Photos: Georgia football’s last game against Samford in 2017

Nick Chubb, Jake Fromm, and UGA football defeated the Samford Bulldogs 42-14 during the 2017 football season

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Samford Bulldogs 42-14 during the 2017 football season. Georgia was coming off an emotional victory at Notre Dame.

Kirby Smart and Georgia football went on to win the Rose Bowl and the SEC championship in the 2017 season. The Bulldogs lost in the national championship to Alabama, but Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, who was a scout team quarterback for UGA in 2017, helped Georgia avenge that defeat in the 2021 national championship.

Georgia football has only played Samford once in school history. Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm threw only 13 passes in Georgia’s victory. However, Fromm connected on three touchdowns passes. Georgia ran the ball 54 times in the win. Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Todd Monken are much more willing to pass the ball in 2022.

Georgia running back Nick Chubb ran for 131 yards and scored two touchdowns. Linebacker Roquan Smith finished with six tackles. Fellow linebacker Lorenzo Carter recorded two sacks in Georgia’s win at home.

The 2017 edition of Samford was no cupcake. The Bulldogs’ starting quarterback, Devlin Hodges, started six NFL games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019.

Here’s photos from Georgia’s 2017 win over Samford:
