The initial hype of the early signing period has died down, but there was a ton of talent to explore and so much so we are breaking it down by position. We have already dove into the top five quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and to sign with Big Ten teams and now we want to break down a position that Ohio State has struggled to recruit recently in offensive tackle.

The Big Ten has signed some heavy hitters at the offensive tackle position snagging six of the top 20 in the nation, but the unfortunate side of that is the Buckeyes didn’t snag any of them. Once again, The Team Up North earned a commitment from the top player at the position

Biggest theme of Penn State’s 2024 class: balance

Penn State’s 2024 class offers one of the more balanced recruiting hauls in the country.

With the first and busiest day of the college football early signing period behind us, we can confirm that Penn State signed all 25 of its Class of 2024 commits earlier today. It was a “drama-free” signing day according to [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] who spoke after all the commits had signed. The class is now locked in for next year so let’s break it down.

Penn State returns a boatload of starting-caliber players from last season but will lose several starters to the NFL with more expected to announce in the coming month. Penn State has never been a heavy transfer portal school and relies mainly on keeping its returning players intact while reloading with a strong freshman class.

This years’ class is ranked 14th in the country by 247Sports Composite and 16th by On3. With 12 offensive commits and 13 defensive commits this year’s group is evenly balanced eluding to the fact that Franklin and his staff want to add quality depth around the board and fill in any neccessary holes from departing players.

From a positon standpoint is was more of the same type of balance across the board:

No one position or side of the ball dominated the 2024 recruiting cycle for Penn State, but thats a good thing because it shows that Penn State has talent everywhere. Three wide recievers were added to arguably the worst room in 2023 and a playmaking running back was added to a room featuring two former 5-star recruits. The trenches were reloaded with talent and many of the offensive line commits should challenge for starting spots in their first year.

In the time of the transfer portal and NIL perhaps a early signing day like the one Penn State had today is not exciting, but it does not matter Franklin’s method of “underpromise, overdeliver” method still produces wins. It has in the past. Penn State’s 2024 class is balanced, solid, and most importantly adds talent across the board which is key for sustained success.

It looks like a good percentage of Penn State’s Class of 2024 will be on campus in January to get a jump with offseason workouts.

Now that Penn State has officially signed its Class of 2024 on the first day of the early signing period, or at least all of the commitments they had lined up, the page is quickly turning forward. Not to look past the upcoming Peach Bowl against Ole Miss later this month, but winter workouts and spring football will be here before you know it! And it seems a good percentage of Penn State’s Class of 2024 is expected to be on campus and ready to get started working with their new teammates and coaches.

The early signing period for college football is officially open as schools around the country are locking in their entire, if not the vast majority, of their recruiting classes for the Class of 2024. Penn State will be among the schools expecting to receive signed National Letters of Intent from their verbal commitments to make things official. There could always be a player or two who hold off until the traditional signing period in February for one reason or another, but Penn State is hoping for a pretty simple and straightforward opening to the early signing period.

Here is a look at each player who committed to Penn State in the Class of 2024 recruiting calendar and an update on which players have signed in the early signing period.

Updated On3 recruiting rankings gives big boost to Penn State commits

Penn State’s Class of 2024 gets a boost form updated On300 player rankings from On3.

Penn State’s Class of 2024 lineup of commitments continues to impress in the national rankings with a consensus top 10 class being put together. But on Monday, a number of Penn State commitments saw a nice boost to their individual recruiting ranking from On3, with three players moving up into the top 100 in the nation.

Offensive lineman Garrett Sexton moved up nearly 70 spots in the 2024 recruiting rankings by going from no. 112 overall in the nation up to no. 44. The newest member of the Class of 2024 lineup, defensive lineman Mylachi Williams, cruised all the way up to no. 79 from no. 205. And tight end Luke Reynolds saw a massive surge by jumping all the way up to no. 81 after not being ranked in the On300 rankings previously.

