Former Ravens LB Josh Bynes joins Seahawks as an assistant coach

former Ravens linebacker Josh Bynes will become an assistant linebacker coach with the Seahawks

Baltimore is losing another homegrown product, as former Ravens linebacker Josh Bynes will become an assistant linebacker coach with the Seahawks, according to Aaron Wilson of KPCR in Houston.

Bynes reportedly also interviewed with the Ravens and Chargers.

Head Coach John Harbaugh promoted Zach Orr to defensive coordinator from inside linebackers coach following the end of the season.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Bynes spent his first three NFL seasons in Baltimore as a member of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII-winning team under coach John Harbaugh.

After departing the Ravens, Bynes spent three years in Detroit and two in Arizona. He then played three of his final four seasons in the league with the Ravens before finishing his career with the Bengals.

The Seattle Seahawks continue to fill out their coaching staff, and the Baltimore Ravens connection from head coach Mike Macdonald continues to be quite strong. On Monday it was announced the Seahawks have hired former Ravens linebacker Josh Bynes to be their assistant linebackers coach.

Once again, Macdonald has secured someone from the Harbaugh coaching tree. Bynes interviewed with Baltimore and the Los Angeles Chargers before accepting the Seahawks job, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston.

The youth movement in Seattle continues. Bynes, age 34, was just in the NFL as recently as the 2022 season. He officially retired as a Raven in December, signing a one-day contract.

Originally an undrafted free agent, Bynes spent his first three seasons in the Charm City of Baltimore. A productive role player, Bynes was a member of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII-winning team under coach John Harbaugh. After Baltimore, Bynes spent three years in Detroit and two in Arizona. He then played three of his final four seasons in the league with the Ravens (with a one-year stop in Cincinnati).

Now Bynes comes to Seattle to help fix one of the worst run defenses in the league. Linebacker depth is a need for the Seahawks, and Bynes is there to help give his recent insight on the position to the team.

7 Linebacker additions to help with Cowboys with the home stretch

The Cowboys could use some linebacker help heading into the playoffs. Here’s a look at who is available. | From @ArmyChiefW3

The debate was settled when Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons effectively told everyone that he would be crowding the line of scrimmage, instead of the Twitter-induced idea of playing off-the-ball linebacker. Parsons leads or is near the top in almost every statistical category yet the knee-jerk reaction to switching positions set the world on fire after a poor run-defense game against Buffalo.

With Parsons cemented as a pass rusher, it still doesn’t solve the Cowboys issue at their thinning linebacker group. The return of Cowboys defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins from a high ankle sprain would certainly help but he didn’t suit up against Miami and is questionable a week later for the tilt against Detroit.

Dallas entered the season light at the position and made some head-scratching moves that placed them in the spot they are in now. To supplement the lack of depth, the Cowboys utilized safeties to help stabilize their issues. While it may be easy for some to just say “go get a guy,” the guys available may come with issues of their own.

Josh Bynes officially retires as a Raven after 12 NFL seasons

Following 12 seasons in the NFL, inside linebacker Josh Bynes is officially retiring as a Baltimore Raven. Today, @bynestime56 will officially retire as a Raven Congratulations on your retirement, Josh❕ pic.twitter.com/Wz727HBRbz – Baltimore Ravens …

Following 12 seasons in the NFL, inside linebacker Josh Bynes is officially retiring as a Baltimore Raven.

Bynes was signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2011. The very next season, Bynes would make the game-ending tackle on Ted Ginn Jr. on a kickoff in Baltimore’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.

Bynes was signed off the Ravens’ practice squad by the Detroit Lions during the 2014 season. After spending three seasons with the Lions, Bynes signed with the Arizona Cardinals, where he would stay for the next two seasons before being released in the 2019 offseason.

Bynes returned to Baltimore during the 2019 season. The Ravens’ young pair of inside linebackers were struggling to start the season after losing C.J. Mosley in free agency to the New York Jets that offseason. Baltimore turned to Bynes and fellow veteran inside linebacker L.J. Fort a few weeks into the season, and the duo did not look back.

Bynes signed with the Cincinnati Bengals following the 2019 season. After one season with the Bengals, he signed with the Carolina Panthers but was released as part of final roster cutdowns before the 2021 season.

The Ravens were in a similar situation to start the 2021 season, with second-year first-round pick Patrick Queen struggling without Fort on the field after suffering a season-ending knee injury in the preseason. Baltimore again turned to Bynes to save the day, and he did just that.

Bynes remained a starter alongside Queen into the next season until the Ravens traded for All-Pro inside linebacker Roquan Smith from the Chicago Bears.

The former undrafted linebacker finished his 12-year career with 582 total tackles, 39 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, five interceptions, 34 passes defended, and one defensive touchdown in 138 games played.

Ravens announce flurry of roster moves ahead of Week 16 vs. Falcons

The Baltimore Ravens announced a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 16 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons

The Baltimore Ravens are gearing up to take on the Atlanta Falcons in a massive Week 16 showdown that has importance to both teams. For Baltimore, they’ll be looking to pick up their 10th win of the season while Atlanta will look to stay alive in the NFC South race.

