UGA football player card: OL Owen Condon

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Owen Condon has seen action in four games throughout his career at UGA.

Owen Condon, Offensive Line (#75):

Class: Redshirt Sophomore

Height: 6-7

Weight: 310 pounds

Hometown: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

High School: Bishop McGuinness High School

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Owen Condon came to the University of Georgia as a three-star recruit. Condon redshirted as a freshman in 2018. He played in only one game last season, against Arkansas State. He saw 15 snaps n that contest.

Condon will compete with Xavier Truss, Jamaree Salyer, Warren Ericson, Justin Shaffer, Warren McClendon, Broderick Jones, and more for playing time. Condon is projected to be a depth player next season, but don’t count him out. He’s got great size at six-foot-seven and Georgia lost several starters along the offensive front from last season.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke isn’t short on talent despite losing three players to the 2020 NFL Draft. Condon did pick up some experience as a freshman, where he played in three games.

Condon signed with the Dawgs back in 2017:

UGA football player card: OL Ben Cleveland

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Ben Cleveland is among the most experienced returning members of UGA’s talented offensive front.

Ben Cleveland, Offensive Line (#74):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-6

Weight: 335 pounds

Hometown: Toccoa, Georgia

High School: Stephens County High School

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Ben Cleveland is among the most experienced returning members of UGA’s talented offensive front. Cleveland has played in 36 total games over his three seasons in Georgia. Cleveland redshirted as a freshman back in 2016. Cleveland started at right guard in seven games last season.

Cleveland will be the strongest player on Georgia’s team next season. He’s a player to watch at the 2021 NFL Combine. Cleveland is a freak athlete and will be worth watching on the bench press, where he should crush it.

Cleveland will compete with Xavier Truss, Jamaree Salyer, Warren Ericson, Justin Shaffer, Warren McClendon, Broderick Jones, and more for a starting role in 2020. Fans should expect Cleveland to be a starter next season. The main question is where?

Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke isn’t short on talent despite losing three players to the 2020 NFL Draft. Cleveland will help Georgia fill in the experience lost from last season. He missed the 2020 Sugar Bowl against Baylor due to academic issues, but he gave the Dawgs a big boost with his return for his senior season.

UGA football player card: OL Xavier Truss

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Xavier Truss came to Athens all the way from Rhode Island.

Xavier Truss, Offensive Line (#73):

Class: Redshirt freshman

Height: 6-7

Weight: 330 pounds

Hometown: Warwick, Rhode Island

High School: Bishop Hendricken High School

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Xavier Truss came to Athens all the way from Warwick, Rhode Island. Truss was the state’s top recruit in his class as a four-star offensive tackle.

Truss will look to earn more playing time next season. He’ll face talented recruits in competition along the offensive line, but he could end up as a starter at offensive tackle. Truss will compete with the likes of Ben Cleveland, Jamaree Salyer, Warren Ericson, Justin Shaffer, Warren McClendon, Broderick Jones, and more for a starting role in 2020.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke isn’t short on talent despite losing three players to the 2020 NFL Draft. Truss played in three games last season, but not against the Baylor Bears, which is interesting because the Dawgs were without their top offensive tackles for that contest.

Here’s how Truss committed to UGA:

UGA football player card: OL Warren McClendon

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Warren McClendon played in four games as a freshman last season

Warren McClendon, Offensive Line (#70):

Class: Redshirt freshman

Height: 6-4

Weight: 320 pounds

Hometown: Brunswick, Georgia

High School: Brunswick High School

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Warren McClendon played in four games as a freshman last season, so he was able to redshirt. McClendon came to the University of Georgia from Brunswick High School.

The talented offensive tackle had several ties to Georgia before coming to Athens. His cousin, Bryan McClendon, was an assistant and interim coach at Georgia before heading to Oregon this past offseason. His uncle, Willie, was an All-SEC running back at Georgia in the late 1970s.

McClendon has a serious chance to earn playing time next season. He’ll face stout competition along the offensive line, but he could end up as a starter. McClendon is primarily considered a tackle, but could additionally be used as an offensive guard. He’ll compete with the likes of Ben Cleveland, Jamaree Salyer, Warren Ericson, Justin Shaffer, Xavier Truss, Broderick Jones, and more for a starting role in 2020.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke isn’t short on talent despite losing three players to the 2020 NFL Draft.