Other notable risers in the On300 rankings from On3 included quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer (no. 176), offensive lineman Cooper Cousins (no. 215), and defensive back Dejuan Lane (no. 274). All three players were previously out of the On300.

Penn State has a few other players in the Class of 2024 On300, of course. Quinton Martin (no. 109), Vaboue Toure (no. 206), and Jon Mitchell (no. 155), Josiah Brown (no. 297) are among the commits ranked inside the On300.

The updated recruiting rankings also gave Penn State a boost on the On3 team rankings for the Class of 2024. The updated rankings boosted Penn State from no. 10 in the On3 class rankings up to no. 8.

Sooners latest offer goes to Ellis Davis, a 2024 4-star OT prospect

Oklahoma’s latest offer goes out to four-star offensive tackle Ellis davis out of Prosper, Texas.

On the same day he would see one of his former players drafted in the first round for the first time, offensive line coach [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] is out on the road looking for more potential first-rounders.

That journey led him to Prosper, Texas, where he offered composite four-star tackle, Ellis Davis.

Davis, a 6-foot-6 260-pound force played primarily right tackle for his high school team. He’s seen his recruitment take off in the last few months as offers from Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Florida State have also trickled in.

Texas Tech is a firm player in his recruitment, and according to On3, they are the perceived leader to this point. Oklahoma received a commitment from Isaiah Autry the day before their spring game but the Sooners look set on taking multiple tackles in this class. Grant Sexton, a target they added to their radar late, committed to Penn State. Kaedin Massey and Bennett Warren remain possibilities, but offering Davis gives them another name to pursue.

4-Star OT Garrett Sexton commits to Penn State

Penn State adds another big piece for the offensive line in the Class of 2024 with latest commitment from Garrett Sexton.

It may be NFL draft week but for [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] and his staff the work never stops when it comes to building a winner. They skipped the coffee and started their work week by getting a commitment from 4-star Wisconsin offensive tackle recruit [autotag]Garrett Sexton[/autotag].

The 6-foot-7, 245-pound recruit decided to commit to Penn State over Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. He visited Penn State in March and had recently completed a visit to Oklahoma. Despite that visit and the pressure from his home state Wisconsin Badgers, he decided to head to State College to continue his football career.

Sexton is the 11th player to commit to Penn State as a part of their 2024 recruiting class that currently ranks eighth nationally and third in the Big Ten according to 247 Sports. He joins Donovan Harbour who committed last week as the second player to be in the class from the state of Wisconsin. They could add a third with running back Corey Smith set to announce his decision on Friday as he is currently crystal balled to Penn State.

In the 2024 class at his position, Sexton joins [autotag]Cooper Cousins[/autotag] and [autotag]Caleb Brewer [/autotag]as offensive tackles who will be coming to State College. Penn State may have to thank [autotag]Olu Fashanu [/autotag]for spotlighting the position as the top-ranked NFL prospect at the position heading into the 2024 NFL draft.

Wisconsin offers in-state offensive lineman last minute

The Badgers offered Garrett Sexton, a three-star class of 2024 offensive lineman from Hartland, Wisconsin on Friday.

The Badgers offered Garrett Sexton, a three-star offensive lineman from Hartland, Wisconsin on Friday. The 6-foot-7, 245 pound athlete still has one more season of football at Arrowhead High School before he’d join a collegiate program as a member of their class of 2024.

With Sexton set to announce his commitment on May 1, Wisconsin has made a last minute attempt at reeling him in, becoming the 19th Division 1 program to offer him.

As of right now, Penn State is the favorite to land Sexton according to 247Sports, but Luke Fickell and his staff could certainly make a last second pitch to keep him in his home state and have him come to Madison.

Offensive tackle Isaiah Autry commits to the Oklahoma Sooners

Isaiah Autry joins the Sooners 2024 recruiting class, choosing Oklahoma over Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, and FSU.

