Three takeaways from Oklahoma’s 66-56 win against Iowa State in Ames

Three immediate takeaways from Oklahoma’s 66-56 win over Iowa State in Ames on Saturday.

Ames demons conquered

A big storyline throughout the leadup to this game was the fact that Oklahoma had not won in Ames at Hilton Coliseum since 2011 – meaning Lon Kruger never had as head coach of the Sooners. That narrative can now be put to bed.

The current players have little to do with that losing streak. However, it still has to be nice to at least get that subject to be no longer discussed going forward. It has to offer some small relief to Kruger even though he’d likely never admit to it.

While this game did get hairy in the second half for a while, Oklahoma continues to do a great job of taking advantage of lesser competition. When facing the bottom teams in the ultra-competitive Big 12 you have to take advantage – they did that again on Saturday.
