Jay Williams is fine with KD’s response: ‘Everyone can get the smoke’

Williams defended Durant’s response to Kendrick Perkins on ESPN’s Get Up Friday morning. KD and Perkins beefed on Twitter on Thursday night.

[jwplayer AfGhY1Bx-z6KDnl0B]

There is at least one national media personality that is decidedly Team Kevin after last night’s beef between Durant and his former teammate, Kendrick Perkins.

Jay Williams of ESPN defended Durant jumping into a conversation about Russell Westbrook being the “best to ever put on an Oklahoma City Jersey” as well as being “Mr. Thunder”, which Williams said are actually two different things.

While Williams agrees that Westbrook is “Mr. Thunder”, he said there is no denying that Durant is one of the best to play the game.

And when it comes to Durant weighing in on the conversation, Williams said simply, “everyone can get the smoke”, adding “I don’t care of you’re Kendrick Perkins or Kenny 246, if you’re going to bring the heat.”

The situation started when Perkins said he was jumping on SportsCenter to talk about why Westbrook was the greatest in OKC history. Others suggested that the title might belong instead to Durant.

Perkins said that Durant “left that door open” when he left Oklahoma City for the Warriors, mentioning KD by name. Of course, that’s when Durant did what Durant does, and responded.

The two went back and forth, trading barbs, with Perkins eventually saying Durant took the “coward way out” by joining Golden State.

Prediction

Clippers 121, Warriors 100

Moneyline (ML)

The CLIPPERS (-1111) are monster moneyline favorites in this contest, and it’s not hard to see why. The Warriors (+675) have lost six straight games overall and five straight on the road. Meanwhile, the Clippers are one of the best teams in the league and have been excellent at home this season. Due to the odds, PASS on the moneyline.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Clippers to win returns a profit of just $0.90.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The CLIPPERS (-14.5, +100) are double-digit favorites over the Warriors (+14.5, -121) at home, and that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Golden State has covered in just two of its last six games, while the Clippers have gone 21-17 against the spread this season. Expect the Clippers to cover with ease. This one could get ugly quickly in Los Angeles.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this Western Conference matchup is set at 219.5 points, which feels about right. While both teams can score at will, the Clippers’ defense can shut just about any team down when they want. Expect Los Angeles to score near 120 points, allowing the OVER 219.5 (-128) to hit in the Staples Center.

Report: Steph Curry gifted Giannis Antetokounmpo a signed jersey

According to The Athletic, After the Milwaukee Bucks took down Golden State Warriors, Giannis Antetokounmpo received a signed Stephen Curry Warriors jersey from the two-time MVP himself.

The Golden State Warriors dropped their sixth straight in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, yet the score wasn’t the thing that made headlines after the final buzzer — the lead story surrounded Giannis Antetokounmpo’s debut in San Francisco’s new Chase Center.

Antetokounmpo dropped 30 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field while grabbing 12 rebounds. The understaffed Golden State squad battled against the Eastern Conference-leading Bucks, but the “Greek Freak” proved why he’s the NBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player

The Warriors’ two-time MVP, Stephen Curry didn’t suit up against the Bucks, as he’s still dealing with a hand injury, but sat along the Golden State bench with Antetokounmpo in town.

With Antetokounmpo in San Francisco and Curry on the bench, the pair MVPs shared a moment postgame.

Many have speculated on what the two All-Star were discussing along the sideline after the game. However, According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that Curry and Antetokounmpo were talking about playing the video game, ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.’

Curry and Antetokounmpo’s night didn’t stop on the sideline. In the visiting locker room after the game, Antetokounmpo reportedly had a gift from Curry. Steve Berman of The Athletic reported that Antetokounmpo had a signed No. 30 Curry Warriors’ jersey in his locker. According to Berman, there was a long note down the zero half of the number 30.

The jersey swap isn’t their first interaction, as the two MVPs have a history dating back to the 2018 All-Star game. Both Curry and Antetokounmpo served as captains in the NBA All-Star game in 2018 and 2019. In last year’s All-Star game, Antetokounmpo selected Curry with his first overall pick.

Antetokounmpo will have the chance to return the favor and gift Curry his No. 34 when the Warriors travel to Milwaukee on March 14. Perfect timing for Curry, who could be nearing his return to the court from injury around that time.

Report: Steph Curry shows progress with hand injury in recent workout

Steph Curry has continued showing progress in rehabbing his hand injury with the video of this recent shooting workout.

[jwplayer 8gMXut6P-z6KDnl0B]

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry still has an opportunity to return to the floor this season.

According to a video from The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Curry went through a shooting workout Thursday without his left hand holding back his shooting motion. Curry is rehabbing the broken left hand injury he suffered in October. Curry had the pins taken out from the surgically repaired left hand in December.

