Let’s take a look at the top 10 remaining unsigned recruits with the early signing period officially in the books.

Five recruits that LSU needs to make priority

These five recruits should be top priority for Brian Kelly.

The LSU Tigers signed all 13 of their commitments on the first day of the early signing period. Looking beyond those 13 plus the one incoming transfer, there is work to be done for Brian Kelly.

The new head coach still needs to fill out his coaching staff while looking to add to the current roster. Two of the biggest names still on the board have the LSU Tigers firmly in the mix. Harold Perkins and Jacoby Mathews are both waiting until January to make their commitments.

We look at five recruits who should be the top priority for the Purple and Gold in the 2022 recruiting class.

LOOK: Five-star LB Harold Perkins meets with Steve Sarkisian and staff

Perkins would be a massive get for Steve Sarkisian’s first full recruiting class. Sark, Banks, Gideon, PK and Joseph all showed up.

Steve Sarkisian and company are making their way around the country to visit top prospects.

The Texas staff met with five-star linebacker Harold Perkins in his home on Wednesday night. Pictured below is special teams coordinator Jeff Banks, safeties coach Blake Gideon, secondary coach Terry Joesph, head coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.

Having several of Texas’ top recruiters present at Perkins home is a clear indicator of the type of rare talent he possesses.

The 247Sports composite rankings have Perkins rated as the No. 1 linebacker in the country and No. 5 overall prospect in the 2022 class.

Pekins has named Texas A&M, LSU and Texas as his top three schools as he plans to sign during the early signing period next week.

A commitment from Perkins would make up an excellent linebacker class for Texas. The Horns currently have two linebackers committed in four-star Kobie Mckinzie and three-star Trevell Johnson.

Texas’ recruiting class is ranked No. 7 in the nation with multiple top targets still on the board. Steve Sarkisian’s first full class has a chance to finish in the top five if Texas can close with a few key players down the stretch.

After a 5-7 record Texas’ recruiting effort has been impressive.

Brian Kelly set to visit with five-star linebacker Harold Perkins

Brian Kelly set to visit a five-star defender.

LSU Tigers’ new head coach Brian Kelly is looking to make a final push for the No. 6 player in the country.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, Kelly will visit with five-star target Harold Perkins (subscription required). Texas A&M’s head coach Jimbo Fisher and Texas Longhorns’ head coach Steve Sarkisian will also pay visits to the top linebacker in the state of Texas.

Perkins recently listed LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M as his final three schools. He isn’t going to make a decision until the Under Armour All-American game. Industry experts believe that he will ultimately land in College Station but the new LSU head coach is going to make a push to land his pledge.

The report also indicated the possibility of Perkins taking an official visit to Baton Rouge prior to the NCAA’s dead period. He has taken official visits to both Texas and Texas A&M. It remains to be seen as to if that will be the came with the Tigers as well.

The interesting dynamic is that Kelly has yet to announce any of his coaching staff to this point. Who will be running the defense? It could be Daronte Jones, who showed improvement throughout the season in his first year as a play caller.

Blake Baker is listed as Perkins’ primary recruiter and there are rumors of him possibly joining SMU as the defensive coordinator. There are plenty of layers to this, hopefully, closure is coming soon on that front.

LSU battling it out with Texas, Texas A&M for five-star linebacker

Top linebacker in Texas has LSU among his top 3.

There is a better than likely chance that the LSU Tigers could lose four-star linebacker commit Demario Tolan to the Georgia Bulldogs when the early signing period approaches. Tolan has taken multiple trips to Athen and with the uncertainty surrounding the head coach vacancy, it wouldn’t be that much of a surprise.

However, perhaps LSU could be getting some good news on the recruiting front? On Thursday the highly coveted five-star linebacker Harold Perkins released his top three schools. He plans on committing on Jan. 2, 2022, and signing in February on National Signing Day.

Perkins is down to LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M. Blake Baker is hoping to close the deal for the No. 2 linebacker in the country and No. 2 player in the state of Texas according to 247Sports composite rankings. Perkins can be an instant impact linebacker and could be the next top player at the position in a long line of big-time linebackers.

Charles Powers of On3 gave a rave review for Perkins:

“He’s one of the best run and hit linebacker prospects in the last handful of classes,” Power said. “He makes big plays on both sides of the ball. Ability to chase plays from the weak-side with ease and fluidity. He’s shown improvement in taking on blocks and blowing up offensive linemen is evident on senior video. He has also improved in timing blitzes.”

Five-star LB Harold Perkins announces top three schools, Texas makes the cut

Texas among the top three schools for five-star linebacker Harold Perkins.

With the Dec. 15 early signing day quickly approaching, Texas is still trying to bring in some high level players to join their already loaded 2022 recruiting class.

Steve Sarkisian’s first full class is currently sitting at No. 7 in the nation, and it will likely climb a few spots if they’re able to land a few of the remaining targets on the board.

One of the highest rated recruits left on Texas’ board is five-star linebacker Harold Perkins. The Cypress, Texas native is rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class, and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Texas.

On Thursday, Perkins announced the final three schools left in his recruitment. Texas made the cut alongside Texas A&M and LSU.

Texas has a few more weeks to persuade him to become a Longhorn, as he is expected to announce his commitment on Jan. 2.

As it currently stands, Perkins holds three crystal ball predictions in favor of Texas A&M.

The Longhorns need physical and fast linebackers like Perkins. The extra time that Texas now has from not making a bowl game needs to be maximized in order to attract future stars with this type of talent.

A pair of 5-stars to visit Michigan State football this weekend

MSU will have two 2022 5-stars on campus this weekend:

Michigan State is set to have one of the biggest recruiting weekends in recent history. It is most certainly going to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the Mel Tucker era.

The Spartans coaching staff is set to host a plethora of 4 star recruits, but the weekend is going to be headlined by two star players, a pair of 5-stars.

Harold Perkins and Kiyaunta Goodwin are the two five-stars that will be in attendance this weekend.

Perkins is a linebacker from Cypress, Texas. He is ranked the No. 5 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. Texas A&M, Texas and LSU are the main competition for Perkins. He will be visiting unofficially.

Goodwin is Charlestown, Indiana native that is currently a Kentucky commit. He has been in contact with the Spartans for a good bit. He is ranked the No. 12 overall player according to 247Sports. Alabama, Michigan and Ohio State are all in the mix to flip Goodwin.
