LSU baseball makes quick work of Nicholls in midweek win

It was business as usual for LSU as it run-ruled Nicholls on Tuesday night.

It was business as usual for LSU in its midweek game — another run-rule victory as the Tigers beat Nicholls 12-2 in seven innings.

Nicholls scored the first run of the ball game when they scored on an RBI double in the top of the second inning to give them their only lead of the game.

LSU answered back in the bottom of the third as the Tigers plated five runs thanks to a sacrifice fly from [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag], a wild pitch, and a [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] three-run homer to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, LSU scored two more runs as [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] hit an RBI single and Dugas hit an RBI double to make it 7-1. In the top of the fifth, Nicholls got one of those runs back on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 7-2. In the bottom of the fifth, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] hit a long homer to left to give LSU an 8-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dugas hit an RBI triple, [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI, and White hit a two-run blast to right field to give LSU a 12-2 lead. The Tigers would prevent Nicholls from scoring in the top of the seventh and the Tigers won via run rule.

LSU will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, this Thursday to take on the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks in what should be a very interesting series.

Tigers take series over Tennessee with Game 2 win

LSU baseball will go for the sweep on Saturday.

LSU took down Tennessee 6-4 in Game 2 to take the series against the No. 10 team in the country.

Game 2 in Baton Rouge started with hot bats on both sides. The Tennessee Vols scored a run on a solo homer to give them a 1-0 lead before the Tigers scored three of their own in the bottom of the inning. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag], [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag], and [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit RBI doubles to give LSU a 3-1 lead after the first inning.

Tennessee scored another run in the top of the second with another solo homer to cut the lead to 3-2. In the top of the fourth, the Vols took the lead with a two-run homer to give them a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers got an insurance run when White hit a sacrifice fly to score Dugas and give LSU a 6-4 lead.

[autotag]Chase Shores[/autotag] and [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] followed a good start by Floyd to close out Game 2 and win the series over No. 10 Tennessee at Alex Box Stadium. Game 3 will be Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.

Jordan Thompson and Paul Skenes lead LSU to a win in Game 1 vs. Tennessee

The most anticipated series of the season has begun on the bayou.

The most anticipated series of the season has begun on the Bayou. The LSU Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers went toe-to-toe in front of a sold-out crowd at Alex Box Stadium, and coach Jay Johnson’s team survived in a 5-2 win to start the series the right way.

The pitching matchup for night one could not have been better. Two of the best pitchers in the country, [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Chase Dollander[/autotag], took part in a pitcher’s duel that mirrored a high noon showdown between outlaws.

LSU threatened in the first two innings but couldn’t plate any runs. In the top of the fifth, Tennessee drew first blood on an RBI single to give itself a 1-0 lead.

LSU got that run back and added one as [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit a two-run bomb to score [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] and give LSU a 2-1 lead after five innings. The biggest crowd in Alex Box Stadium history might have registered on the Richter scale when the ball left the stadium.

Skenes’ night was done after he pitched seven innings as he gave up only one run on five hits, one walk and 12 strikeouts. He extended his streak of double-digit strikeout games to seven as well. [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] came in to pitch the eighth inning for the Tigers.

After getting the first batter to fly out, the next hitter singled up the middle and then advanced all the way to third after two wild pitches. That chased Ackenhausen from the game as [autotag]Garrett Edwards[/autotag] came in facing a full count with a runner on third and one out.

Tennessee tied the game on the next pitch as they scored on an RBI single to make it 2-2. Edwards got the next two hitters out and we headed to the bottom of the eighth tied 2-2.

In the bottom of the eighth, after [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] got out, [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] reached on an error, [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] hit an infield single, [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded. Thompson stepped into the batter’s box and proceeded to clear the bases with a three-RBI double to give LSU a 5-2 lead after eight innings!

Edwards stayed on the mound to pitch the ninth inning to try and close the game with a win. He got the first batter to fly out but the next two batters reached base. One was due to an error and the other was a single. That put runners on the corners with one out. The tying run then came to the plate. Edwards struck out the next batter for out number two. The next batter flew out to center field and the Tigers won 5-2!

It was the first win for LSU over Tennessee since 2018 and that win moved LSU to 23-3 (its best start since 2015). Game 2 will be Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.

Tigers baseball run-rules Grambling in midweek matchup

LSU welcomed Grambling into Baton Rouge after winning a series against the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the offense picked up where it left off.

LSU welcomed Grambling into Baton Rouge after winning a series against the Arkansas Razorbacks and the offense picked up where it left off with a 17-5 run-rule win.

The Tigers scored two runs in the first two innings as [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] scored on a [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] RBI single and [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] scored on a Dugas sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

In the top of the third inning, Grambling took the lead on a three-run homer against [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] to give them a 3-2 lead. That lead didn’t last long as LSU scored five runs in the bottom of the third. [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] and Jones hit homers and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] scored on an [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] single to make it 7-3 Tigers.

