Lonergan, the No. 13 quarterback in his class of 2023, was recruited by the Bulldogs coming out of high school. However, he chose to sign with Alabama. In 2024 with the Crimson Tide, he played sparingly, throwing for just 23 yards on five completions and running for 16 yards.
Five-star Ty Thompson is projected to be Alabama’s future quarterback when Jalen Milroe leaves. Now with Boston College, Lonergan has a clear path to starting.
Georgia is still in the running for other transfer quarterbacks, like Cal QB Fernando Mendoza and Charlotte QB DeShawn Purdie. Signing one of those arms will strengthen Georgia’s transfer class, which has no current commitments.
Five receivers the Georgia Bulldogs are targeting in the transfer portal including stars from LSU, Kentucky, Idaho and more
The Georgia Bulldogs have holes to fill at wide receiver with Arian Smith, Dominic Lovett and Colbie Young all likely departing after the 2024 college football season. Georgia added several talented wide receivers via traditional recruiting, but the Bulldogs want more experience and depth at the position.
Fve wide receiver Georgia football has targeted in the transfer portal:
Eric Singleton, Georgia Tech
Singleton, considered the top wide receiver transfer this year, is someone Georgia knows well. With the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Singleton totaled 104 receptions for 1,468 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons.
Dane Key is another receiver Georgia coaches should know well from playing against him. With the Kentucky Wildcats, he’s had a total of 125 receptions, 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns in three seasons. Key shows a deep understanding of defensive leverages, good body control and reliable hands despite a lack of blazing speed.
Sturdivant transferred from Cal to UCLA in 2023, so he knows how to adjust to a new playbook quickly. In three years with Cal and UCLA, Sturdivant totaled 123 receptions, 1,667 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Georgia scheduled him to visit this week. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver has drawn some NFL interest.
CJ Daniels, LSU
CJ Daniels is another SEC wide receiver the Bulldogs have their eyes set on. Daniels started his career as a reliable target at Liberty, totaling 106 receptions, 1,959 yards and 21 touchdowns in 42 games. Then, in 2024, he transferred to LSU, where he totaled 480 yards on 42 catches.
Daniels has reliable hands and a high football IQ and is good at finding weak zones within the defense. He could help a developing quarterback if Georgia gets a transfer or sticks with one of the underclassmen the Bulldogs already have.
Jordan Dwyer, Idaho
Jordan Dwyer is the last, but certainly not the least productive, name to look out for in this list. Dwyer leaves the Idaho Vandals with an impressive track record, garnering 109 catches, 1,651 yards and 18 touchdowns in three seasons.
Last year was his most productive year by far: 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns on 78 receptions. He transferred from Idaho after coach Jason Eck was named the new coach of the New Mexico Lobos.
Dwyer is one of the emerging wide receivers on the transfer portal, but Georgia has already gotten in contact with him.
Georgia is still receiving interest from top wide receiver targets including one of UGA’s latest targets from UCLA
The Georgia Bulldogs been on the hunt for wide receivers in the transfer portal window, which is set to close on Dec. 28. The Bulldogs may not be in the running for the top receiver transfer anymore, but they could be getting a visit from another one this week.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, there is growing belief that top wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant, who entered the transfer portal from UCLA on Dec. 10, will end up visiting Georgia this week. There’s no word on if the visit is official or unofficial. Sturdivant has one year left of eligibility.
The former four-star recruit transferred to UCLA from California in 2023. In three seasons, Sturdivant has 123 career receptions for 1,667 yards and 13 touchdowns.
According to Zenitz, some NFL scouts believe Sturdivant has NFL potential. He also visited Florida during the week.
ESPN thinks a Georgia Bulldogs running back can win the Heisman during the 2025 college football season
After Colorado’s Travis Hunter won the 2024 Heisman trophy, Mark Schlabach of ESPN named his way-too-early 2025 Heisman candidates. He put Georgia Bulldogs running back Nate Frazier on the list.
“If junior tailback Trevor Etienne declares for the NFL draft, Frazier should enter the 2025 season as the Bulldogs’ primary back,” says Schlabach, “He showed plenty of promise as a freshman, running 129 times for 634 yards with eight scores. Frazier, from Compton, California, improved tremendously as a pass blocker and caught 10 passes out of the backfield. He lost a couple of untimely fumbles, though, so ball security will continue to be a focus going forward.”
Trevor Etienne still has one more year of eligibility, so he could choose to stay to improve his draft stock and play a full season. However, he gets a big opportunity to raise his draft stock in the College Football Playoff.
If Indiana wins vs. Notre Dame, Georgia would be going against the No. 1 ranked run-defense in the nation, and if Trevor Etienne has a great game against the Hoosiers, his draft stock could explode.
Regardless, Nate Frazier should be the lead back if Etienne decides to declare for the draft or transfer. Frazier will get the opportunity to become one of the top running backs in the nation.
Georgia football quarterback transfer target Jackson Arnold transfers to an SEC school.
When former Oklahoma Sooner quarterback Jackson Arnold entered the transfer portal, he received significant interest from top college football teams, including the Georgia Bulldogs. On3 mentioned three teams in particular to watch out for: the Georgia Bulldogs, the Auburn Tigers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
In the end, Arnold decided to transfer to the Auburn Tigers. Tigers coach Hugh Freeze will again try to develop a transfer portal quarterback .
