Watch: Darnell Washington takes field at Georgia’s pro day

Big 0 in action today in Athens…

Georgia tight end Darnell Washington is one of 19 participants at UGA’s annual pro day ahead of the NFL draft.

Washington walked away from the NFL combine two weeks ago as one of the top tight end prospects after an impressive showing of size and athleticism.

Washington clocked a 4.64 40-yard dash in Indianapolis, which is the fourth fastest by any tight end over 260 pounds since 2003.

There are questions around Washington’s actual size. The former five-star recruit measured in at 6-foot-7, 272 pounds today in Athens after weighing in at 6-foot-6, 264 pounds at the combine.

Watch: Stetson Bennett throws at Georgia’s pro day

Bennett goes to work at pro day…

Georgia is currently hosting its annual pro day in Athens, where NFL bound Bulldogs are showcasing their skills in front of pro representatives.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett looks to follow-up a solid performance at NFL combine. The two-time national champion ran a 4.67 40-yard dash and preformed well in throwing drills.

Bennett should be comfortable today at Georgia’s indoor facility throwing to teammates, a couple of former Bulldogs and his brother, Luke, a freshman walk-on wide receiver.

The workouts are live right now on SEC Network.

Georgia DL Jalen Carter not participating in NFL Combine workouts

Carter will workout at Georgia’s Pro Day on March 15…

The 2023 NFL Combine is upon us as approximately 300 prospects head to Indianapolis for meetings and workouts with NFL teams.

Georgia star defensive lineman Jalen Carter is one of 12 Bulldogs set to make the trip ahead of the 2023 NFL draft this spring.

Carter is considered as one of the marquee prospects that will content for the top overall pick. The All-American will not participate in workouts this week and will instead workout at Georgia’s Pro Day on March 15.

It’s not an unprecedented move for a player of Carter’s caliber to elect to forgo workouts in at the Combine in favor of performing on the field at their respective Pro Day.

Carter is currently ranked as the No. 1 prospect on ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper’s big board and was recently selected No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears in NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s Mock Draft 2.0.

The Eagles are adjusting and retooling their defensive personnel to properly fit Jonathan Gannon’s scheme.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are holding their pro day on Thursday and the Eagles defensive coordinator has a birds eye view of several top flight defenders.

The player for Gannon to watch was Penn State star safety Jaquan Brisker.

A freakish athlete that can do it all from the safety position, Brisker can cover out of the slot, play the run from the box, or hover as a deep safety.

Other players to watch were Arnold Ebikiete, a talented pass rusher.

Eagles to host Georgia DT Devonte Wyatt on top-30 predraft visit

#Eagles to host #Georgia DT #DevonteWyatt on top-30 pre #NFLDraft2022 visit

The official start to the NFL’s 2022 calendar year is upon us and as teams around the league doll out millions in new contracts, scouts and coaches around the league are preparing for the draft process.

With COVID-19 in the rearview for now, the predraft process has returned to it’s normal schedule and that means teams from around the league can host 30 of college football’s top prospects.

The Eagles can get to know a potential draft prospect and decipher medical information, but they are not permitted to physically work out the player during these visits. The first visit on the schedule is a big-named Georgia defensive tackle, but not the first player that comes to mind.

ESPN’s Michael Rothstein is reporting that Philadelphia will have a top-30 meeting with Devonte Wyatt.

In 2021, Wyatt was named to the coaches’ All-SEC 1st Team, starting 14 games with 39 total tackles, and 27 QB pressures.

The Eagles have Fletcher Cox on what could be the final year of his deal, along with Javon Hargrave and Milton Williams as well.

Updates from Georgia football’s pro day

The Georgia Bulldogs have an important pro day this year. What Georgia Bulldogs are performing well at the event?

The Georgia Bulldogs and college football programs across the country have more important pro days this year thanks to COVID-19. There’s no NFL combine, so this will be NFL scouts’ best opportunity to gather information on their top targets from the University of Georgia.

A few Georgia Bulldogs have received official measurements. The results are notable for underclassmen who did not get measured at the Senior Bowl.

NFL Network draft expert Daniel Jeremiah received some 40-yard dash times from a scout. He mentions the best 40-yard dash times for major University of Georgia NFL draft prospects including Azeez Ojulari (4.6) and Tyson Campbell (4.4). Eric Stokes (4.3) turns in yet another impressive time:

Marc Weiszer (Athens Banner-Herald) named several more 40-yard dash times via his Twitter account. DJ Daniel, Monty Rice, and Ben Cleveland all ran impressive times in addition to those mentioned above.

Georgia offensive guard Ben Cleveland did not break the NFL combine record for the bench press. 30 reps of 225 pounds will still boost his NFL draft stock.

A pair of former Georgia Bulldogs worked out too. David Marshall and Tyler Simmons are both looking to find an NFL home. The duo took advantage of the opportunity to showcase their talents at Georgia’s pro day.

Which Georgia football alumni are most affected by pro day cancellation

For several recently departed Bulldogs, it’s going to be a bit more difficult finding opportunities to prove what they want to prove.

This week, the SEC cancelled all remaining spring competitions amid COVID-19 concerns. In their official announcement, the plans to halt play include abandoning spring football scrimmages and each school’s pro day.

Pro days are the last setting in which college football standouts perform drills before a plethora of NFL coaches and scouts prior to the NFL Draft.

If a player wasn’t invited to the NFL scouting combine or performed less-than-ideally at the combine, this is typically their last chance to turn heads and earn a drafted rookie contract instead of going undrafted and having a lower-dollar contract with far fewer guarantees.

For several recently departed Georgia Bulldogs, it’s going to be a bit more difficult finding opportunities to prove what they want to prove.

Tyler Clark, defensive tackle:

Clark has been projected as a late-round pick on some of the many mock drafts floating around the internet. The recent graduate out of Americus considered declaring for last year’s NFL draft but chose to return to Athens following a lower-than-preferred draft grade. In his senior season, he recorded a career high in tackles for loss and tied his career high in sacks.

Former Georgia defensive tackle and NFL veteran Toby Johnson took to twitter to voice his displeasure over Clark’s omission from the NFL Combine.

Tyler Clark will certainly show up on a professional roster at some point before the ensuing NFL season, but the cancellation of pro day isn’t doing his career any long-term favors.

Jake Fromm, quarterback:

Georgia’s golden boy is one of three quarterbacks to go undefeated against Florida in more than three starts (including John Rauch, Buck Belue), but many Georgia faithful were surprised he chose not to go for a perfect 4-0 record against the reptiles. Fromm delved into what went behind that decision in the days preceding his performance the NFL Combine.

The problem for Fromm was that the aforementioned performance ended up being pedestrian.

Taking reps after former teammate Jacob Eason, an eventual Washington transfer for whom he took over in the 2017 season opener following an Eason leg injury, Fromm was decidedly the less impressive quarterback (at least in that specific day’s drills) between the two.

Fromm’s last season in Athens was the least productive of his three total campaigns. The judgment to declare early made sense as his draft stock has still been high and it’s easy to see his final collegiate season as a statistical outlier under a new quarterbacks coach.

Looking forward to a league that places value on quarterbacks ahead of almost every other positions, the cerebral Jake Fromm is sure to end up on a roster and still projects as draft pick. If he had received the opportunity to participate in a pro day, however, he could solidify himself as a second-day pick (draft rounds two through four) as opposed to a third-day selection (rounds five through seven) or even as an undrafted free agent.

Tae Crowder, inside linebacker:

Tae Crowder’s path to the University of Georgia was a meandering one.

Crowder was a last-minute addition to the Dawgs’ 2015 signing class, receiving his scholarship offer the morning before National Signing Day. He hadn’t taken an official visit. He spent no time in personal meetings with Georgia coaches. Yet he committed on the spot.

“It was always my dream to play at the University of Georgia,” Crowder told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2015.

As Harris County’s offensive player of the year during his senior season, Crowder came to Athens as a dual receiver and running back.

He was quickly moved to inside linebacker, and, after redshirting his first year in Athens, spent another year fine-tuning his linebacking skills before spending three years starting, recording 122 tackles, and grabbing two takeaways along the way(s).

Considering his history of position changes and a lack of invitation to the NFL Combine, Crowder loses a lot of face time prior to the draft.
