UFC Fight Night 233 winner Kevin Jousset suggests clash with Daniel Rodriguez next: ‘I like his style’

After UFC Fight Night 233, Kevin Jousset called out Daniel Rodriguez, who was recently cleared of a USADA suspension.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Kevin Jousset[/autotag] is eager to climb the welterweight ranks after winning his sophomore octagon appearance at UFC Fight Night 233.

Jousset (10-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) earned a convincing unanimous decision victory over Song Kenan on Saturday at the UFC Apex, and now he’s looking for a step up in competition, and thinks [autotag]Daniel Rodriguez[/autotag] would be a good fit after his recent clearance from a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspension.

“I saw ‘D-Rod’ got cleared from USADA,” Jousset told MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight at UFC Fight Night 233. “I like his style. I feel he’s a very good fighter. He seems to be a good guy, as well. I don’t know the guy personally, but I would love to test my skills against this guy potentially. I know he’s much higher than me in the rankings, but who knows. If the UFC is interested in this fight, let’s do it.”

Jousset, 30, said he knows if he’s going to beat someone the caliber of Rodriguez (17-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC), he needs to shore up the holes in his game. He thinks he made some mistakes against Kenan, but is confident they can be rectified.

“I thought I would be able to capitalize a bit more,” Jousset said. “I was not very happy with some technical stuff that I did, but it is what it is. A win is a win, and that’s the main thing.”

Jousset said his ideal timeframe to get back in the octagon is the first quarter of 2024. He wants to take the rare opportunity to spend the Christmas holiday with his family, and once that’s done, he intends to get right back to the grind.

“I’ll see with my coaches what they think, but I want to fight again soon,” Jousset said. “I’m going home for Christmas, so I’m looking forward to that because I haven’t spent Christmas at home in many years. I look forward to seeing my family and my friends. Take a couple weeks off, then we’ll see. Hopefully, fight again in March.”

Kevin Jousset explains post-UFC 293 callout of ‘annoying’ Ian Machado Garry

Kevin Jousset simply wants to test himself against a fellow highly touted striker in Ian Machado Garry.

SYDNEY – [autotag]Kevin Jousset[/autotag] simply wants to test himself against a fellow highly touted striker in [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag].

Jousset (9-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) called out Garry after submitting Kiefer Crosbie in the first round in this past Saturday’s UFC 293 opening bout at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. Although Garry (13-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) is currently a ranked welterweight climbing into top contention, City Kickboxing’s Jousset would love that fight.

“I think he’s a good fighter,” Jousset told MMA Junkie and other reporters during a post-fight news conference. “I think he wants to go all the way to the top and so do I. I’m sure he thinks he’s one of the best guys in the world and so do I.

“Surely we have the same goals of being world champion eventually, and being in the UFC for me means I’m here to fight the best guys in the world. I’m not here to fight bums or fight guys that nobody knows about. I’m here to fight the best guys in the world and make money. So, if I can do both at the same time, perfect.”

Garry is one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster, who rubbed some people the wrong way for going after his past opponent, Neil Magny. Jousset isn’t a fan of his personality either.

“I agree, I think he’s annoying,” Jousset said.

Jousset clarified that he’s not discrediting Garry. He just thinks he’s better than him everywhere, and he’s willing to prove it.

“I think he’s very good, don’t get me wrong,” Jousset said. “I’m not saying he’s a bad fighter or anything. I think he’s very good. I train with long, very good strikers every day, and he’s a long, very good striker.

“I’m also one of the best grapplers and not many people know about it just yet because I didn’t really get the chance to show none of my grappling, even if I did tonight for a little bit. But, I can outstrike him, and I can outgrapple him.”

UFC 293 video: Kevin Jousset slickly squeezes Kiefer Crosbie into submission, calls out Ian Garry

France’s Kevin Jousset got the party started at UFC 293 and then turned his attention to another Conor McGregor acquaintance.

[autotag]Kevin Jousset[/autotag] impressed in his promotional debut Saturday in his adopted home country of Australia.

In the UFC 293 preliminary card opener, Jousset (9-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) diced up former Bellator fighter [autotag]Kiefer Crosbie[/autotag] (10-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) before he looked in a rear-naked choke submission at 4:49 of Round 1.

The fight was a striking battle until it hit the canvas, at which point the France-born, City Kickboxing product got a tap from Ireland’s Crosbie in a matter of seconds thereafter.

Following the win, Jousset called out Ian Garry in an attempt to continue the theme of defeating Irish fighters.

With the victory, Jousset, a former two-weight champion for Hex Fight Series, has won four bouts in a row. On the flip side, Crosbie loses for the first time since his Bellator departure in late 2021.

Two-division regional champ Kevin Jousset ready to shine in octagon debut at UFC 293

Kevin Jousset knows the optics might be a little askew, given he was featured at media day for his first UFC fight.

SYDNEY – [autotag]Kevin Jousset[/autotag] knows the optics might be a little askew, given he was featured at media day for his first UFC fight.

The two-time Hex Fight Series champion, from France, thinks the UFC brass knows what he brings to the table. Jousset (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) takes on Kiefer Crosbie (10-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in a welterweight curtain jerker Saturday. He’ll be hoping to get the event started with a win for New Zealand-based City Kickboxing, where his teammates include middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who headlines the card.

Jousset talked about that and more at Wednesday’s UFC 293 media day in Sydney.
