Five-star quarterback planning a trip to LSU, per report

Jadyn Davis is the top quarterback in 2024, and he was recently offered by LSU.

The Tigers may still have a lot of work left to do on the 2023 recruiting class, but it’s never too early for coach Brian Kelly to turn his attention to next year’s cycle.

LSU and Kelly are already putting in work to woo one of the top available prospects in that class, quarterback [autotag]Jadyn Davis[/autotag]. The Providence Day School (Charlotte, North Carolina) prospect is rated as a five-star recruit and considered the No. 1 passer and No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Davis picked up an offer from the Tigers on May 3, and he’s apparently planning a visit to Baton Rouge next month. His father, Jeremiah, told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong that Davis plans a trip to Clemson on June 1 and LSU that weekend.

“It’s LSU and they seem to have a good coaching staff that can develop players,” Jeremiah said of the Tigers. “I think Brian Kelly is going to bring some consistency to the school.”

LSU isn’t the only program vying for Davis’ services. He has offers from nearly every top program around the country, including Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. Landing him will not be easy, but it would be arguably the biggest recruiting win Kelly has had since arriving on the bayou.

Ohio State football recruiting: Dijon Johnson commits; Dylan Raiola, others visit

Highly ranked prospects and top-tier quarterbacks crowded Columbus for Ohio State’s spring game.

Ohio State football’s spring game served as more than an exhibition contest. There was massive recruitment activity on the sidelines, according to several outlets and social media.

Dozens of recruits, primarily from the 2023 and 2024 classes, visited Ohio State over the weekend for the Buckeyes’ spring game. The exact number wasn’t clear as of Sunday afternoon, with reports prior to the game varying from more than 30 (per Cleveland.com) to at least 50 (Eleven Warriors).

Regardless of unclarity over the exact number, the weekend paid immediate dividends and even secured a recruit before Easter even concluded. Four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson announced on Sunday that he has committed to Ohio State.

“I have always thought that could be the pick for me,” he said to 247Sports. “It just wasn’t an in the moment thing. It was always like my top school with it being my dream school.”

Johnson is ranked the No. 29 cornerback and No. 265 player in the country. The 6-foot-1 Wharton (Tampa, Fla.) CB chose Ohio State over 35 other offers, according to 247Sports.

Nation’s No. 1 QB showcases talent at Elite 11 Regional, updates Clemson interest

CARROLLTON, Ga. — The Clemson Insider was on hand at the Elite 11 Regional in Atlanta to check out some big-time quarterback prospects. Among them was Providence Day School (Charlotte, N.C.) five-star Jadyn Davis, who showcased his elite talent with his performance at Carrollton High School on Sunday.

Fresh off an unofficial visit to the University of Tennessee on Saturday, Davis showed why he’s the nation’s top-ranked sophomore. He was cool, calm and collected as he performed amongst some of the better quarterbacks in the country.

“I think I spun it pretty well,” Davis said. “I’m a perfectionist, so I always think I could get better. There’s a couple of throws that I definitely want back for sure. It’s always great learning from the great coaches they have here at the Elite 11, competing with a lot of top guys in my class (2024) and the class before in ’23. It was a lot of fun being back home in Georgia and throwing it around.”

In addition to reviewing his performance, Davis gave the latest on his recruitment and recapped his latest visit to Clemson, which took place on Saturday, March 12. It was his first time back on campus, since he was in attendance for Clemson’s 48-27 win over Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at Memorial Stadium.

“It was great,” Davis said, “just always talking to Coach (Brandon) Streeter. He didn’t leave my side one bit. I got to go there with my new high school head coach (Chad Grier). Me and D.J. (Uiagalelei) have a really good relationship, so seeing him again, just always building chemistry and connection with the guys and just building a relationship with the coaches.”

Davis had a pretty in-depth conversation with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney while he was back on campus. According to Davis, Swinney was just telling him about Clemson’s recruiting philosophy.

“I know they offered Sammy (Brown) in my class (2024), which is pretty rare, so that shows you how good of a player he is,” Davis said. “Just to come back for the summer, hang out and we’ll have some good news.”