The Tigers never looked back after that. LSU scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth off of a Beloso single, a [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] single, a [autotag]Ben Nippolt[/autotag] single, a [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] single, and some throwing errors to make it 15-3 LSU after four innings.

Grambling scored one more run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 15-4 but LSU got that run back and another as they scored two in the bottom of the sixth. Kling scored on a sacrifice fly by [autotag]Ethan Frey[/autotag] and [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] scored on a wild pitch to make it 17-4 after six innings.

[autotag]Micah Bucknam[/autotag] pitched the seventh for the Tigers and Grambling welcomed him with a solo homer to cut the lead to 17-5. That wasn’t enough to stop the run rule as the Tigers won big.

LSU will welcome the Tennessee Vols to Alex Box Stadium this weekend for what should be a great series. The first pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT Thursday.

LSU baseball takes series over Arkansas with pair of doubleheader wins

Mel McDaniel would’ve been proud of this Louisiana Saturday Night as LSU beat Arkansas 14-5 to take the series!

Mel McDaniel would’ve been proud of this Louisiana Saturday Night as LSU beat Arkansas 14-5 in Game 3 in the second leg of a doubleheader to take the weekend series

Game 3 started out just like Game 2. Arkansas scored two runs in the top of the first inning. This time, they scored both of their runs on bases-loaded walks by [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag].

LSU answered in the bottom of the first when [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit a two-run Crews Missile to center field to tie the game.

Arkansas scored again in the top of the third inning when Cali hit a two-RBI double to give the Razorbacks a 4-2 lead. Once again, LSU answered in the bottom of that inning as [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] scored on a Crews RBI single, and Crews scored on a [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

LSU got its first lead of the ball game in the bottom of the fourth inning when [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit a triple and then scored on a fielding error by Arkansas. That error resulted in [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] getting on first base. He was quickly brought home when Dugas hit a two-run bomb to left field to give LSU a 7-4 lead.

After a [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] walk and an error that allowed Crews to reach first base, Tommy Tanks hit a three-run bomb to center to give LSU a 10-4 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Arkansas scored a run on a fielder’s choice with bases loaded to cut the lead to 10-5. LSU got that run back in the bottom of the sixth when Tommy Tanks hit a grand slam to right field to make it 14-5.

[autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] and [autotag]Garrett Edwards[/autotag] were the unsung heroes on the mound tonight for the Tigers as they LSU through six tough innings. Herring have up a run on two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Edwards gave up zero runs on two hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] pitched the ninth inning for LSU as he slammed the door on the Razorbacks and secured the 14-5 victory.

LSU’s next game will be Tuesday as it welcomes Grambling State to Baton Rouge. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. The Tigers will then welcome Tennessee into town for a great weekend matchup.

LSU baseball bounces back to take Game 2 vs. Arkansas

Ty Floyd had a quality start and the bats come to life as LSU run-ruled Arkansas 12-2 in Game 2 of the weekend series.

[autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] had a quality start and the bats came to life as LSU run-ruled Arkansas 12-2 in Game 2 of the weekend series on Saturday.

Game 2 could not have started out worse for LSU. [autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] gave up a two-run homer and then hit the next two batters he faced. After that, Floyd settled down and struck out the final two hitters of the inning to stop the bleeding at 2-0.

The LSU offense provided some run support for Floyd in the bottom of the second inning as the Tigers plated four runs. [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit an RBI double to score [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag]. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] followed that with back-to-back homers to give LSU its first lead of the series as the Tigers led 4-2 after two innings.

In the bottom of the third, LSU scored another run as Pearson hit an RBI triple to score [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] and give LSU a 5-2 lead after three innings. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit a Crews Missile and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2.

LSU drops Game 1 against Arkansas after 10th-inning shelling

Arkansas hit a three-run homer to take the lead in the top of the 10th and never looked back.

In the first game of what is likely the hottest college baseball matchup this weekend, Arkansas won a pitcher’s duel against [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] after opening things up in the 10th inning of a 9-3 game.

Skenes had another great day on the mound as he held the Razorbacks to only one run on two hits, three walks, and 12 strikeouts in seven innings.

That run was scored against him in the top of the fourth inning when Tavian Josenberger hit a double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly.

LSU came in with one of the best lineups in college baseball but Arkansas stifled them for seven innings. The Tigers were only able to muster four hits during that stretch.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] hit a solo shot to left field to tie the game 1-1 and breathe life into a dormant offense. [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] followed that with a single and that brought [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] to the plate. Crews reached on an infield single to shortstop. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] fouled out for out number two. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] walked to load the bases for [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag].

Morgan fouled out and the game remained tied 1-1.

[autotag]Chase Shores[/autotag] came in to pitch the eighth and ninth inning for LSU and he gave up one hit with three strikeouts. He allowed the leadoff hitter in the top of the ninth to get a single but he shut the next three batters down to give LSU a chance to walk it off.

