Hilarious viral video breaks down Javon Wims vs Gardner-Johnson fight

Former Georgia and Chicago Bears WR Javon Wims attacked Saints DB CJ Gardner-Johnson in a wild NFL fight on Sunday. Here’s why.

Former Georgia wide receiver Javon Wims, now of the Chicago Bears, provided the NFL world with the bizarre fights of the year.

In the third quarter of the Bears vs Saints game on Sunday, Wims surprised everybody when he went after New Orleans defensive back C. J. Gardner-Johnson, a former Florida Gator. Following a play that neither Wims or Gardner-Johnson were involved in, Wims ran up, pulled Gardner-Johnson’s mouthpiece out, punched him once, waited and then punched him again.

What made the fight even better was Gardner-Johnson’s reaction to the first blow. He absolutely just ate the first punch before taking another one. This led to an immediate ejection and a two-game suspension for Wims.

But other than it being Georgia-Florida week, what led to Wims losing his mind and going after Gardner-Johnson?

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Wims claims that Gardner-Johnson had spit on him. But based on the upcoming video, that does not seem factually correct. At the start of the second half, Gardner-Johnson actually ripped Wims’ mouthpiece out and chucked it down the field. Wims waited patiently for his chance to retaliate, and he did not let the sports world down.

Watch as the following video hilariously breaks down the fight.

What led to Javon Wims going off on CJ Gardner-Johnson?

Details have begun to emerge from the scuffle between former Georgia football WR Javon Wims and former Florida DB CJ Gardner-Johnson.

Details have begun to emerge from the Sunday afternoon brawl between former Georgia wide receiver Javon Wims (Bears) and former Florida defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson (Saints).

NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that Wims told Chicago team officials that Gardner-Johnson ripped out his mouthpiece and spit on him prior to his thrown punches.

Gardner-Johnson denied spitting on Wims but it was clear he ripped out his mouthpiece and exchanged some words.

This isn’t Gardner-Johnson’s first brawl this season.  Last month New Orleans’ star wide receiver Michael Thomas, who’s missed nearly the entire season due to nagging injuries, punched Gardner-Johnson during a practice.  Thomas was actually expected to return that week but was then suspended for a game because of the scrum.

It seems as though Gardner-Johnson is a bit of a pest that knows how to push a receivers buttons.

Wims has been suspended by the NFL for two games without pay for his retaliation.

NFL suspends Bears’ Javon Wims 2 games for wild punching flurry

The Bears’ Javon Wims is going to cool it for two games after his punching stunt Sunday.

The NFL wasted no time in handing down a penalty to the Chicago Bears’ Javon Wims for his wild, punching attack on the Saints’ Chauncey Gardner-Johnson on Sunday.

Wims went off and threw punches in bunches, failing to realize he was hitting an opponent in full pads and a helmet. The purpose of hitting someone in the helmet remains puzzling.

Gardner-Johnson denied spitting on an opponent:

Although cameras captured Gardner-Johnson ripping out Wims’ mouthpiece and jabbing a finger in the face of fellow Bears receiver Anthony Miller on previous plays, Gardner-Johnson insisted Monday that “I’m innocent.”

“It ain’t got nothing to do with me. If he’s acting out, that’s on him,” Gardner-Johnson said. “It wasn’t no incident. We won the game. I mean, everybody, it’s a lot of he said, he said. Ain’t nothing happened. Nobody got spit on.

“Shouldn’t be nowhere near the field of play when the game’s going on. So I ain’t answering no more questions about that.”

And the DB felt the need to get in the last word on Instagram:

“That man punch like a female” with a crying/laughing emoji.

Bears WR Javon Wims suspended two games for punching Saints DB

Punishment has been handed down to Bears WR Javon Wims after he punched Saints DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson twice on Sunday.

Punishment has been handed down to Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims following his ejection from Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Wims punched Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson twice — in the helmet — which instigated a melee on the field early in the third quarter.

Wims has been suspended for two games, the NFL announced on Monday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Wims will appeal his suspension.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy called Wims’ actions “completely unacceptable,” and it something that ended up costing his team early in the third quarter in Chicago’s 26-23 overtime loss to the Saints.

“One of Javon’s strengths is his character, who he is as a person,” Nagy said after the game. “He’s since apologized, but that’s not … You don’t have that. There’s no part of that in this game. … That’s not how we roll here.”

Wims is eligible to return to the Bears’ active roster on Nov. 17 following Chicago’s Week 10 match-up against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. That is, if he’s not released before then, which is certainly a possibility.

5 takeaways from Bears’ 26-23 OT loss to Saints

There was a lot to unpack from the Bears’ second straight loss, from the start to the finish. Here are our takeaways from Sunday’s loss.

The Chicago Bears’ 26-23 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints was a game filled with missed opportunities, egregious mistakes and yet another offensive performance that left much to be desired.

Despite leading 13-3 near the end of the first half, the Saints climbed back and scored 20 unanswered points to take a 23-13 lead. The Bears needed to find a way to stay in the game and while they eventually forced overtime, they couldn’t rely on yet another defensive stop.

The loss wasn’t surprising, considering Saints head coach Sean Payton has now won six-straight contests between the two teams. But it was the way they lost that stood out. The Bears blew a big lead and had the chance to go up by 14 points near the half. They then turtled in the third quarter, totaling just 13 yards and gave momentum back to the Saints. It was a dogfight just to tie the game thanks to some key fourth-down conversions.

