Georgia routed by Seton Hall, ending NIT run

The Georgia Bulldogs run to the NIT semifinals ended Tuesday night with a defeat to the Seton Hall Pirates.

The Georgia Bulldogs run to the National Invitational Tournament semifinals ended Tuesday night in Indianapolis in an 84-67 loss to the Seton Hall Pirates. This loss ends head coach Mike White’s second season with a final record of 20-17, a slight improvement on last season’s 16-16 finish.

The Pirates got off to a hot start, while the Bulldogs struggled to find any rhythm offensively, leading to a halftime score of 42-25 in favor of Seton Hall. The two teams would score an even 42 in the second half, but Georgia never cut the lead to fewer than 11 points.

Silas Demary Jr. was the Bulldogs leading scorer, with 19 points in addition to four assists and three rebounds. The Dawgs as a team shot only 38.5% from the field and 19.2% from three, while the Pirates managed to shoot 47.1% and 40% respectively and also outrebounded the Dawgs 45 to 32.

Seton Hall will advance to the NIT final against the Indiana State Sycamores, while Georgia will begin to prepare for the 2024-2025 season.

Former Georgia Bulldogs star plans to enter the transfer portal after spending the 2023-2024 season with Auburn

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Johnson has played the past three seasons with the Auburn Tigers.

Johnson transferred to Auburn after playing the 2020-2021 season with Georgia. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard has averaged less points per game in every season after averaging 13.5 points as a freshman at Georgia. In 2023-2024. Johnson averaged 7.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.7 minutes per game for Auburn.

Johnson is from Atlanta, Georgia, and is a former four-star recruit from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. This year, Johnson and Auburn made the NCAA Tournament after winning the SEC Tournament. However, Auburn’s season took a disappointing turn in the NCAA Tournament as the Tigers fell to Yale in their opening game.

It will be interesting to see where K.D. Johnson transfers to. Johnson has averaged at least one steal per game in all four of his years playing college basketball.

Georgia basketball Twitter was hyped up following the Bulldogs’ big win over Kentucky

The Georgia Bulldogs knocked off the Kentucky Wildcats in a 75-68 win in Athens. Georgia improves to 15-10 overall and 5-7 in SEC play.

Head coach Mike White and Georgia basketball snapped a three game losing streak. The Bulldogs had lost six of seven entering Saturday’s game against Kentucky.

The road defeat is a tough loss for head coach John Calipari and Kentucky. The Wildcats fall to 16-9 overall and 7-5 in the SEC. Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament odds took a serious hit. The Wildcats were on the bubble entering Saturday. However, there’s still a lot of basketball left to be played.

Georgia’s Justin Hill came up with some big plays down the stretch for the Dawgs. Hill finished with 15 points and six assists. Kario Oquendo scored 21 points to lead Georgia. Kentucky forward Oscar Tshiebwe had 20 points, 14 boards, and four blocks in the Wildcats’ defeat. Additionally, Georgia’s Terry Roberts returned from injury.

Georgia basketball’s K.D. Johnson transfers to Auburn

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson has transferred within the SEC to play basketball with the Auburn Tigers.

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson has transferred to the Auburn Tigers. He will be immediately eligible. Johnson was named to the coaches’ SEC All-Freshman team for his efforts throughout the 2020-2021 college basketball season.

The rising sophomore was Georgia’s second-leading scorer at 13.6 points per game. The Bulldogs will miss his scoring ability.

Georgia and Auburn both struggled last season. The Bulldogs finished the year 14-12. The Tigers went 13-14. Both teams finished with 7-11 records in SEC play.

K.D. Johnson is from Atlanta, Georgia and is a former four-star recruit from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has several other incoming transfers including: Walker Kessler (UNC), Desi Sills (Arkansas), and more. The Tigers will look to return to the NCAA Tournament once again in 2022.

Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards named Western Conference Rookie of the Month

Former Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards, the No. 1 pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA Draft, has earned rookie honors.

Former Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, the No.1 pick of the 2020. NBA Draft, was a man on a mission during the month of March.

After leading all rookies with 24.2 points per game in March to go along with 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals over 13 games, the Minnesota Timberwolves rising star was named the Western Conference’s Player of the Month.

Edwards’ 24.2 points per game in March rank third all-time in a calendar month by a player under 20 in NBA history. He trailed only Carmelo Anthony (27.1) and LeBron James (26.3) (min. 10 games).

He was also the only rookie to average over 20 points last month. Additionally, he led all rookies in total points (314), made field goals (116), total three-pointers (34) and minutes per game (35.1).

Edwards has recorded a steal in every game since February 24, putting him at 16 consecutive games with at least one tally in the stat column. That’s the longest active streak in the league.

Anthony Edwards becomes third youngest with 40+ points in NBA history

Former Georgia basketball G Anthony Edwards joins elite company, becoming third youngest in NBA history to score 40+ points.

Former Georgia basketball guard Anthony Edwards continued his incredible rookie season in the NBA last night with a cold-blooded 42 point career-high performance.

