Omaha Bound: LSU sweeps Kentucky to advance to College World Series

The Tigers are heading to the CWS for the 19th time after a super regional sweep over the Wildcats.

The LSU Tigers are heading to the College World Series.

Coach Jay Johnson’s team beat Kentucky 8-3 in Game 2 of the Baton Rouge Super Regional on Sunday night to secure a series sweep and a spot in Omaha.

With a trip to the CWS on the line, it was up to [autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] to try and pull the Tigers through.

Kentucky drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot to give them a 1-0 lead before LSU tied it in the top of the second on an RBI fielder’s choice by [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag].

[autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] made one of the best plays all season in the bottom of the second inning when he made an incredible throw for out No. 2 in the inning.

In the top of the third, [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] gave the Tigers their first lead of the game via a three-run homer to make the score 4-1. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] followed that with an RBI single of his own to increase the lead to 5-1.

Kentucky chased Floyd from the mound in the bottom of the fourth inning after hitting two solo homers to cut the lead to 5-3. [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] was called on out of the bullpen to try and shut the Wildcats down. Cooper pitched two innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, two strikeouts, and a walk.

[autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning as he looked to go the rest of the way for the Tigers. In the top of the ninth inning, LSU got some more breathing room after [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] scored on a wild pitch and Crews hit a two-RBI double to extend the lead to 8-3.

Gavin Guidry stayed in the game and closed out the 8-3 victory, and now LSU will await either Tennessee or Southern Mississippi for its first game in Omaha.

PHOTOS: Paul Skenes, explosive offense leads LSU past Kentucky in Game 1 of Baton Rouge Super Regionals

The Tigers can clinch a spot in Omaha on Sunday.

Though the prospect of baseball being played at Alex Box Stadium didn’t look great at times on Saturday, LSU ultimately took the field for Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Super Regional against Kentucky, and it couldn’t have gone better for coach Jay Johnson’s team.

Behind a gem of a performance from [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] in his final start at The Box, LSU won 14-0 against the Wildcats and will have a chance to clinch a spot in the College World Series in Omaha on Sunday.

Skenes pitched 7.2 shutout innings with nine strikeouts, while an electric outing from the offense did the rest. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] each hit two home runs, while [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] both had one.

The Tigers will face Kentucky in Game 2 at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday with a spot in the CWS on the line. Here were the best photos from the late-night win on Saturday.

Bombs Away in Baton Rouge: LSU dominates Kentucky to take Game 1 of super regional

After a seven-hour wait due to the weather, LSU’s bats provided all of the electricity needed for a Game 1 win.

After a seven-hour wait due to the weather, LSU’s bats provided all of the electricity needed for a blowout, 14-0 Game 1 win on Saturday night over Kentucky in the first game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional.

[autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] got the Tigers started off on the right foot in the bottom of the first when he hit a solo shot to give LSU a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a two-run shot and Morgan hit another solo shot to increase the lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] joined the party with a solo shot of his own to increase the lead to 5-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, LSU blew the game wide open as they scored six more runs! [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit a solo shot, Morgan got an RBI single, [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Morgan scored on a wild pitch, and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 11-0. In the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU tacked on two more runs thanks to a Thompson RBI single and a sacrifice fly by [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] to extend the lead to 14-0. [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] night ended after 7.2 innings. He finished with zero runs allowed on four hits, nine strikeouts, and a walk.

With the win, LSU is now one win away from Omaha. Game 2 against Kentucky will be on Sunday at 5 p.m. CT.

PHOTOS: LSU baseball defeats Oregon State in Baton Rouge Regional final to advance to supers

The Tigers had a perfect 3-0 record this weekend in the Baton Rouge Regional.

LSU capped off a perfect 3-0 weekend at Alex Box Stadium with a 13-7 win over Oregon State on Monday.

That was the second win over the Beavers in as many days, and it allowed the Tigers to capture a regional title and advance to the super regionals for the 16th time in program history (and the first time since 2021).

All three of LSU’s usual starters were unavailable, and coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] turned to the bullpen to secure the win. [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] got the nod with [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag], [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] and [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] coming in to finish things off.

LSU’s offense was the real star of the show. The Tigers had 19 hits as a team with four different players — [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag], [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag], [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] and [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] — hitting home runs.

Now, LSU will await the winner of the Lexington Regional final between No. 12 national seed Kentucky and Indiana. That series will be played in Baton Rouge again.

In the meantime, here were the best photos as LSU closed out the regional final against the Beavers.

