The Kentucky football season is Jager Burton (62) days away

Guard Jager Burton is expected to be a top tier guard in the SEC in 2024.

The Kentucky football team is set to have one of the most experienced offensive lines in the country in 2024. The expected starters have well over 100 starts between them, and that should help ease the debut of quarterback Brock Vandagriff and new set of running backs. One of the veteran starters is guard Jager Burton.

Burton was a tremendous recruiting win for Mark Stoops and his staff. He was a four-star player, and was ranked as one of the top 100 recruits overall by 247sports. They also had him as the number three interior offensive lineman.

After a redshirt season in 2021, Burton started all 13 games at left guard in 2022. Last year, he again started every game, this time at both center and right guard.

Going into his Junior season, Burton is expected to be one of the better guards in the SEC. He’s certain to be one of the leaders up front, and fans will be glad he’s a part of Big Blue Nation.

Ohio State 4-star OG target Jager Burton picks Kentucky

It wasn’t expected to go Ohio State’s way, but four-star offensive guard Jager Burton picked the hometown Kentucky Wildcats Sunday.

The writing was on the wall as of late, but there was still some holding out hope that 2021 four-star offensive guard prospect Jager Burton would find it in his heart to pick Ohio State.

In the end though, the 6-foot, 4-inch, 271-pounder from Lexington, Kentucky stayed with the hometown team and announced his decision to commit to the Wildcats. But again, not many in the OSU camp saw this one going the Buckeyes’ way anyhow. The staff was unable to get Burton to campus again for an attempt to sway the No. 8 offensive guard and No. 125 overall prospect in the class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Burton picked Kentucky over OSU, Oregon, Clemson, and Alabama.

So, OSU will now turn the page — if it hadn’t already — and will continue to mine for more talent that’s still out there to put the finishing touches on a 2021 class that’s still considered the top overall class in the country.

If you’re into these sorts of things for commits that choose elsewhere, here is Burton’s commitment video that he shared to Twitter.

As always, we wish Burton luck in his future endeavors, just not if he comes toe-to-toe with Ohio State in the future.

Ohio State offensive guard target Jager Burton sets decision date

Four-star 2021 offensive guard Jager Burton has announced a decision date of August 30. Could he choose Ohio State?

We continue to follow the up and down recruiting momentum with four-star 2021 offensive guard prospect Jager Burton. When we last saw peeked in on Burton, he had routinely gone back and forth on which school was his favorite, but he has kept Ohio State in the mix all along near the top.

However, Kentucky eventually seemed to have emerged as the favorite to land the Lexington native. Burton had maintained that he would not make a college decision until he could do some follow up visits with all five of his top schools, but the coronavirus pandemic put the kibosh on that.

Now, with no real certainty to when recruits can go on official visits in the future, it appears the No. 8 ranked offensive guard in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, is ready to pull the trigger. Burton announced a decision date of August 30 on his Twitter profile Thursday.

We’ll keep an eye on this, but it’s not looking very promising for Ohio State on this one. The Buckeyes have been the leader in the clubhouse with Burton before, but it looks like the inability to get him back to campus, and the pull of the hometown and home state Kentucky could be too much to overcome.

There’s still hope obviously, but if Burton does choose the Wildcats, he’ll do it over the Buckeyes, Oregon, Alabama, and Clemson.