Arnold may have more potential than Auburn’s most recent starting quarterback, Payton Thorne. Arnold, a former five-star quarterback, had one of the best high-school careers ever for Denton, Texas. He won the Landry Award (given to the best player in Northern Texas) and the Gatorade National Player of the Year in his senior year at John H. Guyer High School.
However, he hasn’t put it together in college. He has thrown for 1,421 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also took a bunch of sacks, but the Sooners dealt with numerous injuries on their offensive line. He showed flashes of his upside when he ran for 131 yards on 25 carries in Oklahoma’s 24-3 win over Alabama.
The Bulldogs remain on the hunt for a quarterback to replace Beck next year. They’ve talked to a few top names, such as Fernando Mendoza and Deshawn Purdie, but maybe sophomore Gunner Stockton could earn the job in the College Football Playoff or Beck could return.
The Georgia Bulldogs will play Arnold and the Auburn Tigers on Oct. 11 next year.
Georgia football’s third defensive back has decided to enter the transfer portal ahead of UGA’s Sugar Bowl game
Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Justyn Rhett has decided to enter the transfer portal.
Rhett, a Las Vegas native, spent two seasons with the Bulldogs but appeared in only four games. As a freshman in 2023, he played against UT Martin and Ball State while taking a redshirt year. In 2024, he saw action in games against Clemson and Tennessee Tech, recording one tackle in each.
However, his season was cut short due to an injury he sustained early in the year. He got healthier as the season went on, but never returned to game action.
Originally a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, Rhett committed to Notre Dame before flipping to Georgia less than 10 days later. Rhett ranked as the No. 355 overall player and the 40th-best cornerback nationally, however, he primarily worked with Georgia’s safeties and star positions during his time in Athens.
With three years of eligibility remaining, Rhett will look for opportunities elsewhere. He is the fifth Georgia player to enter the portal during the winter transfer portal cycle, joining David Daniel Sisavanh, Julian Humphrey, Michael Jackson III and Jamaal Jarrett.
Daniel-Sisavanh spent all three seasons of his collegiate career with Georgia (2021-2023), playing in over 35 games, including several starts. During his time with the Bulldogs, he recorded 29 tackles and two pass deflections.
However, he was dismissed from the program prior to the 2024 season, following a statement from Kirby Smart at SEC media days in July. This came after multiple traffic-related incidents involving players in Athens since January 2023. In February of this year, Daniel-Sisavanh was charged with reckless driving and leading police on a chase, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
A native of Woodstock, Georgia, Daniel-Sisavanh was a four-star recruit in the 2021 class and ranked No. 119 nationally.

He will look for a new home for the next college football season.
Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver, kickoff return specialist plans to enter the transfer portal on Monday
Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Michael Jackson announced via social media that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Jackson, who is a senior, recorded one catch for 10 yards this season with Georgia.
Jackson spent one season at Georgia after transferring from the USC Trojans. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound receiver never established a large role within the Georgia offense.
Jackson primarily played special teams for Georgia. He served as a kickoff returner against Tennessee and Georgia Tech. Jackson, who appeared in three games with Georgia this season, has 47 career receptions for 508 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Jackson was unable to crack Georgia’s wide receiver rotation and put up career-low numbers with the Bulldogs. The senior should be able to redshirt since he played in only three games in 2024.
The transfer portal opens on Dec. 9 and will remain open through Dec. 28. Jackson joins cornerback Julian Humphrey as the first two Georgia players to announce their intentions to transfer.
Georgia football defensive back Major Burns has announced a decision to enter the transfer portal. Details here
Georgia sophomore defensive back Major Burns has entered the transfer portal. The former four-star recruit announced the decision in a Twitter post on Monday afternoon.
Burns was rated as the No. 11 safety in the 2020 recruiting class.
The Baton Rouge, La., native was selected to play in the 2020 Under Armor All-American game, which hosts the top high school prospects each year. In his one season for the Bulldogs, Burns saw action in six of 10 games and recorded five tackles with a career-best three stops versus Florida.
With Burns’ decision, Georgia football’s carousel at defensive back continues. Georgia had four defensive backs drafted to the NFL last weekend, including Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, Richard LeCounte and Mark Webb. And we can’t forget about Tyrique Stevenson, who transferred to Miami earlier this year.
That leaves quite a large hole in the secondary of a team who looks to compete for a national title in 2021. Georgia did add West Virginia corner Tykee Smith but the Bulldogs will have to rely on talented but inexperienced guys to help fill the void. Here are the Dawgs’ current options in the secondary headed into the season.
The Georgia Bulldogs have added former West Virginia defensive back Tykee Smith via the NCAA transfer portal.
The Georgia Bulldogs have added former West Virginia defensive back Tykee Smith via the NCAA transfer portal. Smith is a versatile defensive back, who plays safety and slot corner.
Tykee Smith will be immediately eligible and have multiple years of eligibility left. Smith has four career interceptions and was named PFF’s No. 5 returning defensive back in college football.
The former West Virginia star is reuniting with his old defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae in Athens. The pair helped West Virginia have the nation’s top pass defense in 2020.
Georgia football social media was very excited to add a talent transfer at a position of need:
UGA lands West Virginia DB transfer Tykee Smith! HUGE get for Lanning and the UGA secondary. Experience and leadership and a hell of a player is coming to Athens. #GoDawgs#CommitToTheGpic.twitter.com/3MW7nTgJro
