Steelers claim former Ravens LB Jeremiah Moon off waivers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have claimed outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon off waivers. The Baltimore Ravens waived Moon on Thursday to make room on the active roster for tight end Mark Andrews ahead of the AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.

After going undrafted out of Florida in 2022, Moon signed with the Ravens, where he spent his rookie season on the practice squad, and this season, he bounced back and forth from the practice squad to the active roster. Moon played in eight games for Baltimore this season, making 12 total tackles and forcing two fumbles in limited action.

Moon is set to become an exclusive rights free agent this offseason, meaning the Steelers will have to tender him to keep him on the roster, or else he will be free to sign with another team in free agency.

The Ravens just completed their second practice of the week before Sunday’s matchup against the Cardinals, and the team announced a roster moon.

Linebacker Jeremiah Moon was waived on Thursday and will be subject to the wire.

Moon has five tackles in four games this season, but Baltimore is banged up at the running back position, while wide receiver Tylan Wallace is set to return to the lineup.

Moon’s roster spot could go to Melvin Gordon, who has used up his allotment of practice squad elevations and would need to be signed to the active roster.

Ravens sign six players to reserve/future deals

The Ravens sign six players to future/reserve deals.

With the Baltimore Ravens losing to the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card round, their season came to an end.  Another year with plenty of potential ended too soon, especially without their best player in quarterback Lamar Jackson.

With the season ending, the team’s offseason roster moves have already begun. The Ravens have signed six players to reserve/future deals in wide receiver Shemar Bridges, defensive back Bopete Keyes, outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, defensive lineman Rayshad Nichols, guard John Simpson, and wide receiver Mike Thomas.

Bridges was a star in training game and preseason before being cut due to an injury.  He was signed back to the practice squad late in the season, but never made it to the active roster.  Defensive tackle Rayshad Nichols played in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the absence of Calais Campbell. Nichols recorded four tackles on 15 snaps in that game.

2022 Florida Football Season Preview: Outside Linebackers

The Gators have a decent amount of depth at outside linebacker, but it’s Brenton Cox Jr. who leads the group heading into the 2022 season.

After going over the defensive linemen on the team in detail, it’s time to talk about Florida’s outside linebackers room heading into 2022.

These are the edge rushers of the team that are expected to cause havoc opposite of [autotag]Princely Umanmielen[/autotag] at the strongside defensive end spot. [autotag]Brenton Cox Jr[/autotag]. leads the group and is returning for his third year at Florida.

The Gators are only losing two players at the position, [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] to graduation and [autotag]Khris Bogle[/autotag] to the transfer portal, and they added two freshmen in the most recent cycle. Florida still has plenty of depth on the edge, though. Cox should be good for 13 starts barring injury, and there’s a trio behind him that can do the job if he does need any rest.

Here’s a look at all eight outside linebackers/JACK/edge rushers on the 2022 Florida Gators football roster.

Florida football’s 2022 NFL draft and free agent tracker

Didn’t watch the draft or catch all of the undrafted free agent signings that relate to UF? Gators Wire has got you covered.

The 2022 NFL draft has come and gone and another crop of talent is headed to the pros from Gainesville. Three players heard their names called over as many days of the draft, but several more former Gators are finding deals as undrafted free agents.

There’s no guarantee that any of the recent signees make it on an opening day roster or even a practice squad for that matter, but it’s the opportunity most of these players have been working toward for most of their lives. Squandering this chance to fulfill the dream of being an NFL athlete is something they aim to avoid.

There could be more to come too. While names like linebacker [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Malik Davis[/autotag] are already locked up, players such as offensive lineman [autotag]Stewart Reese[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Rick Wells[/autotag] are still available.

With that said, let’s take a look at each member of the 2021 Florida Gators football team that currently finds himself with an NFL team.

Jeremiah Moon passed over in 2022 NFL draft, signs as UDFA

LB Jeremiah Moon didn’t hear his name called during the 2022 NFL draft, but it didn’t take very long for him to find a new home once the spectacle concluded.

No NFL team took a chance on former Florida Gator [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] in the late rounds of the 2022 NFL draft, but the explosive edge defender turned linebacker is set to sign a contract with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report from PFF’s Doug Kyed.

