2023 ATH Jacobe Johnson down to five schools, commitment coming soon

Alabama listed in 2023 ATH Jacobe Johnson’s top five. He will announce his commitment on August 13.

Alabama has already hauled in one 2023 recruit from Oklahoma in four-star wide receiver Cole Adams. Adams. Another Oklahoma-based recruiting target for the Alabama coaching staff is Jacobe Johnson. On Wednesday, he announced that he was down to five schools and a commitment date of August 13.

Alabama is likely on the outside looking in for the native of Mustang, Oklahoma at this point in his recruiting. As it stands, Oklahoma has a sizable lead according to On3’s RPM. The Sooners are favored to land Johnson at 86.5% likelihood. The Crimson Tide is predicted as the second favorite to land him at 4.6%.

The two-sport athlete has taken four official visits so far. One of the visits that he took was to Alabama. It is looking like he will end up in Norman, but the Crimson Tide still has over a week to make up some ground in his recruitment. Wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins has been able to land commitments Malik Benson along with Cole Adams. Ideally, the Crimson Tide would like to bring in up to four wide receivers in the class.

The coaching staff has expressed interest in several different receivers in Jaren Hamilton and Michigan State commit Demetrius Bell. Johnson is a long shot at this point, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibility. We will have to wait and see what Johnson decides to do for his commitment.

Oklahoma receives projections for Jacobe Johnson, includes Sooners in top 5

The Oklahoma Sooners land inside the top 5 for 2023 four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson out of Mustang, Oklahoma.

One of the biggest dominos left to drop on the Oklahoma Sooners recruiting check list is 2023 four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson. Johnson, a top three player in the state of Oklahoma, has long been projected to land with the Sooners, but has patiently been working through his process this recruiting cycle.

Johnson is ranked inside the top 50 on the ESPN 300 list and is a top 100 prospect according to On3 Recruiting and the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s a top 10 athlete in the 2023 recruiting class. Johnson released his top five on Wednesday and included the Oklahoma Sooners, Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Stanford Cardinal.

Over the last week Parker Thune of OUInsider.com at 247Sports issued a crystal ball projection for the Oklahoma Sooners to land Jacobe Johnson. According to Thune, the Sooners plan to play the 6-foot-3 talent out of Mustang, Okla. at cornerback. All four crystal ball predictions from 247Sports favor the Oklahoma Sooners.

Shortly after releasing his top five Wednesday evening, the Sooners received another projection, this time from Rivals’ Michigan recruiting editor Zach Libby.

Johnson’s athletic profile could lend him to playing on either side of the football at the collegiate level and it looks like the Sooners will have another cornerback to add to their 2023 recruiting class that includes four-star cornerback Jasiah Wagoner.

Oklahoma misses out on in-state EDGE as four-star Bai Jobe commits to Michigan State

The Oklahoma Sooners had a loss on the recruiting trail as the state’s best player chose Michigan State over the Sooners and Alabama.

Oklahoma simply can’t win them all. As much as the Sooners may want to, they won’t get every major in-state recruit. That’s the case as the Sooners lose another in-state talent to an out-of-state school.

In this instance, 2023 four-star EDGE Bai Jobe committed to the Michigan State Spartans over the Sooners, Crimson Tide, and a few others.

Jobe, the number one player in the state of Oklahoma plays at Community Christian School in Norman, Okla. His proximity to Norman made it easier for the Sooners to recruit him but ultimately Jobe wanted to get away and spread his wings elsewhere. He becomes the highest-rated recruit in Michigan State’s class, according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him No. 64 overall and No. 9 at his position..

Oklahoma will rebound and land the No. 3 player in the state of Oklahoma, athlete Jacobe Johnson, a top 100 player nationally.

Projections overwhelmingly favor the Sooners here. Barring anything unforeseen, the Sooners will only bring two of the top ten players in the state out of the 2023 class. A number they’d likely like to increase as they begin to take aim at the 2024 class.

Adepoju Adebawore and Tausili Akana look like the most likely candidates to be added to the Sooners recruiting class next at the edge position, and as the dust settles on the Bai Jobe’s recruitment that’s where defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis will focus his efforts.

Oklahoma Sooners receive crystal ball projection from Oklahoma State 247Sports Insider

The Sooners received another projection in favor of landing one of the top players in the state of Oklahoma, four-star ATH Jacobe Johnson.

After several quiet months surrounding the recruitment of four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson, the Oklahoma Sooners received another crystal ball projection to land the Mustang, Oklah. product.

While the previous projections came from OUInsiders Parker Thune and Brandon Drumm, and 247Sports National Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong, this one comes from someone that covers the Oklahoma State Cowboys for GoPokes.com, Cody Nagel.

Nagel’s prediction is moderately confident that Oklahoma will land the athletic Jacobe Johnson. At this point, the Sooners own 100% of the Rivals‘ future casts, four crystal ball predictions from 247Sports, and On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Oklahoma an 86.3%.

It seems that the Oklahoma Sooners are closing in on a commitment for Johnson who also is considering Alabama and Michigan quite heavily as well. Brent Venables is no stranger to big-time recruiting battles, winning his fair share when he was the defensive coordinator at Clemson.

Nothing’s over until the player signs on the dotted line on National Signing Day, but the Sooners might have this commitment right where they want it.

Let’s take a look at some other stories involving the Tide, shall we?

Social media reactions to big OU recruiting week with Brent Venables Camp and ChampU BBQ

Social media reacts to the Oklahoma Sooners’ big week on the recruiting front with Brent Venables camp and the ChampU BBQ.

