Delance (Florida) and guards Parker Ferguson (Air Force) and Sadarius Hutcherson (South Carolina). Hutcherson spent last season on injured reserve with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then failed to make their 53-man roster this summer.

At the time of this writing, none of the six players who tried out have been signed. Denver likely views them as potential candidates to add if there are any injuries in the secondary or on the offensive line later in the season.

Cleveland Browns bring in Khalil Davis and 4 others for tryouts

The Cleveland Browns continue to look to churn the bottom of their roster, bringing in five for a tryout.

According to the NFL’s Personnel Notice sent out today, Friday 9/16, the Cleveland Browns brought in five players for tryouts. Defensive tackle Khalil Davis is among the most popular of the names, as he was a sixth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The four other names brought in were former Florida and undrafted free agent Jean Delance, former Morgan State offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley, defensive end Nick Thurman out of Houston, and former Stony Brook linebacker Sam Kamara.

The defensive linemen named could have a direct correlation to the discipline Perrion Winfrey is facing from the team as Roderick Perry has been activated from the Practice Squad for this game against the Jets to sit in for the fourth rounder.

As of now, none of these players have received contract offers to either the active roster nor the practice squad. Keep an eye on these names in the coming days.

Panthers try out 2 offensive linemen on Monday

The Panthers worked out two offensive linemen on Monday.

The Carolina Panthers did more than lick their wounds on Monday following the painful season-opening loss to the Cleveland Browns. They went to work.

Part of that work included putting eyes on two offensive linemen in a pair of tryouts. Per the league transaction wire, the Panthers brought in guard Zack Johnson and tackle Jean Delance.

Johnson stuck around for five seasons at North Dakota State University, where he earned two All-American nods over his time as a three-year starter. The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder then cracked into the pros as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 2020.

He has since, in addition to his practice squad stint in Green Bay, picked up stops with the Arizona Cardinals and, most recently, the Denver Broncos. Johnson has not yet recorded a snap in a regular season game.

Delance, like Johnson, broke in as an undrafted rookie. Following his five years at the University of Florida, the 6-foot-5, 307-pound lineman spent the summer of 2022 with the Chicago Bears.

Florida football’s 2022 NFL draft and free agent tracker

Didn’t watch the draft or catch all of the undrafted free agent signings that relate to UF? Gators Wire has got you covered.

The 2022 NFL draft has come and gone and another crop of talent is headed to the pros from Gainesville. Three players heard their names called over as many days of the draft, but several more former Gators are finding deals as undrafted free agents.

There’s no guarantee that any of the recent signees make it on an opening day roster or even a practice squad for that matter, but it’s the opportunity most of these players have been working toward for most of their lives. Squandering this chance to fulfill the dream of being an NFL athlete is something they aim to avoid.

There could be more to come too. While names like linebacker [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Malik Davis[/autotag] are already locked up, players such as offensive lineman [autotag]Stewart Reese[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Rick Wells[/autotag] are still available.

With that said, let’s take a look at each member of the 2021 Florida Gators football team that currently finds himself with an NFL team.

Jeremiah Moon passed over in 2022 NFL draft, signs as UDFA

LB Jeremiah Moon didn’t hear his name called during the 2022 NFL draft, but it didn’t take very long for him to find a new home once the spectacle concluded.

No NFL team took a chance on former Florida Gator [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] in the late rounds of the 2022 NFL draft, but the explosive edge defender turned linebacker is set to sign a contract with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report from PFF’s Doug Kyed.

Moon’s combine performance showed just how much athleticism is on the table with him, but there is a history of injuries that may have soured his draft stock. Three of Moon’s six seasons ended prematurely due to injury, but he proved himself in 2021 by stepping into a starting linebacker role for the Gators following [autotag]Ventrell Miller[/autotag]’s torn bicep. Moon finished as a finalist for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award and racked up 40 total tackles (20 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble.

