Kings worked out prospects Jaden Springer, Isaiah Todd on Sunday

The Kings reportedly hosted a pre-draft workout that included Jaden Springer and Isaiah Todd on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Sacramento Kings reportedly hosted a pre-draft workout that included Jaden Springer and Isaiah Todd, according to James Ham of NBC Sports California.

Springer averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 25 games last season with Tennessee. He is highly touted as a strong defensive player while he proved to be solid on the offensive end of the floor. He is viewed as one of the most NBA-ready prospects this year.

Todd averaged 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 15 games with the NBA G League Ignite. He produced his best performance when the Ignite needed a win and some help to qualify for the playoffs, producing 25 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots on March 6.

Sacramento enters the draft with the ninth and 39th overall selections, respectively. The Kings have not publicly released the prospects they have worked out, but have certainly been active during the process as they keep their plans close to the vest.

The NBA draft is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 29.

Lakers to workout Isaiah Todd, Matthew Hurt, four more players Friday

The Los Angeles Lakers are working out Isaiah Todd, Matthew Hurt and four more prospects, the team announced.

The Los Angeles Lakers will work out a new batch of prospects ahead of the NBA draft, the team announced.

The latest group of prospects include Isaiah Todd of the G League Ignite, Matthew Hurt of Duke, Javonte Smart of LSU, Jordan Schakel of San Diego State, JaQuori McLaughlin of UC Santa Barbara and D’Mitrik Trice of Wisconsin.

Los Angeles currently holds the No. 22 overall pick in the draft, and among the players in this group, Todd is the most likely to go the highest as a possible late first-round or second-round pick.

Todd, 6’10”, played one season with Ignite and averaged 12.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 24.4 minutes over the course of 15 games; he started in two of them. He shot 43.7 percent overall on 11.1 attempts and 36.2 percent from deep on 3.1 attempts.

Hurt, 6’9″, has a chance to get selected later in the second round. He played two seasons with Duke and improved with more minutes and a larger role.

He averaged 18.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in 32.7 minutes a game, and his shooting ability stands out the most. He shot 55.6 percent overall on 12.3 attempts and 44.4 percent from 3-point range on 5.3 attempts.

Smart, a 6’4″ guard, projects as a late second-round pick or undrafted. He played three seasons at LSU, most recently averaging 16.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 35.6 minutes. He shot 46 percent overall on 12.6 attempts and 40.2 percent from deep on 6.2 attempts.

Smart has steadily increased his 3-point percentage every season with the volume also soaring, which is a good sign for him if he can translate it to the NBA level.

Schakel is a 6’6″ guard who played all four seasons at SDSU. As a senior, he averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 47.3 percent overall on 9.8 attempts and 46.1 percent from deep on 6.4 attempts.

McLaughlin, 6’4″ guard, played five seasons of collegiate basketball, but his second season with Oregon State lasted only six games. He moved to UCSB and most recently put up 16.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 48.8 percent overall on 10.9 attempts and 40.8 percent from the perimeter on 4.0 attempts.

Trice, 6’0″ guard, is one of the oldest prospects in the draft; he turned 25 in May. His sophomore season with Wisconsin was cut short, so he had the chance to play another full season. Trice recently averaged 13.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds while converting on 41 percent of his shots on 11.1 attempts and 37.3 percent from deep on 5.4 attempts.

The common skill shared by all players in this pool is their 3-point shooting. Todd’s potential is intriguing as a floor-spacer of his size, but he has plenty of skills to refine at the NBA level. Hurt’s size and knock-down shooting prowess make him a coveted pick in the second round, but since the Lakers don’t have any more picks after No. 22, it would be difficult to land him.

Smart, Schakel, McLaughlin and Trice could all be options for L.A. for the South Bay Lakers G League team or the Summer League squad.

Report: G League Ignite’s Isaiah Todd to have pre-draft workout for Warriors

The Warriors will reportedly host a pre-draft workout for G League Ignite forward Isaiah Todd.