All three Tiger batters struck out in the bottom of the ninth and we went to extra innings. After Shores gave up a leadoff walk in the top of the tenth, [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] came in to pitch.

In the top of the tenth, Robinett hit a three-run homer to give the Razorbacks a 4-1 lead. Arkansas scored another run on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. Diggs followed that with a grand slam to make it 9-1.

Crews hit a two-run ‘Crews Missile’ in the bottom of the 10th to cut the lead to 9-3, but that is all LSU could manage as Arkansas took Game 1 of the series. Game 2 will be Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.

LSU baseball bounces back against Central Arkansas with midweek win

Blake Money got roughed up in his first start of the season, but in the end, it didn’t matter.

[autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] got roughed up in his first start of the season but in the end, it didn’t matter as the Tigers beat Central Arkansas 10-4.

[autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run Crews Missile to right to give LSU a 2-0 lead after one inning.

In the bottom of the second, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] scored on an [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] sacrifice bunt to make it 3-0 Tigers after two innings. The Bears came roaring back in the top of the fourth as they scored three runs on Money to chase him from the mound and give them a 4-3 lead.

The Tigers tied it up in the bottom of the fourth when [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] scored on a [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] RBI single. In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers got some well-needed insurance as Thompson hit a three-run bomb to left field to give LSU a 7-4 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Crews scored on a balk. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] scored on a throwing error by Central Arkansas to make it 10-4 LSU after six innings.

With the win, LSU moves to 19-2 on the season. The Tigers will welcome the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks to The Box this weekend for an outstanding SEC series.

Tigers blow late lead to the Aggies in Game 3 for 2nd loss of the season

LSU squandered a two-run lead in the eighth inning as it took its second loss of the year.

LSU took an early lead in Game 3, but Texas A&M used an eighth-inning rally to overcome a two-run deficit and take the 8-6 win to avoid a sweep and hand the Tigers their second loss of the season.

LSU (18-2, 2-1 SEC) started game three strong. After two walks and an error by the Aggie pitcher, A&M walked a run in to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single to right field to score [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit an RBI single to score [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] to give LSU a 4-0 lead after half an inning.

The Aggies got one of those runs back when they hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 4-1.

White hit an RBI single in the top of the second to score Crews and extend the lead to 5-1. The Tiger bats would go cold after that as the Aggies clawed their way back into the game over the next few innings.

Texas A&M scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third inning and in the bottom of the fifth inning, they scored two on a two-RBI double to cut the LSU lead to 5-4.

In the top of the seventh, LSU got some insurance as Pearson scored on a [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] sacrifice fly to make it 6-4.

LSU got themselves in a bind in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Aggies loaded the bases with no one out after a single and a hit batter by [autotag]Chase Shores[/autotag]. [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] entered the game to try and get the Tigers out of the jam. He walked the first batter he faced which loaded the bases with no outs. Little struck out two batters in a row before he walked in a run to cut the lead to 6-5.

The Aggies followed that with a two-RBI single to left field to give the Aggies their first lead of the ball game. Haas then singled to score another run to give A&M an 8-6 lead after eight innings.

In the top of the ninth inning, all the Tigers could manage was a [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] single. The Aggies pulled out an 8-6 victory in game three.

With the loss, LSU drops to 18-2 this season. The Tigers will face Central Arkansas on Tuesday night before welcoming the Arkansas Razorbacks to Baton Rouge next weekend.

LSU erases 4-0 deficit to beat Texas A&M in Game 2, win opening SEC series

LSU rode its relentless offense to a comeback victory over Texas A&M on Saturday to take the weekend series.

In Game 2, LSU rode its relentless offense to a comeback victory as it beat Texas A&M 12-7 on Saturday to take the weekend series.

LSU wasted bases-loaded opportunities in the first and second innings where it could’ve blown the game open. The Aggies took advantage of that as they scored two runs in both the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth.

In the top of the fourth, though, the Tiger bats came to life. LSU scored six runs to take a 6-4 lead. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single with bases loaded to score [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] and [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag]. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit an RBI single to score Crews. [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit an RBI double to right field. [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single to score Pearson and Dugas to take a 6-4 lead.

The Aggies got one of those runs back on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-5.

LSU got some insurance in the top of the sixth inning when Jones hit a three-run homer to left field to make it 9-5.

The Aggies scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to try and claw their way back into the game. With the score 9-6 in the top of the seventh, White hit an RBI single and Jones hit a two-RBI single to double the score of the Aggies as LSU led 12-6 heading into the eighth inning.

[autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] got the start on the mound and he got roughed up a bit. He allowed five runs (3 earned runs) on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in only 3.1 innings. [autotag]Garrett Edwards[/autotag] came in to pitch after Floyd and gave up one run on three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] and [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] came out of the bullpen to finish the game and secure the victory. With the win, LSU takes the series and they will look for the sweep in Game 3 on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
