Panthers cut OL Cameron Erving, 2 others to get to 53-man roster

The Panthers have cut OL Cameron Erving, CB Greg Mabin and DL Taylor Stallworth to reach their initial 53-man roster.

The Carolina Panthers made 24 moves leading into Tuesday afternoon’s practice, cutting 22 players and placing two more—guard Austin Corbett and defensive lineman Henry Anderson—on the shelf. So, that left them with three more to make before this afternoon’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.

And now, they’ve made them.

As announced 20 minutes after said deadline, the Panthers parted ways with three more players—offensive tackle Cameron Erving, defensive lineman Taylor Stallworth and cornerback Greg Mabin.

Erving, of course, pops as the most notable departure of the trio. The former Cleveland Browns first-round pick and member of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LIV team re-signed with the Panthers back in May on a one-year deal.

He’s spent the last two seasons in Carolina, appearing in 20 games with nine starts at the left tackle position in 2021. In his lone appearance of the 2023 preseason, the 6-foot-5, 315-pounder allowed four pressures in just 14 pass-blocking opportunities.

The Carolina Panthers made a swap in their secondary on Thursday.

Cornerback Greg Mabin, who was invited to mandatory minicamp as one of three tryout players this past week, has been signed by the team. To make room, the Panthers released safety Vernon Scott—who was added to the roster one month ago.

Mabin cracked into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017. After being waived just a week later, the University of Iowa product played his rookie campaign as a member of the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers—appearing in a combined seven games.

He’d then go on to pick up six more stops with four more teams—the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals—over the next five years. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defensive back spent the last two seasons, in what was his third stint for the franchise, as a Titan.

Panthers hosting 3 tryout players for mandatory minicamp

The Panthers are expected to host three tryout players at mandatory minicamp this week, including a former second-round pick.

After yesterday’s release of defensive tackle Jalen Dalton, the Carolina Panthers are entering mandatory minicamp on Tuesday one player short of a full 90-man roster. But they could have No. 90 on hand this week.

Per team reporter Darin Gantt, the Panthers are expected to host three tryout players for the upcoming practice sessions. The trio includes tight end Jordan Matthews and cornerbacks Greg Mabin and Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes.

Matthews, a former wide receiver, was a second-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2014. The distant relative of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder has officially played eight seasons in the NFL.

His last stop came with the San Francisco 49ers, a run that ended in the summer of 2022 following a torn ACL. Matthews, in addition to a pair of runs in both Philly and San Fran, has also picked up stints for the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.

Mabin—6-foot-2, 200 pounds—entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He appeared in six games for the Tennessee Titans this past season.

Keyes—6-foot-1, 202 pounds—was a seventh-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020. His last NFL snap came in 2021.

Titans promote C.J. Board to active roster among 4 moves

The Titans have also placed DB Lonnie Johnson on injured reserve.

The Tennessee Titans have made four moves ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on “Thursday Night Football”.

The team announced it has placed defensive back Lonnie Johnson on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Taking his spot on the roster is wide receiver C.J. Board, who has been promoted from the practice squad.

Board made his Titans debut last week and served as the team’s punt returner. He had a few nice returns and downed one of Ryan Stonehouse’s punts at the five-yard line.

In addition to those moves, the Titans are elevating defensive backs Greg Mabin and Davontae Harris from the practice squad for Week 11.

Harris joined the team this week, while Mabin is a familiar face after having played in five games for the Titans in 2021.

Tennessee and Green Bay will kickoff from Lambeau field at 8:15 p.m. EDT. You can check out all the viewing and listening information below.

Titans agree to terms with DB Greg Mabin

The Titans agreed to terms with DB Greg Mabin on Monday.

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with defensive back Greg Mabin, the team announced on Monday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A former undrafted free agent signing of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017, Mabin has had multiple stints with the Titans over the past few seasons, spending time on the practice squad.

In 2021, he appeared in five games (two starts) and tallied 10 tackles and one pass defended.

Mabin has been well traveled since entering the league, playing in contests with the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars.

In 39 career games, Mabin has 51 tackles, seven passes defended and one fumble recovery.

