Will DK Metcalf play vs Bills this week? Latest injury update for Seahawks WR

Will DK Metcalf play vs Bills this week? Latest injury update for Seahawks WR

The Seattle Seahawks secured a 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday to snap their three-game losing streak, but it may have come at a bit of a cost. Star wide receiver DK Metcalf, after a phenomenal performance which saw him haul in four passes for 99 yards and a touchdown, left the game early with an apparent knee injury.

When asked about it postgame, head coach Mike Macdonald seemed optimistic about Metcalf’s condition, but would know more on Monday. Well, Monday is here, and now we know more. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Metcalf is dealing with a Grade 1 MCL sprain, and as such, he is considered “week-to-week” for his availability.

For those who are unfamiliar with how the grading system for MCL’s work, a Grade 1 sprain means some tenderness and minor pain. For reference, linebacker Uchenna Nwosu suffered a sprained MCL in the preseason finale, which kept him out until Week 5, had a Grade 2 sprain.

The Seahawks have an impending showdown with the Buffalo Bills this coming weekend, and at this time, we do not know if he will play or not. Obviously, this is not a game Seattle would want to be without Metcalf, or the following week against the Los Angeles Rams. However, in Week 10 the team will have their bye.

If Metcalf is to miss some time, the silver lining is the Seahawks are deep at wide receiver. Expect Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett to have increased roles in an offense without No. 14 in the lineup, as well as getting tight ends Noah Fant and AJ Barner more involved.

Of course, Seahawks Wire will have you covered for all injury related news for Metcalf this week and beyond.

Watch Jake Bobo score TD in Seahawks royal blue throwbacks

Watch Jake Bobo score TD in Seahawks royal blue throwbacks

Seattle Seahawks fans are excited to watch their squad don their royal blue throwback uniform in Sunday’s Week 1 contest against the Denver Broncos. Bias aside, it’s arguably the best jersey combination in the entire National Football League. What a way to celebrate the 2024 campaign kickoff!

The Seahawks’ social media team is equally as excited. The announcement was followed up by a social clip of sophomore wide receiver Jake Bobo scoring the first touchdown in the lovely royal blues. Bobo found the end zone after going in motion and taking the handoff from quarterback Geno Smith.

The 12th Man will provide a raucous atmosphere at Lumen Field on Sunday. Rocking the royal blues versus Denver is particularly fitting because the Broncos were Seattle’s former AFC West rival from 1977-2001. This will also mark the second time in the previous three years the Seahawks will open the NFL season against the Broncos while wearing an alternate uniform. In 2022, Seattle hosted Denver on Monday Night Football while wearing their all Action Green uniform.

The Seahawks are slated to wear their throwback uniform for a second time against their NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football in Week 6. That impending showdown will be old school versus old school, with the 49ers planning to wear their all-white throwback uniforms.

The Seahawks went 1-1 in 2023 in two games rocking the throwbacks. Seattle defeated the Cleveland Browns in their Week 8 showdown, outlasting them 24-20. Unfortunately, Seattle fell 41-35 to the Dallas Cowboys in their second and final throwback outing. The Seahawks will attempt to begin the 2024 regular-season campaign on the appropriate foot with a victory over the Broncos.

Seahawks WR Jake Bobo embarrasses Titans CB Roger McCreary during one-v-one rep

Seahawks WR Jake Bobo embarrasses Titans CB Roger McCreary during one-v-one rep

The Seattle Seahawks were in Nashville for their first of two padded joint practices with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday morning. The second session will occur on Thursday, leading up to Saturday’s preseason game versus the Titans. One-versus-one reps are often the most exciting aspect of these practices, particularly those that feature wide receivers against cornerbacks.

Both defenses had productive days on Wednesday, but sophomore Seahawks wideout Jake Bobo claimed one of the more eye-opening wins for Ryan Grubb’s offense. Pictured below, Bobo had Titans nickel cornerback Roger McCreary looking the complete opposite way after hitting him with a move. Geno Smith completed the pass for a sizable gain.

This was a fairly notable rep because the Titans believe McCreary is developing into one of the better nickel cornerbacks in the league. Pro Football Focus assigned him a coverage grade of 72.2 and overall defensive grade of 71.3 for his play as a sophomore last season. Bobo’s route-running prowess doesn’t back down from high-end competition.

Bobo has had an outstanding summer. He’s undergone a flawless acclimation to Ryan Grubb’s new offense, which is going to make big-time passing plays down the field (if the offensive line can hold up in protection). Bobo’s performance throughout camp and the preseason thus far is confirming his role in the offense as the No. 4 receiver behind D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Watch: Seahawks WR Jake Bobo makes remarkable catch at practice

Watch: Seahawks WR Jake Bobo makes remarkable catch at practice

It is widely known the Seattle Seahawks boast one of the better wide receiver corps in the NFL. Of course, this group is headlined by the likes of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

However, there is another name in the mix known among the 12th Man. This of course is Jake Bobo, who went undrafted out of UCLA last year. Bobo became a cult classic in Seattle, and while his raw numbers may not be popping off the charts, his impact was felt on the Seahawks offense.

For all the chatter of JSN having a breakout sophomore season, perhaps he won’t be alone in this regard. During today’s practice – the first with pads – the defense reportedly “won” the day, but that didn’t stop Bobo from having easily the biggest highlight of camp so far.

