Steelers hosting two offensive linemen for workouts amid injuries

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to bring in some much needed depth on the offensive line, starting with workouts for J.D. DiRenzo and Garret Greenfield.

After an Achilles tear ended the season for one of the Steelers’ most consistent offensive linemen, James Daniels, Pittsburgh is looking to bring in some much-needed depth for the o-line. On Monday, the team hosted both J.D. DiRenzo and Garret Greenfield for workouts.

DiRenzo offers versatility at both guard or tackle in the NFL, having played both for Rutgers University before entering the NFL in 2023.

Greenfield, who signed with the Seahawks after going undrafted in 2024, is experienced at both tackle positions, but only started at the left tackle position during preseason before being released by Seattle.

Steelers fans can sleep easier knowing that their team is on the cusp of rebuilding its offensive line depth, which has been utterly decimated after losing three members of the unit to season-ending injuries.  Pittsburgh will look to rebound at home in Week 5 versus the Cowboys after a heartbreaking loss in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Panthers sign J.D. DiRenzo to active roster, Mike Boone to practice squad

To fill Jonathan Mingo’s vacancy, the Panthers have signed G J.D. DiRenzo to their active roster while adding RB Mike Boone to the practice squad.

The Carolina Panthers had some adjustments to make this afternoon upon placing wide receiver Jonathan Mingo on injured reserve.

Taking Mingo’s place on the active roster is fellow rookie J.D. DiRenzo. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound guard was elevated from the practice squad to the game day roster in each of the past three weeks.

DiRenzo appeared in two of those three outings, recording four offensive snaps in the Week 15 win over the Atlanta Falcons and just one in the Week 16 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Each look, per Pro Football Focus, came as an extra blocker along the Carolina offensive line.

With DiRenzo now up, the Panthers have signed running back Mike Boone to take the hog molly’s place on their practice squad.

The 5-foot-10, 206-pound rusher has accumulated six NFL seasons—having spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos and Houston Texans. He played in nine games for Houston this season, totaling 23 rushing yards on five attempts along with seven receptions for another 40 yards.

Panthers elevate J.D. DiRenzo, AJ Parker for Week 17

The Panthers have elevated G J.D. DiRenzo and CB AJ Parker for their Week 17 matchup against the Jaguars.

For the first time in three weekends, the Carolina Panthers won’t be double-dipping into their practice squad for a pair of hog mollies.

As first reported by Kassidy Hill of Panthers.com on Saturday afternoon, the team is calling up guard J.D. DiRenzo and cornerback AJ Parker for their Week 17 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both are standard elevations.

DiRenzo had been brought up the previous two games alongside fellow guard Gabe Jackson, who was officially added to the active roster on Friday night. The undrafted rookie lined up for four offensive snaps in the Week 15 win over the Atlanta Falcons and for one in the Week 16 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Parker, who signed to the Panthers’ practice squad on Nov. 22, will be making his first trip up to the game day roster as the defense deals with injuries to corners Jaycee Horn (questionable) and Troy Hill (out). The 5-foot-11, 178-pound defender appeared in 16 games for the Detroit Lions between 2021 and 2022.

Panthers elevate Gabe Jackson, J.D. DiRenzo for Week 16

For the second straight week, the Panthers have elevated Gabe Jackson and J.D. DiRenzo from the practice squad.

The Carolina Panthers are running it back this weekend with a pair of hog mollies.

As first reported by Darin Gantt of Panthers.com on Saturday afternoon, the team has elevated offensive linemen Gabe Jackson and J.D. DiRenzo for tomorrow’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Both players were brought up from the practice squad for last week’s eventual win over the Atlanta Falcons.

That victory saw Jackson take over duties at right guard from starter Nash Jensen. The 10th-year veteran impressed a number of folks over his 33 snaps, including interim head coach Chris Tabor.

“He came in there, we ripped off a couple good runs there, right away when he came in,” Tabor said on Monday. “He’s a strong player, been around the block, has a lot of experience. And it was just something that we felt like we just needed to do at that time. Thought that he did some really nice things.

