When, where, how to watch Oklahoma basketball take on Iowa State

Everything you need to know before Oklahoma takes on Iowa State on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2021 Big 12 Tournament.

No. 25 Oklahoma basketball (14-9, 9-8) closed the regular season on a four-game losing streak that saw them slide down both the rankings and the Big 12 standings. Because of the dip, the Sooners have found themselves as just the No. 7 seed in the annual conference tournament thus forcing them to play in the opening round on Wednesday night as opposed to getting a bye like the each of the top-6 teams do.

Awaiting Oklahoma in the first round is Iowa State (2-21, 0-18) who certainly had a very tough season that saw them go winless in league play throughout the year. Despite that, the Cyclones did give the Sooners competitive games in each of their two regular season meetings.

The first matchup back on Feb. 6 in Norman was competitive to the final minutes with Oklahoma getting the 79-72 win. The second game came just two weeks later in Ames and saw the Sooners jump out to a big first half lead before Iowa State came storming back to even briefly hold an advantage themselves in the second half before Oklahoma righted the ship and pulled away late.

Needless to say, the Sooners desperately need to find a way to win this game. Removing the fact that they are on a four-game losing streak and simply need victories to try and get some confidence before the NCAA Tournament, a loss to a squad with two wins and zero conference victories at this point in the season is just inexcusable for a team with any postseason aspirations.

For this first round game of the 2021 Big 12 Tournament, here is everything you need to know:

WHEN:   8:30 p.m. CT (Approximate)

WHERE:   Kansas City, Missouri (T-Mobile Center)

HOW TO WATCH:   ESPN (Bob Wischusen, Fran Fraschilla & Holly Rowe)

HOW TO LISTEN:   Sooner Sports Radio Network – 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Tune In Radio App (Toby Rowland & Kevin Henry)

Big 12 spring football preview: Iowa State looks to give Oklahoma serious challenge for title

A pre-spring Big 12 football preview. Which team is going to stand up and challenge the Oklahoma Sooners for conference supremacy?

Editor’s note: This article was originally published by USA TODAY Sports and has been republished in its entirety below.

College football never stops. Even though the season ended just more than a month ago, preparations are already full speed toward the 2021 campaign.

Spring practices give teams an opportunity to develop starters, find replacements for departed players and give young talent the chance to gain experience.

The outlook for the Big 12 again focuses on Oklahoma. The Sooners have won the league for six consecutive seasons, but aspirations will be higher this year with most of their best players returning on both sides of the ball. The contenders to knock them off the mountain include Iowa State. The Cyclones are loaded for a run as Matt Campbell continues to build the program into one of the conference’s best.

There’s several other teams hoping to break through, including Oklahoma State, Texas, TCU and West Virginia.

Texas Longhorns Basketball: Big 12 updates schedule after postponements

On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced UT’s three makeup dates for games that were postponed. All will come within a week and will be on the road.

Heading into this week, Texas had two games remaining on their schedule against Kansas and Texas Tech. The Longhorns are currently 7-5 in Big 12 play and would have only played 14 out of their 18 originally scheduled conference matchups.

On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced three makeup dates for games that were postponed due to COVID-19 or the winter storm. All will come within a week and be on the road. Here is the updated schedule:

  • Tuesday, March 2 – at Iowa State (2-16)
  • Thursday, March 4 – at Oklahoma (14-5)
  • Sunday, March 7 – at TCU (11-9)

With the Feb. 28 game against Texas Tech also being on the road, Texas’ final four games will be away from Austin. With all the cancelations, the Longhorns have only competed in four away games, having a 3-1 record.

Oklahoma will fare as the biggest game of the three rescheduled. Iowa State and TCU are in the bottom three in the Big 12 standings and the Sooners are a quality NCAA Tournament team. The reverse matchup in Austin went in favor of the Sooners and will be looking to sweep Texas for the first time since 2014-2015.

Baylor is the one postponed game Texas will not be able to make up. The Big 12 tournament is set to begin on March 10 and it would have been a schedule overload to fit it in.