SUPER SHOWING: LSU beats Oregon State to win Baton Rouge Regional, advance to super regional

LSU will host a super regional at Alex Box Stadium against either Kentucky or Indiana this weekend.

For the 16th time in program history, LSU is advancing to the super regionals after a 13-7 win over Oregon State in the Baton Rouge Regional final.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] got the nod on the mound on Monday afternoon as LSU looked to punch its ticket to the Baton Rouge Super Regional. LSU would have to beat Oregon State just once in two games to make that happen.

The Tigers drew first blood in the top of the fourth inning when they scored four runs on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly by [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag], and a two-RBI triple by [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag].

In the bottom of the fourth, the Beavers cut the lead in half with a two-run homer to cut the lead to 4-2. In the top of the fifth inning, LSU got those runs back as [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] and [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] hit back-to-back homers for the second day in a row to increase the lead to 6-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit a Crews Missile off of the Tony Chachere sign in left-center field to increase the lead to 7-2. The Beavers struck again in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run shot to cut the lead to 7-4 after six innings.

In the top of the seventh, LSU put the game out of reach as the Tigers scored five more runs to make it 12-4 LSU after seven innings. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit a homer, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single, Crews scored on a wild pitch, and White scored on an RBI single by Travinski.

In the top of the ninth, LSU scored again on an RBI double by [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] to make it 13-4. Oregon State was down to its final three outs of the season, and the Beavers scored a run to cut the lead to 13-7 but that is all they could manage as the Tigers secured a spot in the supers next weekend.

LSU will play the winner of the Lexington Regional between No. 12 Kentucky and Indiana in its super regional.

LSU beats Tulane in Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Regional

Paul Skenes pitched the first nine-inning complete game in his career as the Tigers took down their in-state rival.

Much to the surprise of many, [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] got the start on the mound for Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Regional against 19-40 Tulane.

We’ll see if that pays off in the long run for coach Jay Johnson and the Tigers, but it certainly did on Friday as they opened their NCAA tournament run with a 7-2 win to advance to the winners’ bracket.

LSU drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning when [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] scored on a [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] RBI double to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Tigers tacked on two more runs when [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] scored on an RBI double and [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] scored on an RBI groundout by [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] to make it 3-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Travinski scored on an RBI groundout by Jobert to give LSU a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, LSU scored two runs off of two sacrifice flyouts to score [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] and Travinski to make it 6-0 Tigers after 5 innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, Tulane finally got on the board with a two-run homer off of Skenes to cut the lead to 6-2.

LSU loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning and Travinski walked to score another run to make the score 7-2 LSU as we headed to the ninth inning.

Skenes stayed on the mound to start the ninth inning as he looked to pitch his first complete game. Skenes retired the hitters 1-2-3 as he pitched the first nine-inning complete game of his career. His final stat line was nine innings pitched as he allowed two runs on seven hits, zero walks and 12 strikeouts.

LSU moves on to the winners’ bracket to face the victor of Friday night’s matchup between Oregon State/Sam Houston State on Saturday.

LSU baseball eliminated from SEC tournament with loss to Texas A&M

Texas A&M eliminated LSU from the SEC Tournament with a 5-3 loss.

After losing to Arkansas on Thursday, LSU faced Texas A&M in an elimination game. If the Tigers were going to remain in the tournament, it would be up to [autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag].

Unfortunately for the Tigers, their run in Hoover, Alabama, came to an end on Friday evening with a 5-3 loss to the Aggies.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] put the Tigers on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the second inning to score [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag]. The Aggies tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double and we headed to the third inning tied 1-1.

In the top of the fourth inning, Jobert struck again as he hit an RBI double to score [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] and give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. In the top of the fifth, [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit an RBI double to score Tre Morgan and give LSU a 3-1 lead after five innings.

Floyd’s day was finished after pitching five innings and allowing one run on three hits, seven strikeouts, and a walk. [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] was called on out of the bullpen in relief to start the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, things fell apart for the LSU bullpen. The Aggies scored a run on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-2 and then they hit a three-run homer off of [autotag]Sam Dutton[/autotag] to give them a 5-3 lead. [autotag]Javen Coleman[/autotag] came in and got the Tigers out of the inning, but the damage was already done. Travinski scored in the ninth inning but that is all LSU could manage as they lost 5-4.

With the loss, LSU is eliminated from the SEC tournament and will now await to see who they will face in the Baton Rouge Regional.

LSU survives extra innings against Georgia to take Game 1

LSU got a much-needed win in Game 1 and will look to clinch the series against the Bulldogs on Friday.