At 6-foot-5-inches tall and 245 pounds, Moon possesses great size for an NFL linebacker and has the explosiveness to make an impact on a roster following a year or two of development. His 40.5-inch vertical and 11-foot-plus broad jump a the combine was considered elite by Math Bomb, but staying healthy will be the real key.

Although he wasn’t one of the three Gators drafted, Moon came out of the free-agent pool almost immediately following the draft’s conclusion. He was the fourth and final Gator expected to be selected behind Buffalo Bills first-rounder [autotag]Kaiir Elam[/autotag], Cincinnati Bengals third-rounder [autotag]Zachary Carter[/autotag] and Houston Texans fourth-rounder [autotag]Dameon Pierce[/autotag], but his name wasn’t a part of the late run of athletic defensive players taken in the final rounds.

Still, Moon will get his shot at the pros and wouldn’t be the first to make it from a practice squad to a gameday roster.

ESPN’s 7-round NFL mock draft would be a dream scenario for Broncos

This mock draft has OT Bernhard Raimann falling to the Broncos in the 2nd round, followed by ILB Chad Muma and OLB Nik Bonitto in the 3rd round.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid recently published a complete seven-round 2022 NFL mock draft (subscription required for link), including all eight picks for the Denver Broncos.

With their first pick in Reid’s mock, the Broncos select Central Michigan offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann at No. 64 overall. This would be a dream scenario for Denver because Raimann falling to the bottom of the second round would be a surprise.

The Broncos get another gem in the third round when Wyoming linebacker Chad Muma falls to them at No. 75. Denver landing Raimann and Muma without having to make any trades would be a great start to the draft.

After that, the Broncos land Oklahoma edge defender Nik Bonitto, which would represent another smart value selection at No. 96 overall.

To finish out the draft, Denver selects Fayetteville State cornerback Joshua Williams (No. 115), BYU running back Tyler Allgeier (No. 116), Tennessee defensive back Alontae Taylor (No. 145), Florida offensive tackle Jean Delance (No. 206) and Iowa safety Dane Belton (No. 232).

This would be a fantastic draft for the Broncos as it would fill the biggest needs of OT, ILB, OLB, RB and CB with excellent candidates.

The first five picks alone would make this mock an A+ class. To view the complete seven-round mock draft, visit ESPN (subscription required).

Report: Chargers hosting pair of prospects for top-30 visits

The Chargers are bringing in a defensive tackle and safety for top-30 visits ahead of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Chargers are set to host Missouri State defensive tackle Eric Johnson and Virginia safety Joey Blount for top-30 visits, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo and The Athletic’s Greg Auman.

In addition, Los Angeles already brought in Florida offensive tackle Jean Delance for a visit, per Guilty As Charged’s Maddie Schmidt.

NFL teams can host up to 30 prospects at their facilities prior to the draft, where they are taken through final interviews, meetings, and physicals.

Johnson posted 43 tackles (19 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, five quarterback hits, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, three pass breakups, and three blocked field goal kicks during 12 starts in 2021.

Johnson participated in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, where his dominant performance raised the eyebrows of evaluators to the point where he was invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

There, the 6-foot-4 and 299 pounder with 34 1/4-inch arms stood out, winning with his length, power in his punch and explosiveness off the snap.

Blount finished his collegiate career with 306 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 9 interceptions. He had 87 tackles and 3 interceptions in his final season.

At his Pro Day, the playmaking safety ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds, bench pressed 225 pounds 20 times, and amassed a 38-inch vertical leap and 10’7″ broad jump.

Delance possesses the ideal measurables and resume for an NFL offensive lineman at 6-foot-5 and 303 pounds with over 36-inch arms coupled with 37 SEC starts under his belt, playing both tackle and guard.

Delance was a key member of Gator’s starting five, keeping rushers at bay with his athleticism and vine-like arms, all while paving the way in the run game, as they ranked No. 4 in the SEC in rushing offense in 2021.