Moon’s combine performance showed just how much athleticism is on the table with him, but there is a history of injuries that may have soured his draft stock. Three of Moon’s six seasons ended prematurely due to injury, but he proved himself in 2021 by stepping into a starting linebacker role for the Gators following [autotag]Ventrell Miller[/autotag]’s torn bicep. Moon finished as a finalist for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award and racked up 40 total tackles (20 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble.

At 6-foot-5-inches tall and 245 pounds, Moon possesses great size for an NFL linebacker and has the explosiveness to make an impact on a roster following a year or two of development. His 40.5-inch vertical and 11-foot-plus broad jump a the combine was considered elite by Math Bomb, but staying healthy will be the real key.

Although he wasn’t one of the three Gators drafted, Moon came out of the free-agent pool almost immediately following the draft’s conclusion. He was the fourth and final Gator expected to be selected behind Buffalo Bills first-rounder [autotag]Kaiir Elam[/autotag], Cincinnati Bengals third-rounder [autotag]Zachary Carter[/autotag] and Houston Texans fourth-rounder [autotag]Dameon Pierce[/autotag], but his name wasn’t a part of the late run of athletic defensive players taken in the final rounds.

Still, Moon will get his shot at the pros and wouldn’t be the first to make it from a practice squad to a gameday roster.

NFL draft 2022 profile: Jeremiah Moon hoping to hear name called in late rounds

Jeremiah Moon is hopeful that six years at Florida and a strong combine performance is good enough to get drafted.

A strong combine performance should have [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] on a few boards when the 2022 NFL draft finally begins, and the explosive linebacker is hoping to hear his name called after spending six years at the University of Florida.

Moon turned heads with a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a broad jump that exceeded 11 feet in Indianapolis. Simply put, linebackers don’t get much more explosive than that and it’s the kind of talent teams are likely to take a chance on in the late rounds of the draft. There’s still plenty to develop from a non-physical standpoint but the tools are there.

It hasn’t always been easy for Moon at Florida. He dealt with injury in three of his six seasons as a Gator and changed positions frequently. In 2021, he stepped into a starting inside linebacker role for the Gators after the team lost [autotag]Ventrell Miller[/autotag]. He logged a career-high in tackles and forced a fumble against Georgia.

Moon’s chances of being drafted are up in the air, but he should sign as an undrafted free agent if things don’t go his way over the weekend. The 2022 NFL draft kicks off Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT, but Gator Nation will want to tune back in on Saturday at noon to possibly hear Moon’s name called.

Over a dozen players expected to participate in Florida Pro Day

Only four Gators were at the Combine, but Florida will have 16 NFL hopefuls at the team’s annual Pro Day on March 28.

On Monday, Florida announced that the football program’s annual Pro Day will be held on campus on March 28.

The Gators only had four players attend the NFL Combine earlier in the month, but 16 players will be in front of scouts to show off their skills. Some of the participants are returning for another season at UF, but the rest are hoping to make a name for themselves ahead of the NFL draft.

Headlining that group may be running back Malik Davis who had his best year in a Gators uniform in 2021. Dameon Pierce may get all the attention for being the physical phenom he is, but Davis was just as productive and underused as a senior.

Jean Delance is another name to look out for as a strong Pro Day could get his name called after already talking with teams throughout the cycle.

Zach Carter, Kaiir Elam and Jeremiah Moon all joined Pierce at the Combine, but plenty of players have improved their stock with a strong performance on their home turf. Elam, in particular, could use a strong outing after a bad season for the defense hurt his draft stock.

The Pro Day will be streamed live on SEC Network+.

The 16 players expected to participate include:

LB Lacedrick Brunson
DL Zachary Carter
K Jace Christmann
RB Malik Davis
OL Jean Delance
DB Kaiir Elam
LB Jeremiah Moon
DL Daquan Newkirk
RB Dameon Pierce
OL Stewart Reese
DB Nicolas Sutton
DL Tyrone Truesdell
DL Antonio Valentino
WR Rick Wells
DL Kyree Campbell *