It was a big week in Norman for the Oklahoma Sooners who spent time hosting players of all ages for multiple camps, with the high school camp already reaping the reward with the commitment of four-star wide receiver Keyon Brown.

The biggest event of the week came in the ChampU BBQ, where the Sooners football program hosted players from the 2023 class, many for official visits. 2023 takes center stage for the next eight months as the Oklahoma Sooners attempt to lock in commitments through 2023’s national signing day next February.

Though he still has several official visits to attend, top 10 offensive line prospect [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag] was in Norman for his official visit with the Sooners. He’s received numerous projections to land with Oklahoma over the last couple of months.

As they look to “win Oklahoma,” the Sooners also had in four-star athlete [autotag]Jacobe Johnson[/autotag] out of Mustang. Johnson, the No. 2 player in the state according is projected to land with Oklahoma as well. Johnson and several other visitors shared thoughts on their time with Oklahoma with 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong.

[autotag]Adepoju Adebawore[/autotag], a four-star edge rusher, and top 20 player according to On3 Recruiting shared his thoughts with Chad Simmons on his time with the Sooners.

It was a great week for Oklahoma Football. They’ll have more official visits coming this week, but let’s take a look at some of the best social media reactions from recruits, parents, and coaches.

Oklahoma Sooners summer recruiting primer for the 2023 recruiting cycle

With the summer on the horizon, we took a look at the names to know as the Sooners look to make a push on the recruiting front for 2023.

Brent Venables and Co. are weeks removed from their first spring as a staff together. It was a successful one with no notable injuries and some standout performances across the board. All told, things went as well as they could’ve hoped considering the positive reviews from the media and recruits in attendance.

The spring game served as an eye-opener for recruits and gave the Oklahoma Sooners some significant momentum to ride as they head into the most crucial time of the year for recruiting. With spring ball done and the team going home to recharge before fall camp, the staff will be all in on recruiting. With that in mind, it’s time to map out the targets to watch as the 2023 class begins to materialize this summer.

LSU offers 4-star top-100 Oklahoma athlete

LSU is trying to woo Jacobe Johnson, who is also considering in-state Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

[autotag]Jacobe Johnson[/autotag] is a 6-foot-3, 170-pound athlete from Mustang, Oklahoma. He is a top-100 player in the rankings from ESPN and On3.

He is a two-sport athlete for the Mustang Broncos (yes, that is the name of the team). He plays football and basketball and holds Division I offers in both sports. Johnson played wide receiver early for the Broncos, but recently he has been more of a defensive back.

He could play either side of the ball at the next level: He has a good frame and great ball skills. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is going to have to pull off some recruiting magic to land Johnson though because he is from the heart of Oklahoma and is being recruited heavily by the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys as well as most of the teams in Texas.

LSU has the 35th-best recruiting class in the country for 2023 with only two commitments. Johnson would be a nice add to that list.

On3 national recruiting analyst predicts 4-star ATH Anthony White to Oklahoma

On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman submitted a prediction for 2023 four-star athlete Anthony White to the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to make headway in the 2023 recruiting cycle, targeting athletes that have been playmakers on both sides of the football. In the last 24 hours, the Sooners have received a 247Sports crystal ball for four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson and a prediction from On3 for three-star athlete Samuel Omosigho.

On3 Sports national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman also issued a prediction for four-star athlete Anthony White (On3+) to end up in Norman with the Sooners.

White, from Abernathy, Texas, is a two-way playmaker at cornerback and wide receiver. He displays excellent ball skills, winning 50-50 balls from either position. He’s an athletic player that’s able to make things happen with the ball in his hands.

As a corner in run defense, White does a nice job of engaging his blocker to string the run play wide before beating the block and making the play. He shows good route recognition and does a great job breaking on the ball. He plays the football and has the ability to come up with the pick.

At wide receiver, the four-star recruit is able to climb the ladder to high-point the football. His speed allows him to get behind the defense to make plays down the field. In open space, he’s dynamic with the football, using subtle movements to make would-be tacklers miss.

With less than a year to go until 2023’s national signing day, the Oklahoma Sooners are attacking the recruiting trail looking for dynamic playmakers on the outside. The Sooners haven’t officially offered White yet, but with a prediction coming in favor of Oklahoma from Spiegelman, it stands to reason an official offer is on the way.

Sooners land Crystal Ball projection for 4-star ATH Jacobe Johnson

The Oklahoma Sooners receive a Crystal Ball projection from Brandon Drumm of OUInsider at 247Sports for 2023 4-star athlete Jacobe Johnson.

Fresh off the heels of a massive recruiting weekend, the Oklahoma Sooners continue to build momentum as they piece together their 2023 recruiting class. One of the must-have names on their board is in-state star Jacobe Johnson out of Mustang, Oklahoma. Across the board, he’s viewed as a four-star athlete. The Sooners might be targeting the 6-3 Johnson to play on the offensive side of the ball.

The Sooners first recruited Jacobe Johnson under Lincoln Riley. Despite Riley’s departure and amid an offensive transition, the Sooners have continued to prioritize Johnson.

Whatever they’ve done has made an impression, so much so that Brandon Drumm of OUInsider at 247Sports has logged a Crystal Ball projection in favor of the Sooners.

This is the second projection from 247Sports that has Johnson heading to Norman. Oklahoma should feel very great about where they are positioned in Johnson’s recruitment.

Johnson is one of the best two-sport athletes in the state, holding Power Five offers in football and basketball. Oklahoma State may end up being the Sooners’ biggest threat to Johnson’s services but as of right now, there’s no reason to doubt that the Sooners are in the drivers’ seat.