Bill Bedenbaugh is on the board for the [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag] as he led the charge and helped Oklahoma land its first offensive line commitment for the class of the cycle. Three-star offensive tackle [autotag]Isaiah Autry[/autotag] chose Oklahoma over Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida State, and Auburn.

Autry’s second cousin is Marcus Dupree, a former Oklahoma running back. He hails from the state of Mississippi, and while Ole Miss was a major factor in his recruitment, a visit and offer from Oklahoma in March changed everything. Autry’s mother Pashen Dent was a player for the Tennessee Volunteers under Pat Summit.

“Over the past years, I have been blessed to be able to play the game of football at a high level,” Autry said in his commitment release. “To my family, coaches and friends, I would like to say thank you for praying for me and supporting me throughout my football recruiting process.

“A special thanks to my parents, Marcus and Pashen Dent, and grandparents Ruby Jean Brazzle and the late Johnny Brazzle, for a Christian and humble upbringing, and teaching me the meaning of hard work and dedication. I want to thank my Itawamba Agriculture High School family, friends, fans, and administration for a wonderful on and off-the-field experience.”

Autry is a large young man with the frame to become a strong bookend player for years. One underrated aspect about Autry is that he’s a powerlifter, so he has strength in spades already. He’s also very athletic for a player his size, providing a lot of upside for the future Oklahoma tackle.

With a detailed nutrition program and some time with the head of strength and conditioning, Jerry Schmidt, Autry has an incredibly high ceiling.

Autry showed a knack for displacing defenders in the run game and finishing blocks. That trait will endear him to Bedenaugh and Jeff Lebby as Oklahoma has become a run-first team.

April has been extremely kind to Oklahoma in the [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag].

This week alone, the Sooners landed three-star wide receiver [autotag]K.J. Daniels[/autotag] on Monday after getting a commitment from four-star quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] earlier in the month. The Sooners’ trio of April commits joined four-star cornerback [autotag]Jeremiah Newcombe[/autotag], who broke the ice for the 2024 class in March.

Autry will be in Norman to get a taste of a game-day-like atmosphere for the first time while watching the Sooners’ spring game.

With Autry on board, Bill Bedenbaugh will focus on adding a few more talented offensive linemen. Casey Poe, Kaedin Massey, Garrett Sexton, and Bennett Warren are players to watch as the Sooners continue to put together a strong offensive line class.

3-star offensive lineman has Penn State in top 4

Penn State in top four for this Class of 2024 offensive line recruiting target

Penn State has started to pick up their recruiting efforts for the class of 2024 in recent months. The class started out looking bleak, but has picked up some serious momentum. The Nittany Lions are now up to six commitments with some speculation there could be another coming soon.

Penn State has their sights set on beefing up their offensive line for the 2024 class. They already secured four-star prospect [autotag]Cooper Cousins[/autotag] in January, but have been recruiting others in the class to join him.

[autotag]Garrett Sexton[/autotag] is a 6’7″ 245 pound prospect from Wisconsin. The three-star offensive lineman included the Nittany Lions on his list after his unofficial visit in late March. 18 schools have offered Sexton a scholarship, but he cut his list to four schools on Thursday.

Included in his announcement was that he’ll be making deciding on which program he’ll commit to on May 1st.

The three other schools in his top four are Oklahoma, Minnesota and Iowa.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Minnesota in the lead to land the three-star prospect. They give the Golden Gophers a 30.2% chance to get Sexton. He’s had two unofficial visits to the campus and looks to be the strong leader in his recruitment.

Penn State is currently sitting at a 9.9% chance to get Sexton, but the machine hasn’t been updated since he announced his top four schools. Out of the other programs on the list, Penn State has the third best odds to get him according to the Recruiting Prediction Machine.

247Sports has the recruiting rankings very close between Penn State, Iowa and Minnesota. They are ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively in the Big Ten for the 2024 class.