As the 2021 NBA Draft inches closer, the Golden State Warriors are continuing to bring in a flurry of different prospects through Chase Center for pre-draft workouts.

After working out LSU’s Cameron Thomas, the Golden State Warriors are hosting another potential draft pick for a workout. According to Wes Goldberg of the Mercury News, former G League Ignite forward Isaiah Todd will work out for the Warriors on Wednesday.

Via @wcgoldberg on Twitter:

Todd was a former Michigan commit that opted to play in the G League with fellow top prospects Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga.

During the G League bubble in Orlando, Todd averaged 12.3 points on 43.7% shooting from the floor in 24.2 minutes per contest. Todd showed the ability to shoot from long distance, draining 36.2% on 3.1 attempts from beyond the arc. The 19-year-old added 4.9 rebounds in 15 games in the G League bubble.

In the latest mock draft from Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win, Todd landed with the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 57 overall pick.

Via For The Win:

Isaiah Todd mostly held his own in the G League, but he shot just 58 percent at the rim, which would have ranked him in the 11th percentile among all big men in the NBA this past season.

As draft night continues to get closer, the Warriors will likely continue bringing in different prospects for workouts and interviews before the final window for pre-draft homework closes.

2021 NBA Mock Draft 6.0: Predicting all 60 picks after the combine

While most of the basketball world is focused on the NBA Finals, scouts and draftniks are in the midst of a very busy time of year as well.

While most of the basketball world is focused on the NBA Finals, scouts and draftniks are in the midst of a very busy time of year as well.

The most crucial dates leading up to the draft are the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the early entry application deadline, the lottery, the combine and the early entry withdrawal deadline. All have since come and gone, which means that we’re somehow already in the home stretch before the big night in Brooklyn on July 29.

Prospects are still frantically traveling around the country, visiting with teams for both individual and group workouts in front of key decision-makers. Still, others are currently playing for their national team on the FIBA circuit.

But as far as the public is concerned, the only new information that will be released between now and the draft will be filtered through whatever is reported by journalists. As such, until intel starts rolling in, this mock draft offers the most informed projections yet.

While these predictions are based on my conversations with NBA scouts and executives around the league, as well as my own scouting and information-gathering, they’re subject to change dramatically over the course of the next few weeks.

NBA Mock Draft 5.0: All 60 picks updated after the 2021 lottery

Learn who we think will get selected with each of the 60 picks in the 2021 NBA draft.

The 2021 NBA draft order is set and the Detroit Pistons have won the lottery, taking home the No. 1 overall pick on Tuesday evening.

Of course, these projections are subject to change even over the next few days, as the NBA’s combine is currently underway in Chicago. Prospects are often able to separate themselves and improve their draft stock if they stand out during five-on-five scrimmages that will take place later this week.

Note that there are several players who are currently “testing the waters” (e.g. Texas Tech’s Terrence Shannon Jr., UCLA’s Johnny Juzang, St. John’s Julian Champagnie and Oral Roberts’ Max Abmas, etc.) that were omitted from this mock. Such players will have until midnight on July 8 to decide if they wish to return to the NCAA and improve their draft stock or remain in this class.

Unfortunately, collegiate national champion Jared Butler was omitted from our mock after news broke earlier today that he is “not permitted to play or practice” in the NBA, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, unless his heart condition is deemed as cleared.

We will continue to release more mock drafts as we gather more intel, but until then, here is how we project the draft to shake out on July 29.

Isaiah Todd: ‘I have a unique game and try to do a little bit of everything’

Viewed as a trailblazer, Isaiah Todd is hoping to carry his momentum from the G League into the pre-draft process.

When Isaiah Todd, and several other high-profile players, opted to sign with the NBA G League Ignite, the former five-star prospect was viewed as a trailblazer. Todd helped launch the program and made a name for himself by doing so.

Of course, the Ignite complete their inaugural season in March as the group finished 8-8 and qualified for the playoffs in the truncated season at the Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida. Todd was among the players that helped the Ignite become must-watch TV each game.

Todd averaged 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 15 games with the Ignite.