LSU has lost two conference series in a row and they are at risk of losing their super regional hosting rights. A good showing this weekend would prevent that, and LSU took care of business in Game 1 with an 8-5 win over Georgia, though it took 12 innings to get there.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] got the party started in the top of the second inning when he hit a two-run blast over the scoreboard in right field to give LSU a 2-0 lead.

With [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] on the mound, a two-run lead is usually enough to win the game. Not this time. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Georgia tied the game with a solo homer and an RBI single to tie the game 2-2 as we headed into the sixth inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] broke the tie with a solo homer and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] followed that up with a solo shot of his own to make it 4-2 LSU heading into the bottom of the inning.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] took over for Skenes on the mound to start the bottom of the eighth. Skenes finished the game after pitching seven innings and allowing two runs on four hits, a walk and 12 strikeouts.

Cooper walked the first batter he faced and he was pulled for [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag]. Hurd struck out the first batter he faced, walked the next one and got out No. 2 on a fielder’s choice. Hurd got the next batter to pop up to short, but Thompson dropped the ball and a run scored to make it 4-3.

Hurd got the next hitter to pop up for out No. 3.

[autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit his first “Crews Missile” in a while to extend the LSU lead to 5-3 as we headed to the bottom of the ninth.

The first batter in the bottom of the ninth hit a solo shot, and just like that, it was a one-run game again. Hurd would stay in the game to try and finish the job. He got the next two hitters out quickly, but with only one out remaining, Georgia hit a solo shot to tie the game 5-5. The next hitter grounded out and we headed to extra innings.

Neither team could score a run in the top of the 10th so we headed to the 11th. Jobert was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] advanced him with a sacrifice bunt. [autotag]Ben Nippolt[/autotag] came in to pinch-hit for [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag], and he drew a walk to put runners on first and second with only one out.

The bases were loaded for Crews and White, but the Tigers failed to score after Crews struck out and White grounded into a fielder’s choice. Hurd retired all three Georgia hitters in short order and we headed to the 12th inning.

Travinski started the 12th inning with a double and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] then hit a two-run homer to give the Tigers a 7-5 lead. Thompson followed that with a homer of his own to make it 8-5 as we headed to the bottom of the 12th.

Hurd retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 12th and LSU survived Game 1 against Georgia with an 8-5 win. The Tigers will go for the series win at 5 p.m. CT on Friday.

LSU takes Game 1 against Mississippi State with dominating run-rule win

After dropping their first SEC series of the year last weekend, the Tigers decided not to play with their food in Game 1 against Mississippi State.

After dropping their first SEC series of the year last weekend, the Tigers decided not to play with their food in Game 1 against Mississippi State.

LSU drew first blood and scored four runs in the first two innings as [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag], [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag], and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] all hit homers to get the Tigers out to a 5-0 lead.

The game stayed that way until the top of the sixth inning when the Bulldogs scored their only run of the game on a solo homer to left field off of [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag]. LSU answered that run with three of their own as [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] walked with bases loaded, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit an RBI single, and [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to score [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] and make it 8-1 LSU.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU scored four more runs as they secured a run-rule victory in Game 1 by a 12-1 clip. Morgan hit a two-RBI single and White followed that with a two-run homer to walk it off.

LSU drops first SEC series of the season as Auburn dominates Game 3

For the first time all season, LSU has lost a conference series with Sunday’s run-rule loss.

For the first time all season, LSU has lost a conference series.

Auburn has now taken down No. 2 South Carolina and No. 1 LSU in back-to-back weeks after earning a dominating 12-2 run-rule win in Sunday’s decisive Game 3.

The game started off the way LSU wanted it to. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit a solo shot on the third pitch of the ballgame to give LSU a 1-0 lead.

That nice start became a nightmare in the bottom of the first inning as [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] gave up four walks and an RBI single in the first five batters he faced before he was replaced by [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag]. Herring walked the first two batters he faced before giving up a two-RBI single to give Auburn a 6-1 lead after one inning.

[autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] got LSU out of a jam in the first inning and he would stay in to pitch the second. Auburn hit an RBI single off of him to increase its lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Auburn scored two more runs thanks to a two-RBI triple to increase its lead to 9-1.

LSU finally scored again in the top of the fifth inning when Dugas scored on a [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] single to cut the lead to 9-2. Auburn answered in the bottom of the sixth with another two-RBI triple to make it 11-2 Auburn.

Auburn walked it off with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the game 12-2.

With the loss, LSU drops to 37-10 and 16-7 in conference play. The next game will be Tuesday evening at 6:30 CT against Northwestern State.