Edwards finished his night on 15/31 shooting and added another 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in the Timberwolves 123 – 119 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Complimenting Edwards’ big night was Minnesota’s center Karl-Anthony Towns, who had 41 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists himself.

Edwards is now the third youngest player in NBA history to score 40+ points in a game.  The only younger players to reach the mark? Kevin Durant and Lebron James.

I’d say Edwards looks quite comfortable in the league, keeping himself in the company of some all-time greats.

The T-Wolves are now 10-31 and sit in last place in the Western Conference.  Edwards currently leads all rookies in points-per-game with 16.8.

Anthony Edwards scores career-high 34 points, has message for doubters

Former Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards put on a career-high performance, scoring 34 points in a Minnesota Timberwolves victory.

Former Georgia basketball superstar Anthony Edwards set another career-high in points this Sunday night, dropping his new best of 34 in a Minnesota Timberwolves 114 – 112 win over the Portland Trailblazers.

The game stayed close for its entirety, the biggest lead for either team in the first three quarters being just six points.  In the fourth quarter Edwards had a collision with Trailblazers center Enes Kanter which caused him to miss some time.  He then checked in and went off, going for 13 points in the fourth including an explosive dunk to give Minnesota a 10-point lead.

Edwards has now scored at least 19 points in his last seven games, beginning to silence the doubters who believe the T-wolves should’ve taken LaMelo Ball with the first pick.

“To talk about who they should have took No. 1, they took me. It’s over. It’s nothing to talk about. On to the next. We’re trying to win basketball games at this point. Whoever is still talking about that, they can just kick rocks, I guess.”

This is what last year’s No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft had to say when talking to reporters about the comparisons to him and Ball.

The Timberwolves are now 2-6 under new coach Chris Finch and have won two of their past three games.  The grass is starting to turn greener in Minnesota, and it all starts with the spark that is Anthony Edwards.

Georgia basketball’s K.D. Johnson named to SEC All-Freshman team

Georgia guard K.D. Johnson was named to the coaches’ SEC All-Freshman team today.

The freshman is the Bulldogs second-leading scorer at 13.6 points per game behind sophomore guard Sahvir Wheeler, who also received league honors. Wheeler was named second-team All-SEC after averaging 14 points per game and leading the league in assists per game (7.2).

Johnson, from Atlanta, Ga., signed with the Bulldogs as a four-star recruit from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., in the Bulldogs No. 33 ranked recruiting class of 2020.

Johnson only played 15 games, but was an absolute firecracker for the Bulldogs and recorded the most 20-point game performances in the SEC this season, including a 24-point game versus No. 8 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

It’s an honor and I’m very happy that I made the team, but I’m focused on the team and the game that’s ahead of us on Thursday,” Johnson said. “I’m excited about the award, but I’m more excited about the run we’re about to try to go on to get to ‘March Madness.’ We’re just taking it one game at a time.”

Johnson and the Bulldogs are the 10th seed in the 2021 SEC Tournament and are set to face seventh-seeded Missouri on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Georgia upset then No. 20 Missouri 80-70 on Feb. 16 in Athens.

Georgia basketball drops season finale to No. 8 Alabama 89-79

Georgia heads to the postseason after a season finale loss to No. 8 Alabama 89-79 . Details and more here.

Georgia basketball finishes the season with a 14-11 record (7-11 in the SEC) with Saturday’s 89-79 loss at home to No. 8 Alabama.

The 2021 SEC regular-season champions beat the Bulldogs 115-82 on Feb. 13 in Tuscaloosa, but Georgia played much better today in Athens, even leading 36-30 at halftime before being outscored 59-43 in the second half.

Georgia was led by sophomore guard Sahvir Wheeler, who finished with 18 points in 38 minutes and added 10 assists, extending the single-season UGA record for assists in a season to 180.

Georgia sophomore forward Toumani Camara added 13 points and 7 rebounds and freshman guard K.D. Johnson was the only other Bulldog to score in double digits with a 16-point performance off the bench.

Four Alabama starters scored in double-digits. Senior guard John Petty Jr. led the Crimson Tide with 15 points and added 7 rebounds and sophomore guard Jaden Shackleford was Alabama’s second-leading scorer, finishing with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

Georgia may have been able to hang with Alabama a bit longer if it weren’t for the Bulldogs’ free throw shooting woes. UGA shot just 13 of 23 from the line.

With the loss today, Georgia has secured the 10th seed in the SEC tournament and will play the 7th seed on Thursday at 7 p.m. against an unnamed team.

Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards struggles in Timberwolves loss

Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards did not have his best game against the Bucks.

After going viral earlier this week thanks to a massive dunk, which was followed with a hilarious postgame interview, former Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards is beginning to look like he was worthy of being the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Last night, though, in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Edwards struggled. He shot just 3/13 (3/8 3PT) and had 4 turnovers while scoring just 9 points in 28 minutes. Minnesota would lose the game 139-112.

The Timberwolves rookie has had a solid first year, posting an average of 4.1 points per game, but he had his best showing to date last week against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Versus Los Angeles, Edwards put up 28 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal while shooting 5/10 from deep.