He produced his best performance of the season when the Ignite needed a win and some help to qualify for the playoffs. On March 6, Todd registered his first double-double of the season with 25 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.

The opportunity to play in the G League last season helped Todd solidify his place in the upcoming draft class. He projects to hear his name called on July 29, and is hoping to carry his momentum from the G League into the pre-draft process.

The 19-year-old is currently training in Atlanta ahead of the draft and is slated to compete in the combine June 21-27 in Chicago. Given his skillset, Todd has been touted as a versatile prospect that could be a steal for a prospective team.

Todd recently sat down with Rookie Wire to discuss the pre-draft process, his experience last season with the Ignite, the upcoming combine and much more.

2021 NBA Draft Big Board 4.0: Top 100 prospects pre-combine and lottery

Now that the early entry list is officially out and combine invitations have been sent out, the 2021 NBA draft class is starting to finalize.

Now that the early entry deadline has passed and combine invitations have been sent out, the 2021 NBA draft class is starting to finalize.

Last year, the NCAA tournament and the combine were both canceled due to the pandemic. That made evaluations much tougher for scouts and front offices around the league. This year, the pre-draft process feels somewhat normal again for top basketball prospects who are set to join the pros.

As a new class of players prepares to turn professional, here is how we would currently rank this class based on what we have seen from them so far, with some of my picks that are higher than other experts have them ranked.

2021 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Player comparisons and predicting all 60 picks

Who should the Houston Rockets select if they get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft?

While fans are now enjoying the NBA postseason, there are several teams that didn’t make the playoffs with full attention on the draft.

Now that the regular season and play-in tournament are both complete, the order is set for picks No. 15 to No. 60. However, we will have to wait until the lottery on June 22.

For more details on odds for when each team in the lottery will be on the clock, you can read this post by our own Charles Curtis.

Meanwhile, we also have a pretty clear idea of which prospects have opted to declare for the 2021 NBA draft. But any stragglers still have until May 30 to make their decision in order to be eligible for draft consideration.

Scouts and executives around the league will have an even better feel for this class come June 21, when the combine begins in Chicago.

After that, all those who hired either NCAA-certified agents or do not already have any representation have until July 19 to decide if they wish to remain in the class and forego their collegiate eligibility or return to school.

Until then, however, this is how we predict the two rounds of the 2021 NBA draft will shake out:

2021 NBA Draft Big Board 3.0: Top 100 prospects pre-early entry deadline

As the NBA’s 2020-21 regular season nears its close, the league’s next wave of talent is preparing to take the great leap to become pros.

As the NBA’s 2020-21 regular season nears its close, the league’s next wave of talent is preparing to take the great leap to become pros.

Players have until the end of this month, May 30, to apply for entry into the 2021 NBA draft. They will then have until July 19 to determine whether or not they plan to stay in this class or (unless they hired an agent who does not have NCAA certification) return to school.

This is obviously an incredibly difficult decision and as the majority of early entry candidates have made their intentions public, those who are testing the waters are already weighing their options.

Fortunately, the NBA’s Undergraduate Advisory Committee (UAC) exists to help answer some of those questions.

The advisory committee, which began in 1997, offers feedback to prospects on their potential draft stock. As many prospects are facing pivotal decisions about their future, this kind of intel is incredibly important.

Players like Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert and Baylor’s Jared Butler both went through this process last season, likely were not satisfied with the results and opted to return. Now, after tremendous efforts last season, both are projected first-rounders.

These decisions have tremendous financial implications for these individuals as well. For example, even if Kispert or Butler went with the last pick in the first round in 2020, they would have likely earned a contract worth around $5 million over three years. This year, even if they went outside of the lottery at at No. 15 overall, that would be around $8.5 million.

With that in mind, for the latest version of For The Win’s 2021 NBA draft big board, I’ve provided my evaluation for the top prospects expected to be in the pre-draft process. Players excluded from this exercise were likely because the reporting suggests that they are going back to school.

Note that these decisions were fully based on where I would have each player ranked, not a projection, although various conversations with scouts as well as other talent evaluators around the league have factored into my evaluation.