UGA ranked among SEC’s top offensive lines

The Georgia Bulldogs are projected to have one of the top offensive lines in the SEC next season.

The Georgia Bulldogs are projected to have one of the top offensive lines in the SEC next season. Georgia lost a lot of talent along the offensive front in the 2020 NFL Draft. Georgia’s Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson both ended up as first round picks. Additionally, Solomon Kindley was selected as the 111th pick of the Draft.

That’s not all that the University of Georgia offensive front has endured this offseason. The Dawgs also lost offensive line coach Sam Pittman, who is now the head coach at Arkansas. Georgia lost Cade Mays to the transfer portal as well. Mays is now a key lineman for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Despite all the loses, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are reloading along the offensive trenches. Smart found an elite offensive line coach in Matt Luke, the former head coach at Ole Miss. Georgia’s interior line returns Ben Cleveland, a well-seasoned veteran, elite center Trey Hill, and Justin Shaffer.

Things will get interesting at offensive tackle, where some elite 2020 recruits (Broderick Jones and Tate Ratledge) will compete with Xavier Truss, Warren McClendon, and Jamaree Salyer for playing time. Despite the rebuild, ESPN and SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic ranked Georgia’s offensive front among the best in the SEC:

Will Georgia’s reconstructed offensive line be able to compete with the likes of Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida? The Dawgs face off against each of the top offensive lines next season.

Isaiah Wilson on future Georgia O-Line: ‘I can’t wait to watch them wake you up’

Georgia football OT Isaiah Wilson spoke on the 2020 UGA offensive line while at the NFL Combine.

Georgia football had the nation’s best offensive line in the country during the 2019 season, with three of last year’s starters expected to hear their name called at the NFL Draft.

From Georgia’s 2019 offensive line, the Dawgs lost starters Andrew Thomas,  Solomon Kindley and Isaiah Wilson to the draft. Additionally, Cade Mays, who was a starter last year and was viewed as the centerpiece to Georgia’s future o-lines, left to become a Tennessee Vol.

And then there’s Sam Pittman, Georgia’s offensive line coach who left to become head coach at Arkansas.

There were a few days there where Georgia fans went into panic-mode, not sure what the future held for the Bulldogs’ offensive line.

But Smart was able to replace Pittman with Matt Luke, who most recently held the position of head coach at Ole Miss. That settled Georgia fans’ nerves.

But there’s no getting around the fact that Georgia lost four starters from last year’s line. I don’t care how good your backups are or how much depth you have, that’s a tough obstacle to hurdle.

No, next year’s line will not be as good as 2019’s, but it should still be one of the elite units in the SEC and in the country in 2020.

Thankfully, before Pittman left for Arkansas, he built something that we call “The Great Wall of Georgia.”

So, yes, there are a ton of talented blockers waiting on the depth chart for their chance to showcase their talents.

There’s still Trey Hill, Ben Cleveland, Jamaree Salyer, Justin Shaffer, Warren Erickson, Xavier Truss, Warren McClendon, Clay Webb and Owen Condon returning to the program.

And to make things even better for Georgia, Kirby Smart just landed the nation’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class that included 5-star offensive tackle Broderick Jones and two other 4-star linemen.

The panic-level in Athens has dropped significantly since the news of the mass exodus on the line.

And one player who left the program to head to the NFL, two year starter at right tackle Isaiah Wilson, has no doubt that Georgia’s offensive line in 2020 will be one of the premiere groups in the country.

“If you’re sleeping on them, then they’re going to wake you up,” Wilson said at the combine. “And I can’t wait to watch them wake you up.”

Next year, expect Hill, Salyer and Cleveland to lead the Georgia line.

And speaking on Hill and Salyer, Wilson says Georgia is in good hands.

“They’re young kids but they work so hard,” Kindley said, speaking of Salyer and Hill. “They’re leaders and if you go around them, they have great character. If you go around them, you’d think they’re one of us.

“We think they could come out this year because of the way they walk and carry themselves.”

We’ll have to wait and see what Luke is able to do with Georgia’s talented group of linemen, but based on who is returning and how the Dawgs have recruited, UGA should be just fine.
