Breaking down five newcomers who could make an impact for Auburn in 2022

The top five newcomers who can make a serious impact this season.

There are five freshmen to keep an eye on this season. Two offensive players and three defensive players are at the very top of our list. All five were highly recruited out of high school and will more than likely be featured abundantly over the course of the spring.

Omari Kelly, Wide Receiver

Omari Kelly was regarded as a four-star WR by 247Sports. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, he has played against some of the best competition in the state. Within the past few months, the Tigers have lost wide receivers Kobe Hudson and Javarrius Johnson via the transfer portal. They also lost Demetris Robertson (graduated). The three ranked No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 respectively in receptions.

This makes Kelly’s impact that much larger for the Spring. At his high school, Kelly ran track and field. The Tigers could definitely use someone that has world-class speed. It will be interesting to see how Kelly develops over the Spring. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he were in the rotation for a starting role in the Fall.

Micah Riley-Ducker, Tight End

Micah Riley-Ducker is a 6’6 Tight End out of the state of Nebraska. 247Sports has him ranked as the No. 19 tight end in the class. Former Auburn TE JJ Pegues recently transferred to Ole Miss so that makes his impact just as large. His frame and skillset should definitely have him in the mix to earn playing time for the Fall.

Next, we check on the defensive players to watch

Auburn CB coach Zac Etheridge among nation’s top recruiters

Auburn had one of the top ones in the the ’22 cycle.

While the conversation surrounding the Bryan Harsin situation recently shifted to recruiting, he did have one of the top recruiters to aid in their top 20 class.

The Auburn staff did have one of the 25 best recruiters according to 247Sports top 25 list. Cornerback coach Zac Etheridge was in the mix with some of the heavy hitters in college recruiting.

He was credited with five four-star players in the 2022 recruiting cycle, which shows his influence and the ability to build relationships in a short time. Etheridge joined the Auburn staff following a stint in Houston to return to his alma mater.

What 247Sports Says…

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Etheridge aided in convincing five four-star talents to sign with Auburn this cycle, including three cornerbacks and in-state linebacker Robert Woodyard, the top player in Auburn’s haul.

Among the players he secured for the Auburn Tigers No. 18 recruiting class were Woodyard, JaDarian Rhym, Austin Ausberry, and Keionte Scott. That is an impressive haul on the defensive side of the ball. Especially traveling into Baton Rouge and taking Ausberry from LSU in their own backyard.

As Auburn looks to the 2023 recruiting cycle, Etheridge should be a key player in the cycle once again. The Tigers are in good hands with Etheridge, who once won a national championship on the plains.

Ranking Auburn football’s 2022 recruiting class by immediate impact

Here is Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class ranked by immediate impact.

Auburn had an absolutely incredible early signing day.

The Tigers jumped from near the bottom of the SEC’s recruiting rankings to fifth, and then from the mid-thirties nationally to No. 15. There were questions about whether or not Bryan Harsin and his staff could recruit. Obviously, the recruiting class isn’t finished, but the answer seems to be yes.

Auburn is bringing in several high-profile guys, most of whom should honestly see the field in some capacity in 2022, especially on the defensive side of the ball where Auburn needs to fill some holes.

Here is Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class ranked by immediate impact, from least to most.

Tracking every Auburn football committ on early signing day

Get to know the newest Auburn Tigers

As of right now, at 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, Auburn has the 14th best recruiting class in the country and seventh in the SEC.

Auburn has signed 17 players and has one more commit who will not sign in the early signing period. Also, top target Jeffrey M’ba will not be announcing where he signed until Dec. 19th.

Here is a look at every player Auburn has signed and the one commit who has yet to sign.

Four-star cornerback JaDarian Rhym signs with Auburn

This guy can be GREAT on The Plains.

JaDarian Rhym, Auburn’s highest-rated commit entering the day, has officially signed with Auburn.

Rhym, who committed to Auburn on Tuesday, is a physical corner who has an ideal frame (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) and athleticism to play corner in the SEC. With the departure of Roger McCreary after this season and the potential departures of Nehemiah Pritchett and Jaylin Simpson after the 2022 season, adding players that can see the field soon is critical.

Rhym is rated as the No. 21 corner and No. 168 overall recruit in the country in the 247Sports Composite. The Valdosta, Georgia native was also ranked as the 21st player in the state of Georgia.

Five most important visitors for the Iron Bowl

Auburn needs to impress these players

The Iron Bowl is almost here. And as they do every year, several elite prospects will be in attendance for the game.

The Auburn football program has been waiting for some momentum to come on the recruiting front. While it has picked up some movement over the season, it still puts Auburn in the bottom part of the SEC in recruiting for the 2022 class.

While every visitor is important, here are the five most important visitors for the game.

UGA offers Valdosta HS cornerback JaDarian Rhym

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to 2022 Valdosta High School cornerback JaDarian Rhym.

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to 2022 cornerback JaDarian Rhym. Rhym is a talented prospect who has received offers from some of UGA’s SEC East rivals: the Florida Gators, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Tennessee Volunteers.

Rhym is 6-1 and weighs 170 pounds. He plays football at Valdosta High School. Valdosta High School is home to some Georgia Bulldog greats including: Malcolm Mitchell and Buck Belue.

The 2022 corner was quite excited to receive an offer from Georgia:

Rhym isn’t afraid to come up in run defense. Perhaps his best trait is his ball skills. Rhym intercepted numerous passes during his sophomore season:

His ability to get off blocks and register key tackles for a loss is one of the many reasons why he’s already getting SEC attention. Rhym will look to add to his frame before playing major college football. His instincts are impressive.

He’ll be prospect to keep an eye on in the future. Kirby Smart and Georgia lack 2022 commitments at the moment, but have been offering a slew of 2022 prospects. Will Rhym choose Georgia or one of the Dawgs’ SEC East rivals?