2022 NFL draft prospects: Florida OT Jean Delance

The #49ers met with an offensive tackle from Florida during the East-West Shrine Bowl.

The 49ers could certainly look to bolster their offensive line depth with their bevy of mid-round picks in this year’s draft. One player that surfaced in reports from the East-West Shrine Bowl is Florida offensive tackle Jean Delance. He cited the 49ers as one of the teams he had a strong meeting with at the Shrine Bowl per Draft Wire’s Justin Melo.

Delance measured in at 6-4, 296 pounds, which isn’t great size for an NFL offensive tackle. He does bring good athleticism though which plays well in the 49ers’ run game.

He was a full-time starter for the Gators during his last three seasons. Delance started his final 37 games, including the last 24 of those at right tackle, although he also saw some time inside during his redshirt-sophomore season.

The 49ers took Jaylon Moore in the fifth round of last year’s draft in hopes of converting him to guard, but he wound up sticking as a swing tackle. The same happened with 2020 fifth-round pick Colton McKivitz. They need some help on the interior and players like Delance who are athletic enough to make that move should be on San Francisco’s radar in this year’s draft.

Jean Delance provides much-needed experience at right tackle

Offensive tackle Jean Delance drew the most ire from UF fans last season, but he still remains its most experienced player among the unit.

Name: Jean Delance

Number: 56

Position: Offensive Tackle

Class: Redshirt Junior

Height: 6’5″

Weight: 270 lbs

Hometown: Mesquite, Texas

High School: North Mesquite

Previous School: Texas

2020 Statistics:

Started all 12 games at right tackle

Overview:

Delance was the player that drew the most ire of Florida fans last season because of his lackluster performance at right tackle. But he is offensive line coach John Hevesy’s most experienced player as a redshirt senior.

He originally signed to play football for the Texas Longhorns out of high school where he played two games his freshman season for the Longhorn in 2016. Delance then entered the NCAA Transfer Portal and wound up with the Gators. He had to sit out the 2017 season due to transfer rules.

In his first season with Florida where he was eligible in 2018, he played in four games as a reserve offensive lineman. Delance became a starter in 2019 and started all 13 games. He also started all 12 games in 2020.

Despite his struggles at right tackle, Florida fans should expect him to start every game if he stays healthy because no other offensive linemen have pushed to take over his starting spot.

These eight Gators made the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl watchlist

Which of Florida’s seniors will wind up in the Reese’s Senior Bowl at the end of the year? Here are some to keep an eye on.

[mm-video type=video id=01fcydy141fccf3sp7pd playlist_id=01eqbz250mdknqvm5z player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fcydy141fccf3sp7pd/01fcydy141fccf3sp7pd-447be1fcc6ae78fbaf7755738a81e9bc.jpg]

Eight Florida football players made it onto the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watchlist: safety Trey Dean III, defensive lineman Zachary Carter, linebacker Ventrell Miller and Jeremiah Moon, tight end Kemore Gamble, running backs Dameon Pierce and Malik Davis, and offensive tackle Jean Delance.

Last year, Kadarius Toney, Trevon Grimes and Shawn Davis represented the Gators in the Senior Bowl. Toney and Davis were selected in the 2021 NFL draft along with quarterback Kyle Trask, who turned down an invite to the game due to injury. For NFL hopefuls, the final game of their collegiate careers can make a world of difference in terms of draft stock. The annual game is coached by personnel from two NFL teams typically and consists mostly of prospects for the NFL draft.

Carter, Gamble and Miller perhaps have the best chance of the eight to see some action in the game. Miller and Carter could have declared for the draft after last year but both decided to return. Carter has the benefit of returning to his natural edge position after filling in at tackle last year. Gamble is finally getting a crack at the starting tight end role after sitting behind Kyle Pitts and he’s ready to make the most of it.

The Senior Bowl will be played on Jan. 29 at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