“And as I always say, it’s any player, he’s gonna want some plays back. And we’ll work hard this week to get those things rectified and build off the things that he did well. But really pleased with his performance . . . for a guy that just got here.”

Jackson earned an overall mark of 72.2 from Pro Football Focus, the third-highest on the Carolina offense in Week 15. He also graded out at a team-best 78.7 in run blocking.

While Tabor has not specified who will be starting at right guard on Sunday, Jackson seems likely to get the nod.

Panthers Week 15 inactives: 2 WRs down as healthy scratches vs. Falcons

The Panthers are heading into their Week 15 matchup against the Falcons with just four active wide receivers.

With the rainy and windy forecast now proven to be correct, the Carolina Panthers are preparing to be grounded.

Wideouts Terrace Marshall Jr. and Mike Strachan have been ruled out as healthy scratches for today’s potentially sloppy matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. That’ll leave the Panthers with just four receivers at their disposal—Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

Marshall Jr. will be inactive for the fifth straight game. The former second-round pick has amassed 18 receptions for 134 yards in his third NFL season.

Carolina, also in anticipation of a run-heavy approach, called up guards Gabe Jackson and J.D. DiRenzo from their practice squad yesterday afternoon. Both are standard elevations.

Here’s the full list of inactives for the Panthers this afternoon:

  • CB D’Shawn Jamison
  • OLB Eku Leota
  • WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
  • OT David Sharpe
  • WR Mike Strachan
  • TE Ian Thomas

And as for the visiting Falcons:

  • OLB Bud Dupree
  • TE John FitzPatrick

  • OL Chris Lindstrom
  • OL Kaleb McGary

Panthers elevate 2 offensive linemen for Week 15 matchup vs. Falcons

The Panthers are elevating guards Gabe Jackson and J.D. DiRenzo for their Week 15 matchup against the Falcons.

Given the wet and windy forecast for Charlotte, the winner inside the trenches at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday is likely to come out on top. So, the Carolina Panthers enlisted the help of some reinforcements.

As reported by Darin Gantt of Panthers.com on Saturday afternoon, the team has called up guards Gabe Jackson and J.D. DiRenzo for their Week 15 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Both are standard elevations from the practice squad.

Jackson, who was elevated for last week’s loss to the New Orleans Saints, is making his second trip up to the roster. The 32-year-old veteran was signed to Carolina’s practice squad back on Nov. 29.

DiRenzo is an undrafted rookie out of Rutgers University. He appeared in all three of the Panthers’ preseason contests, where he amassed 102 offensive snaps.

The Panthers are expected to start fellow undrafted Nash Jensen at right guard and Cade Mays at left guard. Last Sunday, Mays came on in relief of Justin McCray—who has since been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Panthers’ initial 2023 practice squad

Here is the Carolina Panthers’ initial 16-man practice squad for the 2023 season:

The Carolina Panthers have officially rounded out their initial practice squad for the 2023 season—adding former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver and Frank Reich draft pick Dezmon Patmon on Tuesday.

So, let’s take a look at the entire (and complete) 16-man group:

Panthers announce 11 signings to initial 2023 practice squad

The Panthers signed the first 11 players to their initial 2023 practice squad.

The Carolina Panthers did plenty of work on Tuesday, making over 20 moves to get their once 90-man roster down to just 53. But, as always, their work was never done.

Next, on Wednesday, came the construction of the team’s initial practice squad. Here, as announced this afternoon, are the first 11 members of the group:

  • RB Spencer Brown
  • G Deonte Brown
  • G J.D. DiRenzo
  • G Justin McCray
  • DL Raequan Williams
  • DL Taylor Stallworth
  • OLB Eku Leota
  • OLB Jordan Thomas
  • CB Mark Milton
  • CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver III
  • S Eric Rowe

With NFL teams allowed to carry 16 players per practice squad, the Panthers will have five more spots to fill in the upcoming days. So expect, especially after the extra cuts and maneuvering throughout the league on Wednesday, some more additions soon.

As for who those additions may be, Carolina could look to bring back the trio of players they just waived in quarterback Matt Corral, wide receiver Derek Wright and linebacker Chandler Wooten.
