UFC Fight Night 243 video: Morgan Charriere crumples Gabriel Miranda with big left hook

Morgan Charriere knocked out Gabriel Miranda at UFC Paris and then led the crowd in a singing of the national anthem of France.

Few men are more popular in Accor Arena than “The Last Pirate.”

At UFC Fight Night 243 on Saturday in Paris, [autotag]Morgan Charriere[/autotag] didn’t disappoint the French crowd when he knocked out [autotag]Gabriel Miranda[/autotag] at 0:27 mark of Round 2 in their featherweight matchup.

Charriere (20-10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) found Miranda (17-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) out of position with his guard down after a spinning attempt and perfectly placed a big left hook right on the Brazilian’s jaw. After Miranda fell, Charriere pounced and the fight was stopped nearly immediately, which sent the arena into pandemonium (via X):

After the win, Charriere led the raucous Paris crowd in a signing of “La Marseillaise,” the national anthem of France.

The victory returned Charriere into the win column after a split decision loss to Chepe Mariscal in April. For Miranda, the loss comes after his first UFC win, a submission over Shane Young in September 2023.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares Ziam prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 243

Matt Frevola and Fares Ziam meet in a fun lightweight bout that opens the UFC Paris main card at Accor Arena.

[autotag]Matt Frevola[/autotag] and [autotag]Fares Ziam[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card opener of UFC Fight Night 243 at Accor Arena in Paris. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares Ziam UFC Paris preview

Frevola (11-4-1 MMA, 5-4-1 UFC) enters his first fight since headliner Benoit Saint Denis snapped his three-fight winning streak. Prior to the setback, Frevola stopped three straight opponents. Genaro Valdez, Ottman Azaitar and Drew Dober failed to make it out of the first round against “The Steamrolla.” … Ziam (15-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) will look to keep his momentum going as a winner of three straight fights. The Frenchman picked up consecutive decision wins over Michal Figlak, Jai Herbert and Claudio Puelles.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares ZiamUFC Paris expert pick, prediction

Kicking off the main card is a proper action fight at 155 pounds between Ziam and Frevola.

For those familiar with my card formatting critiques, there’s nothing I love more than action-fighting lightweights to kick off the festivities on the main broadcast.

Although Ziam can be stereotyped as more of a ‘point-fighting’ competitor, I believe that Frevola’s aggression will bring out the best in the Frenchman. That said, I find myself leaning toward the American in this spot.

Unless Ziam can turn himself into a one-punch knockout artist, I suspect that Frevola will eventually be able to close in on the French fighter and take this fight to the floor (where the biggest on-paper disparity exists).

It’s hard to bet against Ray Longo fighters, so I’ll take “The Steamrolla” to snatch up a submission by Round 2.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares ZiamUFC Paris odds

Despite the oddsmakers opening the American as the favorite, public money has come in on the French fighter, listing Ziam -132 and Frevola +108 via FanDuel.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares ZiamUFC Paris start time, how to watch

Frevola and Ziam are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 3:05 p.m. ET (9:05 p.m. locally in Paris). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 243

Morgan Charriere and Gabriel Miranda are a pair of exciting featherweights hunting for their second promotional win at UFC Paris.

[autotag]Morgan Charriere[/autotag] and [autotag]Gabriel Miranda[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 243 at Accor Arena in Paris. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda UFC Paris preview

Charriere (19-10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) saw a four-fight winning streak come to an end in April in a Fight of the Night split decision loss to Chepe Mariscal. The France-born fighter has taken home bonuses in both of his UFC appearances. In his debut, he recorded a Performance of the Night-worthy first-round finish of Manolo Zecchini. … Miranda (17-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC), like his opponent, is 1-1 in the UFC, but with flipped results. The Brazilian lost his debut to the headliner of this event, Benoit Sant Denis. In his second appearance, Miranda rebounded beautifully with a first-round submission of Shane Young at UFC 293 last September.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda UFC Paris expert pick, prediction

Serving as an action-filled offering at featherweight is a fun fight between Charriere and Miranda.

Even though Charriere came up short in a highly competitive fight with Chepe Mariscal earlier this year, I’m happy to see the UFC still giving him a showcase spot here. That said, Miranda is incredibly dangerous – particularly early on in fights.

Charriere does have the propensity to find himself in close fights, but I suspect that Miranda’s marauding style brings out the best in “The Last Pirate.”

So long as Charriere can survive the early storm from the Brazilian, then I believe he’ll be able to get Miranda out of there in the mid-to-late rounds.

I’ll officially pick Charriere to force a stoppage via strikes in Round 2.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda UFC Paris odds

The oddsmakers and the public heavily favor the French fighter, listing Charriere -750 and Miranda +490 via FanDuel.

Charriere and Miranda are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 3:35 p.m. ET (9:35 p.m. locally in Paris). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

UFC 293 winner Gabriel Miranda promises Ilia Topuria showdown will happen

UFC 293 winner Gabriel Miranda says he was aligned to fight Ilia Topuria in BRAVE CF and vows the matchup eventually happens.

SYDNEY – [autotag]Gabriel Miranda[/autotag] has 17 finishes in 17 victories, but none bigger than his 59-second win over Shane Young at UFC 293 on Saturday.

On the preliminary card, Miranda (17-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) picked up the ninth-fastest submission in UFC featherweight history when he put Young (13-8 MMA, 2-5 UFC) to sleep with a rear-naked choke.

The victory was his first in the promotion. While he will take his UFC stint one step at a time, Miranda is confident in his abilities. He’s so confident, in fact, he’s already visualizing a future fight vs. top contender Ilia Topuria, who is likely next in line for the UFC featherweight title.

“I have the same problem with another guy in another event, another promotion,” Miranda told MMA Junkie and other reporters with the assistance of an interpreter at a post-fight news conference. “We fought but a title fight. He came to UFC first, then I’m here. But I’m here one day and one day this fight will happen. Ilia Topuria. Ilia Topuria. I was supposed to fight him for BRAVE. Now, we’re back in the same promotion. Now, we’re on the way.”

[lawrence-related id=2678602,2678637]

Miranda, 33, has won three of his most recent four fights. His only defeat in the stretch was his short-notice UFC debut vs. Benoit Saint-Denis in September 2022.

Topuria, 26, is expected to challenge UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, though no official announcement come yet. Undefeated as a pro, Topuria has defeated top contenders Bryce Mitchell and Josh Emmett in succession.

UFC 293 video: Gabriel Miranda squeezes flailing Shane Young unconscious in 59 seconds

Shane Young did his damndest to fight off the Gabriel Miranda rear-naked choke at UFC 293, but he went to sleep instead.

[autotag]Gabriel Miranda[/autotag] only needed 59 seconds to put [autotag]Shane Young[/autotag] to sleep at UFC 293.

In a featherweight prelim bout at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Miranda (17-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took down Young (13-8 MMA, 0-4 UFC), took the back, and squeezed until unconsciousness came.

Young, who missed weight by 3.8 pounds at Friday’s weigh-ins, gave his best effort not to tap, as he bucked his limbs in a last-ditch effort to somehow wiggle away. It was unsuccessful as he picked up his fourth-straight loss.

Miranda picks up his first UFC win after an unsuccessful short-notice promotional debut vs. Blake Bilder, which he lost by unanimous decision in February.