There was a lot to unpack from this game, from the start to the finish. Here are my takeaways from Sunday’s loss.

Video shows what may have led Bears’ Javon Wims to sucker punch Saints’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Could this have sparked it?

What exactly was it that led to Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims to sucker punch New Orleans Saints cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Sunday, leading to Wims being ejected?

There is a claim from Wims — per the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero — to Saints officials that Gardner-Johnson spit on him.

While that’s being sorted out, there is the other claim from Wims that Gardner-Johnson ripped out the receiver’s mouthpiece, and that could be true if we follow what someone on Twitter broke down.

@EvanSaacks looked back at the game and noticed the mouthguard in question getting ripped out, and that it sat on the field before being tossed to the sideline. Wims, as Saacks noted, waited 11 actual minutes to get back at Gardner-Johnson.

No spit to be seen in that series of videos, but we’ll see if there’s more evidence uncovered at some point. Meanwhile, Jomboy — known for all the MLB videos — weighed in with a similar theory that it was all about the ripped mouthguard (WARNING: some NSFW language ahead).

Bears HC Matt Nagy says Javon Wims’ punches were ‘completely unacceptable’

When things aren’t going your way, it’s easy to lose your cool. What’s more difficult is learning to control yourself despite the frustrations.

That’s something Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims let get away from him in an ugly display of retaliation during Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Wims was ejected after throwing two punches at Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson during the third quarter, which ignited a brawl between the two that soon had teammates jumping in before they were separated.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy called Wims’ actions “completely unacceptable,” and it felt like that was the moment where the game started to get away from the Bears, who lost 26-23 in overtime.

“One of Javon’s strengths is his character, who he is as a person,” Nagy said. “He’s since apologized, but that’s not … You don’t have that. There’s no part of that in this game. … That’s not how we roll here.”

A broadcast replay showed Gardner-Johnson getting in receiver Anthony Miller’s face and putting a finger in his face mask. Wims then walked up to Gardner-Johnson and punched him in the helmet before throwing another punch.

Gardner-Johnson is also the same player that notoriously mocked running back Tarik Cohen’s height in last year’s meeting, and the guy is no saint — in team name only.

Still, Wims can’t lose his cool like he did against Gardner-Johnson, an incident that really bothered Nagy throughout his postgame press conference.

“When you have somebody throwing punches, when you have the things that are going on right now with us and the offense and just trying to get things going … “ Nagy said. “Guys are fighting. They’re sticking together. But then you have that happen. It takes away everything that you work hard to get to and fight for. And what bothers me is we’ve got a lot of good guys that are doing things the right way — and then it just takes it away.”

Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks also addressed the incident, where he discussed the importance of not letting that emotion get to you.

“I think that I’ve lost my cool before, ya know?” he said. “It’s part of the game. The elite, and if you want to be elite, you have to be able to control some of those moments. You have to be able to put whatever emotion you’ve got going on and put it in a pocket. Because your team needs more.

“And knowing the character of Javon, I know that he doesn’t want to have a situation that might go sour. With a lot of respect for him, I understand that things happen and we’ll move forward.”

While there hasn’t been any word, the expectation is that Wims will be fined and possibly suspended for his actions.

Twitter reacts to Javon Wims sucker punching C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Twitter reacted after Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims was ejected for sucker punching New Orleans Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

New Orleans Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was the victim of a surprising double-tap by Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims, who approached Gardner-Johnson after a mundane play before sucker punching his opponent. It caused a brawl between Gardner-Johnson’s Saints teammates and the Bears offense and led to Wims being ejected from the remainder of the game.

It was very strange, to say the least. The incident sent social media into an uproar, with fans and former players on Twitter expressing confusion at what exactly just happened. Most of the befuddlement was understandable: why would Wims choose to punch a football helmet, twice?

Georgia-Florida week: Former UGA WR ejected for punching former Gator

Georgia-Florida week: Former Georgia football WR Javon Wims has been ejected from the Saints-Bears game after punching a former Florida DB.

I simply couldn’t picture a more fitting start to Georgia-Florida week than this.

A scrum broke out between former Georgia wide receiver Javon Wims and former Florida defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson in the Saints vs Bears game on Sunday afternoon.

Gardner-Johnson was shown putting his finger inside the face mask of Chicago’s wide receiver Anthony Miller which then incited Wims to retaliate.

After the finger poke, Wims gave Gardner-Johnson a subtle tap from behind him and then rung his bell with two very powerful punches before being separated.

WATCH:

Wims was immediately ejected from the game and will likely be fined and possibly suspended.

It was an undisciplined move on Wims’ part but man nothing gets you going like a little Georgia-Florida brawl.  Saturday’s matchup between the No. 8 Gators and No. 5 Bulldogs should be one for the books.

Bears WR Javon Wims ejected after punching Saints DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

The Bears have melted down in the second half, which was capped by WR Javon Wims punching a Saints defensive back.

After a solid first-half start, the Chicago Bears have absolutely melted down in the second half against the New Orleans Saints.

It was at its ugliest on Chicago’s first drive of the second half when wide receiver Javon Wims walked up to Saints defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and punched him twice, and he was soon ejected.

A broadcast replay showed that Gardner-Johnson getting in other Bears receiver Anthony Miller’s face and putting a finger in his face mask. Wims then walked up to Gardner-Johnson and punched him in the helmet before throwing another punch before other players joined and were pulled apart.

Wims was escorted to the locker room after he was ejected. Wims will likely face a fine and suspension for his actions.