Davis wouldn’t go as far to say that he’s expecting an offer once he’s back on campus. Rather, he’s learned to temper his expectations when it comes to recruiting. Though, he made sure to reiterate that he’s really interested in Clemson and knows that Swinney and staff are very interested in me.

“I’m not expecting anything,” he said. “I know I always gotta work for it. It would mean a lot. They’ve been at the top production-wise for the last couple of years with Deshaun (Watson), Trevor (Lawrence) and with D.J., going back to Tajh Boyd. They’re definitely a school that everybody looks at Clemson, it’s always been Clemson besides this past year, the national championship(s), and the College Football Playoff. Clemson’s tradition, how they treat everybody up there, it’s always a family environment. I like it a lot.”

Davis also touched on his relationship with Swinney and Clemson’s offensive coordinator.

“Me and Coach Streeter are probably closer than Coach Swinney because we’ve had more conversations,” Davis said. “He remembers me in fifth grade coming to camp. So we always talk about that, joke about that. We have a great relationship.”

Davis imagines that he’ll be back at Clemson this summer and throw at camp. With that being said, where would he say things currently stand in his recruitment?

“They’re definitely starting to clear out,” he said. “I’m probably gonna have a top list by this summer and then probably commit towards the end of my junior year, before senior year. And if that’s not God’s plan, that’s just not his plan, but that’s probably my timeline right now.”

CARROLLTON, Ga. — The Clemson Insider was on hand at the Elite 11 Regional in Atlanta to check out some big-time quarterback prospects.

Among some of those targets were IMG Academy quarterback Jayden Bradford, Providence Day School quarterback Jadyn Davis and Briarwood Christian (AL) quarterback Christopher Vizzina.

The elite quarterback competition allowed for some of the nation’s top gunslingers from eighth-graders to rising seniors to compete and improve their skillsets with the help of renowned quarterback coaches. They were put through drills by the likes of Quincy Avery, who is Deshaun Watson’s personal quarterback’s coach, and former University of Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner.

Texas offers 2024 five-star QB Jadyn Davis

Davis is the top quarterback prospect in the class of 2024.

Texas is looking to get a jump on the class of 2024 as the Longhorns sent an offer to five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis this week.

Davis is rated the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country and No. 2 overall player in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports. He has already racked up an impressive offer list of over 30 teams, including the likes of Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia and many other premier programs.

247Sports recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins raved over Davis’ potential in his scouting report.

Solid pocket presence for his age, but athletic and creative enough to keep plays alive. Can move the chains with his legs. Doesn’t put himself in many risky situations. Peers consider him a leader in the huddle. Will need to develop some arm strength over the next few years, but already capable of making some high-level throws. Viewed by trusted quarterback trainers as a kid that’s well ahead of the curve. Should develop into one of the top passers in the 2024 cycle with the right coaching and mindset.

Steve Sarkisian is not scared to go after the most talented quarterbacks in the country. Texas is all-in on the pursuit of top 2023 prospect Arch Manning.

Five-star QB ‘likes Clemson a lot’

FORT MILL, S.C. — The Clemson Insider went down to a South Carolina high school to see one of the best quarterback prospects in the Class of 2024.

TCI caught up with Catawba Ridge’s Jadyn Davis before he headed off to Nicholls State University (Thibodaux, La.) to camp at this year’s Manning Passing Academy. Davis recounted his summer, the visits he’s been able to take, his time at Clemson and what he’s been hearing on the recruitment front lately.

Davis was able to make his way back to Clemson this summer for Dabo Swinney Camp and got to see some familiar faces in the process.

“It was great,” he told TCI. “I have a close relationship with D.J Uiagalelei and Will Shipley, so it was great seeing my boys back again and meeting with Coach (Brandon) Streeter again.”

The last time Davis went to Swinney Camp was during his eighth grade year. Obviously, the pandemic prevented the in-state quarterback from making it down to Clemson last year, but he was happy to be back on the recruiting trail this summer.

