Top available college football transfer portal inside linebackers #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes have already added one linebacker through the transfer portal in DeaMonte Trayanum from Arizona State, and with new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles changing up the defensive scheme. it is not unrealistic for Ohio State to look for more second-level talent in the portal.

The Buckeyes are likely to run a 4-2-5 scheme and that should be a good thing considering how underwhelming the linebacker play has been in recent years, but those two backers will need to be aggressive and ready to move sideline to sideline. The list of talented linebackers in the portal is so large, I decided to split the list into two with this one focused on more inside/middle backer types. The following are the five best inside backers available in the portal as of today.

Alabama football countdown: 33 days until kickoff

We are 33 days from Alabama football kicking off its season on the road against the Missouri Tigers to start a 10-game, SEC only schedule.

There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of weeks, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.

So, what does that mean? It means that we can continue the Countdown to Kickoff en route to the Crimson Tide — and the rest of the SEC — getting things underway on Sept. 26.

With it now being Aug. 24, we are officially 33 days away from the start!

True freshman inside linebacker Jackson Bratton out of Muscle Shoals is now wearing the No. 33 for Alabama after several prominent players have worn it in the past.

For the last several seasons, Anfernee Jennings rocked the number while proving to be one of the more productive edge players in school history. Prior to Jennings, players such as linebacker Trey DePriest and fullback LeRon McClain wore it.

Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.

Height: 6-3 / Weight: 233

Class: Freshman

Hometown: Muscle Shoals (Ala.)

High School: Muscle Shoals High School

HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 155 overall / No. 10 ILB / No. 5 ALA

HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 243 overall / No. 15 ILB / No. 10 ALA

Analysis: Jackson Bratton was an underrated addition to Alabama’s 2020 recruiting class. The four-star linebacker filled a future need with Dylan Moses and Joshua McMillon both presumably entering their last seasons in Tuscaloosa.

Bratton brings size (6-foot-3, 233 pounds) and block shedding ability to the position, but his biggest strength is that he always seems to be around the football. In other words, his instincts allow him to be a step ahead most of the time.

More than likely, Bratton will take a redshirt season in 2020 before trying to crack the rotation next season.

National Signing Day has come and gone, and Alabama’s 2020 recruiting class is officially set. There were 25 total members (26, if you count North Carolina grad transfer tight end Carl Tucker) with talent across the board.

In order for fans to get to know the Crimson Tide’s newest players, we have laid out a “get to know them” article for each member.

Next player up is four-star inside linebacker Jackson Bratton out of Muscle Shoals High School in Alabama.

Jackson Bratton, Inside Linebacker

Hometown: Muscle Shoals (Ala.)

High school: Muscle Shoals

Size: 6-3, 233

Early enrollee: Yes

247Sports composite ranking: 4-star / No. 155 overall / No. 10 ILB

247Sports ranking: 4-star / No. 141 overall / No. 9 ILB

Rivals ranking: 4-star / No. 243 overall / No. 15 ILB

ESPN ranking: 4-star / 83 overall grade / No. 5 ILB

Commitment date: March 24, 2018

Signing date: Dec. 18, 2019

Where does he fit in? While Demouy Kennedy brings the elite athleticism to the inside linebacker position, Jackson brings an overall great feel for the game. He’s got excellent size (6-foot-3, 233 pounds) and instincts which constantly helps him locate and track the football.

Over the last two years, Jackson accumulated 281 tackles, 14.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries for Muscle Shoals.

Considering Alabama’s struggles at the position this season, the need for an instinctual player with surprising athleticism could really help in certain situations. It’s a strong possibility that Jackson will be able to earn some reps in 2020, whether that’s on defense or special teams.