If Bobo is able to translate this from practice to Sundays in the fall, he isn’t going to be a name only the 12’s know for much longer.

ESPN’s Field Yates proudly displays Jake Bobo jersey

ESPN’s Field Yates proudly displays Jake Bobo jersey

Last season the Seattle Seahawks fielded one of the most exciting rookie wide receivers in the NFL who became an instant fan favorite.

I am talking about undrafted rookie Jake Bobo, of course.

Jokes aside, Bobo became a surprise gem the Seahawks uncovered alongside fellow rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The former UCLA Bruin earned his way on the team and proved to be a reliable receiving option, and arguably a tad underutilized. Bobo quickly became a household name among the 12’s, and even some of the national media as well.

ESPN fantasy football and draft analyst Field Yates shared on his personal Twitter the news about Seattle’s announcement to wear the throwback jerseys against the 49ers in Week 6. Like nearly everyone, Yates is a fan of the iconic royal blue and silver look of the original Seahawks threads. But upon posting, the Seahawks’ official Twitter asked him an important question about the Bobo jersey in his possession, to which Yates gave a great response.

It is only fitting the Bobo jersey hanging would be a throwback. In Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns, the Seahawks debuted the return of their beloved throwbacks for the first time since the 2001 season. Seattle started strong, and the first points of the day came via Bobo who scored a rare rushing touchdown as a receiver.

The Seahawks were able to hold on for a 24-20 win over Cleveland, abd Bobo’s contributions directly added up to the victory.

Naturally, his jersey belongs next to the likes of some guy named Manning who wore No. 18 for Denver.

Fantasy football outlook: Seattle Seahawks wide receivers

Will there be a changing of the guard among Seattle’s receivers in 2024?

For the last five years, the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver corps has been the combination of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and little else in the way of a backup band. That scenario changed (somewhat) when the team used the 20th pick in the 2023 draft on Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who flashed big-play ability but was clearly the third wheel. With a new coaching staff and a different philosophy after an eternity with Pete Carroll, there is going to be more competition for targets this year than there has been for a long time in Seattle as everyone tries to lock down his spot in the offense.

Updated Seahawks WR depth chart after Laviska Shenault signing

The Seahawks have added to what was already the best wide receiver room in professional football.

The Seahawks have added to what was already the best wide receiver room in professional football. On Tuesday Seattle announced the signing of former Jaguars and Panthers receiver/kickoff returner Laviska Shenault Jr., bringing in another intriguing and versatile weapon for Ryan Grubb to employ in his first year as offensive coordinator.

Right now it’s tough to tell exactly what head coach Mike Macdonald has in mind for Year 1, but let’s see if we can guess what the team’s wide receiver depth chart looks like after adding Shenault.

  • DK Metcalf
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba
  • Tyler Lockett
  • Jake Bobo
  • Leviska Shenault
  • Dareke Young
  • Dee Eskridge
  • Cody White
  • Easop Winston Jr.

Shenault is undoubtedly a better athlete than Bobo, but he’s also more likely to make an impact on special teams, where the Seahawks have a dearth of options at kick returner. With DeeJay Dallas gone the only other kickoff returner from last season still on the team is Eskridge, who is far from a sure thing for obvious reasons.

Unless one of them gets injured, we expect the only receivers to see significant targets as Metcalf, Lockett, JSN and Bobo.

7 Seahawks players who could have bigger roles in 2024

That youth movement should accelerate under the next head coach, whoever that may be.

The Seattle Seahawks have one of the most-promising rosters around the NFL. Nearly half of the team’s players this season were either in their first or second year in the league and that youth movement should accelerate under the next head coach, whoever that may be. Thanks to two strong draft classes in a row, the kids look particularly alright – and should only continue to get better going forward.

Let’s take a look at seven different players who may see bigger roles in 2024.

8 grades for Seattle Seahawks rookies from the 2023 NFL season

Here’s how we graded out eight Seahawks rookies who saw significant playing time this season.

You can make a case for the Chargers, but the Seahawks are the hottest destination among the teams that had an NFL head coach opening in this hiring cycle. While they dont have a young top-five QB like Justin Herbert they do have a high-value veteran in Geno Smith and a roster that is loaded with young playmakers on both sides of the ball.

The team’s 2023 rookie class is more proof of that, as Seattle landed a superstar at cornerback, a potential Pro Bowler at wide receiver and a couple other strong depth pieces, as well. Here’s how we graded out eight Seahawks rookies who saw significant playing time this season.

8 individual honors for the 2023 Seattle Seahawks after 8 games

Here are eight players who have been integral to their success so far this season and deserve some individual recognition.

The Seattle Seahawks hold a 5-3 record going into Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. That puts them roughly on pace for the 11-6 finish that we predicted before the regular season began. However, Seattle is a couple weeks away from entering the most-brutal part of the schedule – a four-game stretch that includes two games against the San Francisco 49ers, one against the Dallas Cowboys and another against the Philadelphia Eagles. All three teams are currently in the top 10 in our power rankings.

Before they face that murderer’s row of opponents, the Seahawks will have to get past two familiar conference foes: first Washington, followed by the Los Angeles Rams, who embarrassed them in the second half of the season opener to the tune of a 30-13 loss. In other words, they can’t afford to look past their next two games and have to stay focused on the task at hand.

Doing so will require leadership and continued strong efforts from a few key players around the roster. Here are eight players who have been integral to their success so far this season and deserve some individual recognition.
