Bleacher Report names one player Ravens should consider trading ahead of 2022 season

Bleacher Report named one player that the Ravens should consider trading ahead of the 2022 season

The Baltimore Ravens have had great talent in their secondary over the course of their franchise history. From all of the players they’ve had such as Ed Reed, Chris McAlister and so many others, the team has been known to find quality playmakers at both the cornerback and safety positions.

In an article published by Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report, he named one player each NFL team should consider trading before the 2022 season. When it came to Baltimore, Sobleski believed the team should consider trading away safety Chuck Clark. When explaining why, Sobleski said the team’s No. 14 overall draft pick in 2022, safety Kyle Hamilton, will get quite a few snaps on multiple different coverage packages in the secondary.

“But the team did draft Kyle Hamilton when he unexpectedly fell to this year’s 14th overall pick. Hamilton is a defensive chesspiece who’s capable of playing all over the field. The Ravens’ defensive staff will find ways to get him snaps. He may receive multiple big nickel looks with Clark and Marcus Williams also on the field.”

While Hamilton can’t guard the secondary alone from the safety position, Baltimore signed former New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Williams in free agency, who is expected to receive a lot of playing time. With younger players like safeties Brandon Stephens and Geno Stone looking to find a way in the rotation, it may not be out of question for the team to trade away Clark, even though head coach John Harbaugh told reporters he expected Clark to be on the team during the 2022 season.

Whatever the Ravens decide to do with Clark this season, he has been a key contributor in the secondary for years. If the safety finds himself on another club in 2022, he will be missed by many in the Baltimore organization both on and off of the field.

Former Hawkeye and current NFL safety Micah Hyde calls Iowa a ‘cheat code’ to the NFL

Former Iowa Hawkeye and current Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde said that “going to Iowa was a cheat code” to the NFL.

The Iowa Hawkeyes just received some of the highest praise possible from one of their own currently starting in the NFL. While on the Pat McAfee Show, Buffalo Bills safety [autotag]Micah Hyde[/autotag] was asked about what Iowa did to prepare him to get to the NFL. His answer was clear cut.

“Iowa is an NFL program fresh out of high school. You come in your freshman year with Coach Ferentz and I had Coach Parker as my position coach back then so I saw him all day every day. They get you ready for the NFL,” Hyde said to McAfee.

What Hyde says is no exaggeration. Iowa is becoming one of the premier schools that is continuously sending defensive backs to the NFL that are not only latching onto a team but becoming contributors. Right now, there are 10 former Iowa Hawkeyes safeties or cornerbacks calling NFL teams home.

Dane Belton, Jake Gervase, Matt Hankins, Amani Hooker, Micah Hyde, Desmond King II, Jack Koerner, Greg Mabin, Michael Ojemudia, and Geno Stone are all products of the Hawkeyes’ program.

That is just the list of former Iowa players roaming NFL secondaries. Overall, Iowa has 48 players currently in the NFL. That is good enough for the ninth-most players in the NFL from all colleges.

Hyde went on to provide the best recruiting pitch of all later on in the interview. His statement resonates and the reaction of the show members tell you everything about just how powerful what he said was.

“Going to Iowa was definitely a cheat code and that’s why they produce so many NFL players because Coach Ferentz gets you ready,” Hyde said.

The players in the NFL speak for itself. Their production at Iowa last year speaks for itself as the Hawkeyes led the nation in interceptions with 25. The NFL bloodline is likely to continue with returning All-American [autotag]Riley Moss[/autotag] looking to become the next Hawkeye to make the jump. The recruiting is showing as Iowa landed five-star safety recruit [autotag]Xavier Nwankpa[/autotag].

The Iowa Hawkeyes continue to grow their reputation for development. They are now seeing that development turn into consistently winning on the field, a high-powered recruiting tool, and evidence that they will give their guys the best chance to make it to the NFL.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh discusses Baltimore’s depth at safety

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh discussed the team’s depth at the safety position during rookie minicamp

The Baltimore Ravens drafted multiple talented prospects below their projected draft spots and maintained their “best player available” mentality when it came to selecting players. One of Baltimore’s first-round picks was safety Kyle Hamilton out of Notre Dame. Hamilton was projected to go within the first 10 selections, but fell to the Ravens at No. 14. His position wasn’t one that was featured on many mock drafts as a team need, especially with the signing of Marcus Williams in free agency to go along with longtime Baltimore safety Chuck Clark.

The Ravens hosted their 2022 rookie minicamp over the weekend, where the first-year players showcased their skills and began getting acclimated to playing schemes at the NFL level. When speaking with the media during day two of rookie minicamp, Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh discussed the team’s depth at the safety position.

“We’re very deep at safety. We were deep at safety before, and then you add a guy like Kyle [Hamilton] and then the depth explodes in your face. It’s like, man, the depth chart is full with really good players. We know all about the guys that are playing back there. Chuck [Clark], we know about Chuck. You guys have seen Chuck; he’s one of the best safeties in football, in my opinion. Marcus [Williams], obviously, was a high-price free agent that we were pleased to get. After that, Tony Jefferson … Tony Jefferson can play football. Geno Stone is a really good, young safety. Brandon Stephens who started last year at safety for us, he also has corner flexibility. With all of those safeties, he’s probably going to be moving to corner a little bit and playing, but he can play all the spots. So, there’s flexibility there. I’m really happy with that group.”

