Giants’ Joe Schoen will attend Georgia Pro Day

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen will attend Georgia’s Pro Day with a particular eye on RB James Cook.

The New York Giants have had a close association with the program down at the University of Georgia the past few seasons and currently have six players (pre-free agency) on their roster: Andrew Thomas, Lorenzo Carter, Tae Crowder, Jake Fromm, Azeez Ojulari and J.R. Reed.

On Wednesday, they will get a look at the latest crop of Bulldogs headed towards the NFL when Georgia holds their pro day down in Athens.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen will be among those in attendance.

The Bulldogs have another class of great prospects for NFL teams to choose from. Some names to watch: defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt, edge rusher Travon Walker, wide receiver George Pickens, linebackers Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker and Channing Tindall along with running backs Zamir White and James Cook, who the Giants will be keeping an eye on.

There are more prospects to keep an eye on such as defensive back Derion Kendrick and interior offensive linemen Jamaree Salyer and Justin Shaffer.

2022 NFL draft: 4-round Saints mock draft with finalized draft order

2022 NFL draft: 4-round Saints mock draft with finalized draft order and compensatory picks, via @DillySanders:

We have now learned that the New Orleans Saints will be awarded two compensatory third round selections in the 2022 NFL draft. They will be receiving the 98th overall pick for losing Trey Hendrickson to the Cincinnati Bengals as well as the 101st selection for Terry Fontenot’s departure to the Atlanta Falcons. That gives New Orleans five picks in the first four rounds, four of them inside the top 101.

Let’s take a look at what a four-round Saints mock draft would look like up to this point in what has a fairly quiet free agency period for the team, in terms of official moves. There are some assumptions to be made about how the rest of free agency plays out over the next couple of days, and I’m working through this thinking that the Saints will sign a quarterback, a wide receiver, and a safety before the draft. That’s going to impact our draft needs:

2022 NFL All-Combine team littered with Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia placed four players on the All-Combine team plus had three guys noted as honorable mentions.

No school had more players at the 2022 NFL combine last week than the Georgia Bulldogs, who sent 14 guys from their national championship winning team to Indianapolis for the pre-draft workout. Georgia dominated; players turned heads in almost every category. Big days from a number of players showed how special the 2021-22 UGA football team really was.

NFL.com compiled a list of the top standouts at each position from the combine and created an All-Combine team. That team featured four Georgia Bulldogs, plus one ex-Georgia player in Jermaine Johnson. Additionally, three UGA players were noted as honorable mentions.

Linebacker Nakobe Dean did not partake in drills at the event, but it’s almost certain he would have been included on this list in some fashion had he did. Dean is an expected first round pick in next month’s draft.

See which former Bulldogs were mentioned as members of the team below, plus which were included as honorable mentions.

Epic James Cook response when asked about joining brother Dalvin

Do the Vikings need two Cooks in the kitchen?

What would an offensive backfield look like for the Minnesota Vikings with both Dalvin Cook and his younger brother, running back prospect James Cook?

It’s cool to dream about the Cook brothers terrorizing opponents and handing out headaches on the regular to defensive coordinators. When asked about the possibility of joining Dalvin in Minnesota, James delivered the most grounded answer for a soon-to-be NFL rookie.

“That’d be a plus, but they already have a guy,” James said at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The thought of playing with his brother is obviously intriguing to James, but he’s also looking for an opportunity to carve out his own role on a team. Dalvin, a three-time Pro Bowler, is obviously locked in as the lead back for the Vikings.

Granted, James could be an interesting option if he slips into the later rounds on the draft board, especially with backup Alexander Mattison’s contract coming due in 2023.

But it would still be a long-shot possibility considering all of the other areas of need for the Vikings, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. They aren’t in any rush to burn a draft pick on another running back.

So there’s a greater likelihood of the Cook brothers seeing each other on an NFL field in different jerseys at some point.

“We going to get after it,” James said, when asked about playing opposite of Dalvin. “If I’m on the other side, I know he’s going to try to beat me, too, by running all over [my team], so I’m going to try to do the same.”

James Cook clocks impressive 40-yard dash time

Georgia Bulldogs running back James Cook ran a faster 40-yard dash at the NFL combine than his brother Dalvin Cook.

Georgia Bulldogs running back James Cook boosted his NFL draft stock with an impressive 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine. Cook additionally looked smooth throughout drills as a receiver. He is considered one of the top receiving backs in the 2022 NFL draft.

Cook finished with the eighth best official 40-yard dash time among running backs at 4.42. In fact, James Cook bested his brother, Dalvin Cook, in the event. Dalvin Cook was a second-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFL draft. Dalvin Cook ran a 4.49 40-yard dash in the 2017 NFL combine.

James Cook and Dalvin Cook run side by side in the NFL’s Simulcam. James Cook’s official time (4.42) ended up being faster than his unofficial time (4.50).

James Cook finished his Georgia career with 1,012 total yards and 11 total touchdowns and a national championship. He was huge for the Bulldogs throughout the College Football Playoff and showed his versatility against Michigan. He topped 100 receiving yards against the Wolverines, who had no answer for him.

James Cook has certainly made a name for himself. It is fun to see a sibling rivalry. James Cook will hope to have an impactful NFL career like Dalvin. All signs point in that direction right now.

James Cook showed off his hands and smooth route running in receiving drills:

11 Georgia Bulldogs make PFF’s top-150 prospects for 2022 NFL draft

ELEVEN Georgia players make PFF’s top-150.

Georgia set a school record in the 2021 NFL draft when it had nine players selected. This year, Georgia is looking to shatter that number with as many as 15 players.

PFF recently released its big board of the top-150 prospects for the upcoming 2022 NFL draft, and the list included 11 Georgia Bulldogs, including nine in the top 100.

In a recent mock draft from ESPN’s Todd McShay, four Bulldog defenders were selected in the first round. If this happens, it will be just the third time one school produced four defensive first round picks, joining Miami in 2004 and Florida State in 2006.

Here’s a look at the 11 Georgia Bulldogs who made PFF’s top-150.

Potential Dolphins draft prospects withdraw from Senior Bowl

They’ll have to wait to get a closer look at these guys.

While the Miami Dolphins and the rest of the league are looking to get a look at some of the NFL draft’s top prospects at the Senior Bowl, three expected participants have withdrawn from the event.

Potential early picks Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd, Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson, and Georgia running back James Cook will not take part in this year’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

Lloyd is considered the best prospect of the three, with most draft experts predicting him to go in the top 20. In his four seasons with Utah, he recorded 256 tackles, 15.5 sacks, and five interceptions. His ability to tackle and cover makes him an interesting target for Miami who could be looking for help at the position.

Dotson has been mocked to the Dolphins a few times during this early part of the pre-draft process. At 5-foot-11, he’s not the big outside target that DeVante Parker is, but he makes up for it with his route-running that allows him to create separation quickly.

Cook, the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, played four years at Georgia, recording 1,503 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 6.5 yards per carry. He also has shown some ability to assist in the receiving game. Cook isn’t expected to be taken in the first, but the following two rounds should be his sweet spot.

With the Dolphins having the No. 29 overall pick in the first round as well as a second and third-round pick, all three players should be on Miami’s radar for selection. They’ll just have to wait to get a closer look at them.