With Curry on track in his rehab, perhaps his potential return could galvanize the young Warriors as they look to finish the season on a solid note. Curry averaged 20.3 points and 6.5 assists in four games before he suffered the hand injury.

At 9-30 the Warriors have the second-worst record in the league behind the Atlanta Hawks and are primed to have a lottery pick in this year’s draft.

With their current record, the Warriors are on pace to miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2012 postseason.

According to Drew Shiller of NBC Sports Bay Area, coach Steve Kerr said Curry has an “excellent chance” to return to the floor in March. From March 1 to the end of the regular season in the middle of April, the Warriors have 22 games.

Steph Curry drops ‘Chinese New Year’ colorway for UA Curry 7 shoes

Stephen Curry rolled out a new edition of his signature Under Armour Curry 7 shoes, with the latest getting a Chinese New Year colorway.

The 2019-20 season has been a change of pace for the Golden State Warriors two-time Most Valuable Player, Stephen Curry. Injuries have turned Curry from one of Golden State’s key contributors to lead hype man on the bench. However, one thing has stayed the course— the All-Star sharpshooter’s shoe game has been on-point.

Curry may not be sprinting around the three-point line, but his signature Under Armour Curry 7 shoes have continued to roll out new releases. Whether it’s Willie Cauley-Stein, Seth Curry, or Luka Doncic, Curry’s signature shoe has been represented across the NBA world while the former champion is dealing with a hand injury.

The All-Star guard has released kicks themed around the Warrior’ fanbase and his favorite candy, but his latest drop is an ode to the Chinese New Year.

The Under Armour shoe is two-tones of gray with a shiny gold accent line that’s capped off with a pink and green floral pattern on the heel.
According to Under Armour’s website, Curry got his inspiration from Chinese paintings.

The Curry 7 Chinese New Year colorway features a gray on gray upper comprised of several layered materials. An original floral pattern—inspired by Chinese shui-mo ink and wash painting—elevates the shoe’s back panel and a golden, flexible plate helps augment its white heel.

Curry’s new shoes are available for purchase at the Warriors’ San Francisco arena, the Chase Center. The Davidson product and Under Armour have a locker that displays each shoe as they’re released. Inside the locker, Curry shares his colorway inspiration for the new signature shoe.

After being available at Chase Center on January 8, Curry’s shoes will get a global release on January 10, just in time for the start of the Chinese New Year.

Steve Kerr praises Giannis Antetokounmpo: ‘that’s why he’s the MVP’

Steve Kerr has nothing but praise for Milwaukee Buck’s forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo after he dropped 32-points against the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors were on a five-game losing streak, the team’s record sits at the bottom of the Western Conference, and on top of that; D’Angelo Russell, Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry are all injured. However, when the Milwaukee Bucks rolled into San Francisco for the first time this season, there was excitement in the air.

Golden State battled the Bucks from wire-to-wire, but without Russell, they couldn’t complete the upset against the Eastern Conference-leaders. The Warriors dropped their sixth straight game, but regardless of wins and losses, all eyes were on No. 34 in green.

Giannis Antetokounmpo made his Chase Center debut against the Warriors and proved why he’s one of the NBA’s marquee players. Antetokounmpo tallied a double-double for 30 points and 12 rebounds against Golden State. While 30-points is a significant number in the box score, yet Antetokounmpo’s night felt quiet, ending the night shooting 10-of-21 from the field, but just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc.

To Steve Kerr, Antetokounmpo’s impact when it feels like he’s not having a good game is another reason why he’s the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. Kerr spoke to reporters after the Warriors’ loss about the 2019 MVP award winner.

That’s how good he is, I mean it didn’t feel like he had a very good game and he had 30 points and 12 rebounds — that’s why he’s the MVP — guys like that even when they don’t shoot the ball well they have a huge impact on the game — we tried to make him work, and we tried to put a bunch of bodies in front of him.

Prior to coaching players like Kevin Durant and Curry, Kerr played alongside Michael Jordan, making it safe to say he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to MVP caliber talent.

Injury Report: Draymond Green in vs. Bucks, D’Angelo Russell out again

D’Angelo Russell is set to miss his fifth straight game, while Draymond Green is set to return against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The start of the new year hasn’t been kind to the Golden State Warriors. The team has lost five straight games, and one common factor during their losing streak is the absence of D’Angelo Russell.

In the Warriors’ first of five consecutive losses, Russell collided with Slovenian star, Luka Doncic. The Louisville, Kentucky native was down on the court for several minutes, with even a stretcher coming out onto the floor for a moment. Yet, Russell was able to walk to the locker room on his own accord.

Surprisingly, Russell returned to the bench quickly and finished out the Warriors 141-121 loss to Dallas. Since then, the Ohio State product hasn’t appeared for the Warriors, missing all four games into 2020 with a shoulder injury.

Without Russell, Golden State has looked sloppy, losing all four games by a combined margin of 39 points. Still, the Warriors are being cautious with their All-Star guard, ruling him out for his fifth straight game, this time against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Without Russell, a trio of Warriors have stepped up their scoring output. Starting with Omari Spellman, who has scored double-digit numbers in his last three games, shooting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc in that time. Steve Kerr recently mentioned that Spellman has earned more playing time due to his effort of late.

Glenn Robinson III is averaging 15.5 points per game, shooting a steady 45.5 % from the field over his last four games. Alec Burks has backed Robinson’s consistent play up, adding 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while Russell has been injured.

While missing their leading scorer in Russell hurts, there is some good news for the Warriors when they suit up against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. After missing Golden State’s past game with an ankle ailment, Draymond Green will return to the court when Milwaukee makes their first appearance in the new Chase Center.

Last time Green suited up for a game, he was ejected against the Detroit Pistons in the third quarter after receiving back-to-back technicals. The Warriors will need Green to be on their best behavior as they need all the help they can get against the Eastern Conference-leading, Milwaukee Bucks.

Prediction

Bucks 115, Warriors 98

Moneyline (ML)

As you would expect, the Bucks (-1000) are monster moneyline favorites. They have won 17 of their last 20 games as they have proven to be one of the most consistent teams in the NBA from night-to-night. Golden State, on the other hand, has lost five straight games and is on pace to be one of the worst teams in the NBA. Expect the Warriors to add another loss tonight, but PASS on the moneyline odds for the Bucks with a $10 bet returning a profit of just $1.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-13.5, -106) are double-digit favorites over the Warriors and that still doesn’t feel like enough points. Golden State currently has one of the worst offenses in the NBA, along with a bottom-ranked defense. While anything can happen on a given night, it doesn’t look like the Warriors have the personnel to stop anyone in the Bucks offense. I like Milwaukee to cover the spread rather easily, despite being on the road.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this matchup is set at 218.5 points, but that feels too high considering how inconsistent the Warriors offense has been this season. The Bucks should have no problem reaching 110 or more points, but the Warriors could struggle to cross the century mark. I like the UNDER 218.5 (-106)  to hit at Chase Center.

Report: Marquese Chriss open to a potential reunion with Golden State

In an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, Marquese Chriss spoke about his time with Golden State and mentioned the chance of a potential reunion.

Last night after the Golden State Warriors underwhelming loss to the Sacramento Kings, Steve Kerr getting ejected wasn’t the most significant storyline following the game.

In a surprise move, the Warriors waived Marquese Chriss to presumably open up a roster spot for two-way contract guard, Damion Lee. Moving on from a 22-year-old power forward that’s bounced around the NBA in his four-year career may not ring any alarms, but with Golden State, Chriss was playing well.

Chriss averaged 7.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 37 games for Golden State this season. Over his time in San Francisco, the former Washington Husky had 13 contests with double-digit scoring efforts. In four games, Chriss recorded a double-double.

Chriss was on the verge of getting his non-guaranteed deal turned into a fully guaranteed contract, yet before his contract deadline, the Warriors waived the Sacramento native.

Chriss sat down with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Logan Murdock to reflect on his stint with Golden State. The former Warriors center said getting let go was a disappointment, but understood Golden State had to make a business decision.

Chriss’ time with the Warriors may not be entirely over, as they do have the chance to sign him to a 10-day contract later in the season if he clears NBA waivers. Murdock asked Chriss about a reunion on a 10-day contract later in the season, and the now-former member of Golden State said he would be up for it.

We’ve had conversations about certain things to try and make things work, but I think that’s something that I would try to keep between myself and them, just because I don’t know any situation that might come up — But who knows? I would like to be here. So eventually, if that happens, I would be all for it.

The Warriors thought highly enough of Chriss to waive Alfonzo McKinnie in training camp to sign the former lottery pick to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. It’s not out of the question for Golden State to attempt to bring Chriss back if the opportunity opens up down the road.

Warriors, Kings briefly forget how to play basketball in ghastly sequence

This is hard to watch.

The Sacramento Kings breezed past the Golden State Warriors on Monday night in a game that will be remembered for this horrific 28-second stretch of basketball that will surely go down as the worst sequence of the season. In the fourth quarter with the game out of reach already, the Kings and Warriors combined to produce a wild, back-and-forth series of blunders that included three turnovers and two blown layups. An NBA game briefly turned into under-10 rec league chaos.

Disgusting. We’re going to need some Luka Doncic highlights to wash that down.

Much better.