Not only are the Ravens deep at safety, the players they have at the position are known playmakers. Hamilton now joins a group that includes Clark, Williams, Brandon Stephens, Tony Jefferson II, Ar’Darius Washington and Geno Stone. Baltimore has plenty of options to make their secondary one of the best in all of football, especially with how much depth they have from top to bottom.

Stone was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 draft by the Ravens, and has acted as safety depth for the team over his first two years as a professional. He’s totaled 21 tackles and one interception in 17 NFL games.

Ravens activate seven players from Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Ravens activated seven players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens have seen COVID-19 make its way through their locker room over the last few weeks. The team has had to place many players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, causing them to miss one or multiple games.

Despite losing so many pieces for varying amounts of time, Baltimore announced some good news on Wednesday, as they activated seven total players from the Resrve/COVID-19 list in outside linebackers Justin Houston and Tyus Bowser, inside linebackers Chris Board and Kristian Welch, safety Geno Stone, practice squad quarterback Chris Streveler and practice squad offensive tackle David Sharpe.

It’s

The Ravens getting back so many players is a big deal. Houston and Bowser are two of the team’s best pass rushing options, while stone provides depth in the secondary. Board and Welch are key on special teams, while Streveler and Sharpe are important depth pieces. As the week goes on, hopefully Baltimore can get the rest of the players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list back as well.

Ravens running out of players, place five on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Ravens continue to be hit hard by COVID, as they placed five more players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens continue to be hit hard by COVID-19 as they head into a pivotal Week 16 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. It is now a concern as to if Baltimore will even have enough players to play on Sunday with all of the contributors they’ve lost due to injuries and the players who have been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

On Wednesday, the Ravens placed five new players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list in defensive lineman Justin Madubuike, inside linebackers Chris Board and Kristian Welch, safety Geno Stone and practice squad offensive tackle David Sharpe.

The five players add to a lengthy COVID-19 list for Baltimore ready as it now grows to 15. Based on the NFL’s protocols they have to opportunity to test off of the list, but it remains to be seen how many Ravens players will be able to return on time for Sunday’s massive divisional matchup.

Ravens release first injury report for Week 6 matchup vs. Chargers

The Ravens released their first injury report of the week ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 of the 2021 season. It should be a very entertaining game as both Baltimore and Los Angeles boast 4-1 record through the first five games of the year and have extremely talented rosters on both sides of the football.

On Wednesday the Ravens released their first injury report of the week leading up to their matchup against Los Angeles. Baltimore held a walk-through practice, so the report reflects an estimation of how players would have participated if the team had practiced in a normal fashion.

Safeties DeShon Elliott (quad) and Geno Stone (thigh) would have been limited participants, beginning this week like they had left off last week. Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva (knee) also would have been limited, but he was able to suit up in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

In terms of who didn’t practice, offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley (ankle) wouldn’t have suited up, and the same goes for Sammy Watkins (thigh). Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee got a rest day.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 5 matchup vs. Colts

The Ravens announced their inactives for their Week 5 matchup against the Colts

The Baltimore Ravens are all set to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 of the 2021 season. Baltimore is looking to improve to 4-1 on the year, while Indianapolis will try to pick up their second win of the season.

Both teams are dealing with a plethora of injuries. While the Ravens have responded well, the Colts have struggled a bit to make up lost production. Ahead of the game, Baltimore announced their inactives list that includes just four players in offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley, linebacker Josh Bynes, and safeties Deshon Elliott and Geno Stone.

Stanley was ruled out for the contest on Saturday, so his appearance on the inactives list isn’t a surprise whatsoever. Both Elliott and Stone practiced in a limited fashion on Saturday, but both will be held out as they continue to heal. Bynes had been active over the last few weeks, but will sit on Monday night.

Ravens release Thursday injury report for Week 4 matchup vs. Broncos

The Ravens released their Thursday injury report for their Week 4 matchup with the Broncos

Both teams are dealing with a plethora of injuries heading into this game, although the Ravens have been the most injured team in the NFL to start the year.

On Thursday, Baltimore released their second injury report of the week ahead of their matchup with Denver. Plenty of names appeared on the list, with quarterback Lamar Jackson as the headliner as he missed his second straight day of practice with a back injury.

Friday’s injury report will go a long way in telling whether certain players will play in Week 4, including Jackson. Safety DeShon Elliott (quad), tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle), and defensive lineman Derek Wolfe (hip/back) also missed their second straight day of practice of the week.

Cornerback Anthony Averett (limited, ankle) and safety Geno Stone (limited, thigh) were new additions to the injury report on Thursday, while offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva (limited, knee), outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (limited, shoulder), and cornerback Tavon Young (full, knee) returned to practice in some capacity. 5 biggest winners of Shaun Wade trade for Ravens

Who were the biggest winners from the Shaun Wade trade for the Ravens?

The Baltimore Ravens shocked quite a few people when they traded rookie cornerback Shaun Wade to the New England Patriots. In return Baltimore received a 2022 7th-round pick and a 2023 fifth-round selection, electing to get compensation back for a player that most likely would not have been on their roster in a few weeks.

The Ravens’ decision to part ways with Wade had a lot to do with how many other defensive backs have stepped up during training camp and the preseason. The rookie’s departure means that those players now have an increased chance to make Baltimore’s final 53-man roster.

Below we look at five of the biggest winners for the Ravens in the aftermath of the Wade trade.
