Texas commit Arch Manning is recruiting program-changing players

The Manning family is pushing to bring Anthony Hill to Texas.

Arch Manning is pushing hard to build a championship roster at the University of Texas.

Five-star linebacker Anthony Hill appears to be one of Arch Manning’s primary targets. Hill’s recruitment to Texas seems to be a family effort by the Manning family.

Hill would figure to be one of the cornerstone players for Texas in the 2023 class. On the defensive side, Texas is pushing for a few more highly coveted recruits. Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas placed another prediction in favor of Texas for four-star cornerback Malik Muhammad.

Texas is in the hunt for a major potential secondary haul that at the top end could include Muhammad, Jordan Matthews, and Javien Toviano. The trio would be a lethal combination to add to five-star safety commit Derek Williams Jr.

The back end of the 2023 defensive class could be taking shape soon. If Texas can bring in more talent on the defensive line, they have the foundation of a strong defense heading into the SEC.

Texas A&M Football Recruiting Profile: 2023 CB, Javien Toviano

Javien Toviano has been steadily rising up the recruiting ranks every month, and currently sits as a Top-50 player in the country, and a Top-10 player in Texas, according to 247Sports. Entering his senior season at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, Toviano is a two-way player at the running back position on offense, and cornerback in the secondary on defense, as returning kick-offs on special teams.

Toviano came on the scene during his 2020 sophomore season, producing 45 carries for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns on offense, 41 total tackles, and 11 pass deflections on defense, and was named Texas District 8-6A Defensive Newcomer of the Year. His stats increased on offense during his 2021 junior season, recording 41 carries for 415 yards and 8 touchdowns, with an astounding average of 10.1 yards per carry, 26 total tackles and 4 pass deflections, and 1 interception on defense, while being selected Texas 8-6A first-team all-district at seasons end.

As a prospect, Javien Toviano has the size at 6-0, 185lbs, and length (reported 77-inch wingspan) to potentially make the switch to safety on defense depending on where he goes.

When evaluating Toviano, looking at his athletic traits in accordance with his time at the defensive back position is the best way to predict his transition to the college level, starting with his general athleticism. He displays quick feet and transitions well in coverage while showing an impressive backpedal showing great body control while keeping his body square, and displays great potential as a press coverage defender, using his eyes to emulate his defender step by step, while consistently showing good restraint and an instinctual understanding of route concepts.

In off/zone coverage, Toviano adequately reads the QB’s eyes, finds his spots, and stays patient without biting on routes. Overall, Toviano has all the desirable traits needed in order to succeed at the next level and beyond, with the ability to play either cornerback or safety at the college of his choosing.

Javien Toviano plays football for James Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. Could he be the next five-star defensive back to commit to Georgia?

The five-star defensive back received a scholarship offer from Georgia in late February 2022. Toviano has taken recent visits to Texas A&M and Baylor.

Tovania plans on narrowing his list shortly, he told TexasFootball.com.

“I would expect that toward the end of spring,” Toviano said. “Just to narrow it down to a good eight or six, so we can get that out.”

Where 2023 Texas targets land in 247Sports’ updated recruiting rankings

Texas targets are all over the updated Top247 rankings.

After concluding the 2022 cycle with the No. 5 class in the country, Steve Sarkisian and his staff are hoping to keep the momentum rolling into 2023. Continue reading “Where 2023 Texas targets land in 247Sports’ updated recruiting rankings”

Texas Football: Five-star CB Javien Toviano expected to visit in April

The Longhorns will be hosting one of the nation’s best players soon.

The process of building up the secondary of the future is in full swing for Texas.

The Longhorns have been roughly hit or miss when it comes to landing top talent in the secondary. In Texas’ 2018 class, five of the six top recruits in the class were defensive backs. There has also been times where Texas has swung and missed on players like Georgia’s Keele Ringo and more recently Denver Harris who went to Texas A&M.

On the bright side, Texas was able to flip four-star defensive back Terrance Brooks from Ohio State and four-star Jaylon Guilbeau from TCU. They aren’t stopping there as the Longhorns are pursuing five-star cornerback Javien Toviano from the 2023 class, and recently received some positive news.

According to Horns247’s Steve Wiltfong, Toviano is planning to take a visit to Austin on April 2.

Toviano is ranked as the No. 28 overall player in the country for the 2023 cycle and the No. 4 player in the state of Texas according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Texas Football: Wish list of prospects for the 2023 recruiting class

Six players that Texas needs to get into the fold in the 2023 cycle.

Although the 2022 class is not quite over with, it is never too early to look ahead.

Texas currently has a top five class in the country for the 2022 cycle which is remarkable given the disappointing season the Horns had. But if Steve Sarkisian is going to get the program “back” to national championship-contending level, he must stack multiple elite classes on top of each other.

The Longhorns have already gained interest from some of the biggest names in the class of 2023 such as Arch Manning, Rueben Owens and Javien Toviano.

If Texas wants to sign another top level class at this time next year the product has to improve on the field. A 5-7 record is much more forgivable in season one compared to season two. Recruits will want to see Steve Sarkisian’s vision is working and the best way to do that is winning more games.

It will not take a Big 12 championship and a college football playoff birth to prove the program is going in the right direction. If Texas wins just eight or nine games in 2022 recruiting momentum will create itself.

If Sarkisian could put together a Christmas wish list for 2023 prospects, here are some of the players that would definitely make the cut:
