Jets very active on Thursday Pro-Day circuit with stops at Notre Dame and others

The New York Jets were very active at several Pro-Days on Thursday. Here are the Pro-Days they attended and who they had their eyes on.

The college Pro-Day circuit is in full swing and the New York Jets were active on Thursday, with representatives at several different locations, according to Tony Pauline.

Most notably, the Jets were on hand at Notre Dame’s Pro-Day, with what I’m guessing is most of their attention on offensive tackle Joe Alt. According to Pauline, Alt was “sensational” going through drills. Teams were impressed with his movement ability, with Pauline using the words flexible, smooth, and bendy to describe his performance.

In what is an incredibly deep offensive tackle class, Alt is widely considered to be the best of the bunch. In order for Alt to be available at pick 10, it may take some combination of four quarterbacks and three receivers being taken beforehand, and perhaps even one team being higher on Taliese Fuaga. In mock drafts, Alt is a popular pick for the Chargers at five and the Titans at seven.

Alt has excellent size and has tested very well. Over the past two seasons, he has surrendered only sack and 13 combined pressures, while being one of PFF’s highest graded pass-blockers and run-blockers at the position.

Although the Jets added Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses this offseason at tackle, Alt is someone who could compete right away for playing time.

Along with Alt, quarterback Sam Hartman, running back Audric Estime, cornerback Cam Hart, and linebacker Marist Liufau were some of the other participants at Notre Dame’s Pro-Day.

In addition to Notre Dame, UAB had its Pro-Day Thursday and the Jets had a representative(s) in person to “solely” see wide receiver Tejhaun Palmer and spent “extensive” time with him, as Pauline put it.

The 6-2 – 210 pound Palmer plays both out wide and in the slot, and was a playmaking presence this past season. He finished the 2023 season catching 73 percent of his 64 targets for 861 yards and at an impressive 18.3 yards per catch. He also scored seven touchdowns.

Building out their wide receiver depth, both for 2024 and beyond, is something that should continue to be on Joe Douglas’ radar.

Lastly, Holy Cross had held its Pro-Day with many teams on hand to see guard CJ Hanson, an NFL Combine invitee, who put together an impressive performance in Indianapolis. Hanson spent his entire college career at right guard, and this past season didn’t surrender a sack and gave up only eight total pressures.

Another player of interest to the Jets was New Hampshire’s Dylan Laube, who spent 20 minutes, according to Pauline, fielding punts. Laube had 37 career punt return attempts in college, averaging 11.6 yards per return with two touchdowns.

Laube is a do-it-all running back, able to impact the game as a ball carrier, pass-catcher, and of course, on special teams. Pauline mentions that Laube had a “solid” performance at the Senior Bowl and has “cemented” himself has a Day 3 selection. The Jets’ Dan Shamash was in attendance.

In the upcoming draft, the Jets have eight picks in total, with only two in the top 100. According to Tankathon, the Jets rank 26th in total draft capital value.

Jets send five club reps to Oregon Pro Day Tuesday

The Jets will have several team reps on site for the Oregon Pro Day on Tuesday.

The New York Jets are making their presence felt in Eugene, Oregon on Tuesday as the team sent five club members to Oregon Pro Day.

Per Jim Nagy of the Senior Bowl, the Jets will be helping position workouts at quarterback, wide receiver, defensive line and defensive back.

While it’s unlikely the Jets land quarterback Bo Nix in the draft, wide receiver Troy Franklin, running back Bucky Irving, offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson, defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus and defensive backs Khyree Jackson and Evan Williams could very well be on their boards.

This comes on the heels of the Jets having a presence in Corvallis, Oregon Monday for Oregon State’s Pro Day, namely offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga, a very strong candidate to be the selection at No. 10 for the Jets.

Trio of top QB prospects have pro days this week

C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and Will Levis have their pro days this week.

The Indianapolis Colts have been hard at work during free agency while the scouting department has been traveling the country looking for the best prospects in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft.

This week will have a different tune for the Colts as three of the top four quarterback prospects will have their pro days. Which executives from the Colts organization will attend these pro days remains to be seen, but it’s a good bet that they will have some high-ranking officials in attendance.

It starts Wednesday with C.J. Stroud at Ohio State’s pro day, followed up by Bryce Young at Alabama on Thursday and Will Levis at Kentucky on Friday.

Since Stroud and Levis both threw at the NFL combine, it isn’t clear if they will be participating in the drills. Young did not throw at the combine, and it still remains to be seen if he will be throwing this week.

Regardless, the Colts, who currently hold the No. 4 overall pick, will likely be there to get another look at these prospects. It’s expected the Colts will take a quarterback in the first round and these three, along with Florida’s Anthony Richardson, are expected to be the top prospects in the class.

We’ll see if any updates come out regarding the Colts’ attendance at these pro days, but it will be something to watch as the week progresses.

Pro Day roundup: Jaguars well-represented at South Carolina workout

The Jaguars are making the pro day rounds, which has included stops at South Carolina, Texas, and Clemson.

Teams across the NFL are dishing out big money to acquire free agents, but the Jacksonville Jaguars have been watching from the sideline.

After weeks of reports that the Jaguars are focusing on building through the 2023 NFL Draft following their 2022 spending spree, those prognostications have come to fruition. Through the first 24 hours of the legal tampering period, Jacksonville reached no agreements with any pending free agents and watched as right tackle Jawaan Taylor and tight end Chris Manhertz found deals elsewhere.

Much of the Jaguars’ attention was instead in Columbia, S.C. where the South Carolina Gamecocks held their pro day. Reportedly in attendance for the workout were the team’s defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend and defensive line coach Brentson Buckner.

South Carolina has one of the top cornerback prospects in Cam Smith as well as cornerback Darius Rush, who may be a Day 2 selection. The Gamecocks also have defensive tackle Zacch Pickens, who was put through his Monday workout by Buckner.

Pickens measured in at 6’4, 291 pounds at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. He was one of six defensive tackles at the event to finish his 40-yard dash in under 4.9 seconds and one of four to eclipse 30 inches in the vertical jump.

Other pro days:

  • The Jaguars were one of two teams (along with the Buccaneers) present at the Southeastern University Pro Day, according to running back Bryan Bell. The back was a four-time All-Conference selection in the NAIA’s Sun Conference.
  • The Jaguars were one of six teams spotted at the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks Pro Day. The top prospect to watch was Mac Hippenhammer, a former Penn State receiver who twice earned All-MAC honors after transferring in 2020.
  • All 32 teams were reportedly in attendance at the Texas Pro Day. The headliner, running back Bijan Robinson, didn’t participate but Texas also has defensive lineman Moro Ojomo and running back Roschon Johnson among the other notables.
  • The Jaguars were among 13 teams at the UNLV Pro Day last week where all eyes were on linebackers Adam Plant Jr. and Austin Ajake.
  • All 32 teams were in attendance at the Clemson Pro Day on Tuesday where pass rusher Myles Murphy, defensive lineman Bryan Bresee, and linebacker Trenton Simpson are all hoping to be first-round selections.

Chiefs scouts attend Texas, Purdue, UNLV and Columbia pro days

#Chiefs scouts have been in attendance for Texas, Purdue, UNLV and Columbia pro days thus far.

It’s officially pro day season for the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the NFL.

Scouts hit the road to get a final look at all the draft-eligible players ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. They’ll hone in on those players who weren’t participants in All-Star games or at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, gathering information to help them make the best decisions possible in April’s draft and in undrafted free agency. They’ll also look to fill in the blanks on those players who didn’t work out in full at the combine.

With several key pro days kicking off earlier this week, here’s a look at those that we’ve confirmed the Chiefs were in attendance for:

2023 NFL draft: Pro Day schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule for the 2023 college pro days.

Now that the combine has concluded, the pre-draft focus shifts to pro days, where players not invited to the combine conduct their workouts to prove they’re just as worthy of becoming an NFL player.

Combine invites also round out their testing or hang around to meet with teams. Often, a staff’s attendance points you in the general direction of their thoughts heading into April’s draft.

Here’s the full schedule of pro days set to happen, starting on Tuesday, March 7.