Mabin joins a crowded group in the secondary in Tennessee and will look to earn a spot as a backup on the 53-man roster out of training camp. The Titans added two others to their secondary recently in cornerback Roger McCreary and defensive back Theo Jackson via the 2022 NFL draft.

Titans place Greg Mabin on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Titans placed CB Greg Mabin on the COVID-19 list on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans placed cornerback Greg Mabin on the COVID-19 list on the Wednesday ahead of their divisional-round game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mabin has appeared in five games (two starts) for the Titans this season. He has tallied one pass defended and 10 tackles.

Mabin is the only player on the COVID-19 list for the Titans at the moment, but the obvious concern here is that there will be more before Saturday’s game. Let’s hope that is not the case.

After having a serious outbreak in 2020, the Titans haven’t seen anything like that situation in 2021. Sure, there have been clusters of infections over the season, but nothing like the 20-plus-player disaster of the year prior.

Mabin isn’t the only cornerback causing some concern this week, as Jackrabbit Jenkins popped up on the injury report on Wednesday with an ankle issue.

Tennessee and Cincinnati will meet at Nissan Stadium on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. CST.

Titans add Adrian Peterson to active roster, place Greg Mabin on IR

The Titans have officially added Adrian Peterson to the active roster, but suffered yet another loss in the secondary.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of roster moves on Friday ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on “Sunday Night Football.”

Tennessee has officially added running back Adrian Peterson to its active roster. Peterson will assume the running back duties in the wake of superstar rusher Derrick Henry’s injury, along with fellow back Jeremy McNichols.

In addition to that move, the Titans also placed cornerback Greg Mabin (ankle) on Injured Reserve, which means he will be out for at least the next three games. Mabin had been starting the past two weeks.

Mabin’s injury is the latest blow to the Titans’ injury-plagued secondary that is also without starting cornerback Kristian Fulton and backup and first-round pick, Caleb Farley.

By adding Peterson and placing Mabin on IR, the Titans still have two open spots on their 53-man roster. More moves could be on the way on Saturday.

Titans sign Bobby Hart, Greg Mabin among 4 roster moves

The Titans also designated Larrell Murchison and Daniel Munyer to return from IR.

The Tennessee Titans made four roster moves on Wednesday afternoon, including the signings of cornerback Greg Mabin and offensive tackle Bobby Hart to the active roster.

In addition, the team also designated defensive lineman Larrell Murchison and center Daniel Munyer to return from Injured Reserve. This opens their 21-day window to return to practice and be activated.

Mabin has spent multiple stints on the Titans’ practice squad since 2020, and was with the team in training camp this year before going on IR and being cut.

He was most recently on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad but didn’t play a snap with the team. He figures to factor into the equation as depth with the Titans being very thin at the cornerback position.

Hart is a six-year veteran, having spent time with the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals. He has appeared in 79 games during his career, 66 of which have been starts. He’ll provide depth upfront for Tennessee.

Report: Titans to sign CB Greg Mabin off Cardinals’ practice squad

The Titans are reportedly set to reunite with cornerback Greg Mabin.

With the Tennessee Titans very thin at the cornerback position due to injury, the team is bringing in a familiar face to help fill the void.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Titans are set to sign cornerback Greg Mabin off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad to their active roster.

Mabin has spent multiple stints on the Titans’ practice squad since 2020. He was last with the team prior to the 2021 season before being placed on Injured Reserve and later getting cut.

The move comes on the heels of the Titans placing both cornerbacks Kristian Fulton and Caleb Farley on IR. Like Farley, fellow corner Chris Jackson also sustained an injury during the Week 6 win over the Buffalo Bills. Farley has been ruled out for the year after suffering a torn ACL.

With Mabin, the Titans now have four cornerbacks on their roster in Jackson, Janoris Jenkins, Elijah Molden and Breon Borders. The team also has two more on their practice squad in Chris Jones and Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

Cardinals had 5 players in for tryout Tuesday

Their two practice squad signings came from the five workouts.

The Arizona Cardinals announced some practice squad moves Wednesday morning. That comes on the heels of having five players in on Tuesday for a workout.

The Cardinals often bring in players on Tuesday to address depth because of injuries or simply to try and make the back end of the roster better. On Tuesday, they had in three running backs and a pair of defensive backs.

They ultimately signed two of them.

Who were they?