“It was a great experience,” he said. “I loved seeing the campus, loved seeing the facilities and stuff like that. I like Clemson a lot.”

Where does his relationship with Uiagalelei stem from?

Davis actually met Clemson’s starting quarterback the last time he was on campus and the two gunslingers immediately hit it off. He then went out to the Steve Clarkson QB Retreat in California, where he even went out to eat with the Uiagalelei family, including Big Dave.

Davis considers Uiagalelei as a “big brother.”

Ironically enough, Clemson sees a lot of Uiagalelei in Davis.

“They say I compare a lot to how D.J. was coming in, our throwing motions, I guess, we are similar like that,” Davis said.

As for Shipley, Davis knows Clemson’s freshman running back as the two train in the same spot. Davis’ high school recently just scrimmaged against Shipley’s alma mater back on Tuesday night.

So, what has Davis heard from each of Uiagalelei and Shipley about Clemson?

“They love it up there,” Davis said. “They tell me they love Coach Swinney. Everybody keeps it real up there. It’s real family camaraderie. And obviously throwing to guys like Justyn Ross, that helps too. It’s a good time.”

Davis is aware of how Clemson goes about its business when it comes to recruiting. They’ve consistently reminded him how they are with the process. The Tigers take it a bit slower, which Davis said he’s totally fine with.

He likes how Clemson is upfront and honest, while also not promising him anything.

“That shows that they care more about you as a person than they do about football at the end of the day,” Davis said. “They’re building that relationship. Going to college is a 40-year decision, not a four-year decision. It shows me that they care about me as a person, not just what I can do for them on the field.”

Davis’ main point of contact at Clemson has obviously been Streeter.

Clemson’s quarterbacks coach has kept it real with Davis. He’s also given him some insight into what he saw Trevor Lawrence go through between his recruitment process and his time at Clemson.

“It’s great,” Davis said of his relationship with Streeter. “Sometimes we won’t even talk about recruiting. He just wants to know how I’m doing, how my day’s going and stuff like that. He gives me advice on recruiting, what to look for, what not to look for.”

That being said, what is Davis looking for in a school at the next level?

Being just 15 years old, Davis obviously has some time before he’ll sit down and make that fateful decision, but he’s already outlined some of the more important factors he’s searching for.

“My end goal is to reach the NFL one day, so develop me to get to the NFL,” he said. “And just a guy who knows football and knows how to develop quarterbacks. The development piece is a big piece for me. And an institution where I can get a great education. My mom has always been no books, no ball, at the end of the day. So, a place like that and a place that I can call home.”

Beyond his Hudl highlights, Clemson fans haven’t been able to see much of Davis. Talking with TCI, he did his best to describe his style of play and how he carries himself on the field.

“I definitely like throwing the ball,” Davis said. “I work in the pocket. I have the ability to escape if I need to with my legs. Just deciphering the defense, taking what they give me and throwing the ball around getting it to my playmakers, so they can make plays for me.”

There’s not one particular quarterback that Davis models his game after. He likes to take bits and pieces from everyone’s game, combine it and make them his own.

However, he does like Deshaun Watson a lot. One of Davis’ trainers happens to be Quincy Avery, who also trains the former Clemson quarterback. Speaking of the Tigers’ quarterbacks, Davis also likes to watch Lawrence and Uiagalelei.

Additionally, Davis has trained with UNC quarterback Sam Howell, who went to Indian Trail High School in North Carolina, which isn’t too far from Davis’s stomping grounds.

Davis is in no rush when it comes to his recruitment. At the end of the day, he’s just 15 years old.

Right now, he’s laser-focused on putting last season’s Upper State Championship loss in the past and leading Catawba Ridge to a State Championship this season.

Still, Clemson is making a great impression on the young quarterback already.

“I like it a lot,” Davis said. “You look at the quarterback tradition there with Tajh Boyd starting it off, then Watson, then Trevor, and DJ, that’s a pretty heavy-hitting quarterback class right there. Coach Streeter’s proven that he knows how to develop quarterbacks for the next level. I like Clemson a lot.”