On Friday, the Ravens made a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 16 matchup with Atlanta. They elevated quarterback Anthony Brown and wide receiver Andy Isabella from the practice squad, released inside linebacker Josh Bynes, and signed defensive lineman Isaiah Mack to the active roster.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 14 matchup vs. Steelers

The Ravens announced their inactive players for Week 14 against the Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens are in Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers in Week 14. Starting for the Ravens will be Tyler Huntley, and he’ll be going against rookie Kenny Pickett for the Steelers.  Reports have states that starting quarterback Lamar Jackson could be out for the next two weeks, setting up a potential return on Christmas Eve at home against the Atlanta Falcons.

The inactives list for Week 14 were announced by the team shortly before kickoff, and as expected, Jackson is on the list.  The Ravens get back offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley for this important game, but guard Kevin Zeitler is inactive. Zeitler hasn’t missed a game since 2019, so his knee injury must be tough enough for him to miss this division game.

The good news for Baltimore Ravens is that running back J.K. Dobbins and safety Marcus Williams return to the lineup after long absences. This will be the first time that Dobbins and Gus Edwards have played in the same game together since the 2020 season.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh gives positive news on injury to ILB Patrick Queen

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gives an update on inside linebacker Patrick Queen

The Baltimore Ravens narrowly beat the Denver Broncos 10-9 on Sunday in Week 13 of the 2022 season.  In the win, inside linebacker Patrick Queen left the game in the fourth quarter in a cart and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest with a thigh injury after taking a hard hit while trying to make a tackle.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh spoke after the contest, and was asked about Queen’s condition after leaving the stadium with a visible limp. Harbaugh relayed that Queen suffered a thigh bruise, which the head coach classified as “really good news”.

“Patrick [Queen] had a bruise, a thigh bruise. So, that’s really good news. We came out of that one really happy about that. I was out there [when Patrick Queen got injured], and he was saying, ‘Don’t bring that cart out.’ He was hurting though; those bruises can really hurt. Some of us will bang something on a table and we can’t take it. That play was like a car wreck right there; there were four guys that came together there [and] smashed into each other I think it was. He’s going to be OK.”

Queen appears to be in the clear, and there should be a clearer picture painted once practice reports begin rolling in for Week 14 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has been playing well over the last few months, and will look to continue that stretch when he’s back on the field.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 12 matchup vs. Jaguars

The Baltimore Ravens announced the inactive players for Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 12 of the 2022 season. The team is looking to improve to 8-3 and stay in first place in the AFC North division while extending their winning streak to five games.

Before the contest, Baltimore announced their inactives for the game, which include safety Kyle Hamilton, running back Mike Davis, inside linebacker Josh Bynes, tight end Charlie Kolar, and outside linebacker David Ojabo.  Head coach John Harbaugh mentioned throughout the week that Hamilton would be “day to day” after getting injured last Sunday, but it didn’t seem likely for him to play due to not practicing all week.

Offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, tight end Isaiah Likely, and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis were already ruled out for the Ravens beforehand, as they were announced before traveling with the team.

Rookie linebacker David Ojabo is once again inactive.  He’s been added to the 53-man roster, but still hasn’t had the opportunity to make his Ravens debut.  I’m sure they are doing everything they can to not rush him back, but this week is the best week to activate him and play him against the Jaguars in sunny Florida.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 9 vs. Saints

The Baltimore Ravens announced the inactive players for Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints.

The Baltimore Ravens will look to go into their Week 10 bye week on a high note, but first must play the New Orleans Saints in Week 9 of the 2022 season. Baltimore stands at 5-3 on the year, while New Orleans is 3-5.

The Ravens released their inactive players for Week 9, and as expected, running back Gus Edwards is inactive after not practicing all week with a hamstring injury.  Edwards suffered that injury in the second half of the Thursday night game in Tampa Bay against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8.

Outside linebacker David Ojabo and inside linebacker Josh Bynes are also inactive tonight. Seeing as if the Ravens have a bye next week, it’s probably the smartest move to give Bynes another two weeks of rest and Ojabo, who is still returning from his torn achilles, more time to adjust to the speed of the NFL.

The Saints also released their inactive players for the contest.

Ravens release final injury report for Week 9 matchup vs. Saints

The Baltimore Ravens released the final injury report for the Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

The Baltimore Ravens released the final injury report before the Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints.  The names on the injury report keep increasing, with a key player at a key position being deemed questionable.

For the second straight week, tight end Mark Andrews hasn’t practiced and is listed as doubtful for Monday night. Andrews did play last Thursday in Week 8 even though he didn’t practice the week of, but he ended up injuring his shoulder and left the game before halftime.

After missing the Thursday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Josh Bynes practiced all week and should be good to go for Monday.  The offense is going to need every player to step up if Mark Andrews does in fact miss the game. Running back Gus Edwards also missed his third-straight day at practice, and is listed as doubtful.
