Nebraska fans not happy with the Oklahoma game kickoff time

Husker fans were not afraid to take to social media to express their displeasure at the game time against Oklahoma!!

Nebraska Football learned the kickoff times for seven of its 12 regular-season games earlier in the week. One game-time Husker fans were interested to see was the September 17 match-up in Lincoln against the Oklahoma Sooners. Unfortunately, the match-up will occur at 11:00 am on FOX, and to say Nebraska fans were less than pleased would be an understatement. Many of the Husker faithful took to social media in the days following their announcement to announce their disappointment. The general sentiment expressed is that in a match-up between two rivals with the history of these two schools, the game should be in prime time. Look below, and we have a sample of some of the tweets showing Nebraska fans expressing their frustration.

Urban Meyer hints at a return to television

Would you support this and be excited about it?

To say that it’s been a rough year for former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer would be an understatement. There was the bar scandal, the train wreck that was his head coaching stint in Jacksonville, not to mention all the mud that was slung at him in the media before, during, and after his firing.

So, who could blame Meyer if he wanted to go away and never be in the limelight again?

But that may not be the case. In fact, according to some comments Meyer made on the “Tim May Podcast” earlier this week, he may be making a return to the television booth. He hinted at a return to a familiar role when asked if he’d ever consider working in a similar capacity as the one he had with Fox.

“That’s all still in conversation,” Meyer told May. “I love Fox, I love their team and their guys. There’s nothing that’s been finalized yet, but I plan on going back and doing it. I really enjoyed that. I enjoyed celebrating those who play, celebrating those who coach it. It’s a great game. Not being the kind of ripping people to shreds but just celebrating this incredible game and most importantly, the players that do this game. I plan on being back in the fall doing something like that.”

Well OK, then. If you know anything about the Fox Big Noon Kickoff show, Meyer was great. However, taking a head coaching position puts a damper on being available to continue that type of gig. With the void left when Meyer took the Jags job, the network filled it with former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops.

With Stoops now looking to get back into coaching with the XFL, there will again be an opening on the FOX pregame show. Will it be Meyer who might return to reprise his role? It looks like there’s at least a good possibility of that happening. We’ll just have to keep our ears open and eyes peeled to see if it actually comes to fruition.

‘Something we can get fixed’: Oklahoma seeking improved run game against Iowa State

Iowa State boasts the nation’s No. 18 rushing defense. Oklahoma remains confident it can get its rushing game on track versus the Cyclones.

Oklahoma has been held under 100 rushing yards in each of its past two games. Baylor kept redshirt junior running back Kennedy Brooks to just 55 rushing yards on 14 carries and the Sooners to 82 rushing yards as a team.

Against Texas Tech, Oklahoma rushed for only 72 yards. Part of that was true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams passing for over 400 yards and six touchdowns.

Still, it’s an alarming trend that Oklahoma needs fixed asap. On the season, Brooks only has a pair of 100-plus rushing yards games. He racked up 217 rushing yards with a pair of touchdowns against Texas on 25 carries and then followed that performance up the next week against TCU with 153 yards on 20 handoffs.

Since then, it’s been difficult for Oklahoma to find much in the way of running lanes.

Brooks remained upbeat earlier this week about the Sooners’ ability to establish the running game moving forward.

“Man, I’ve got more than just faith. They’ve done it before. They can do it again. I mean, we’re all not playing our best football, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to just keep playing bad. We’re grinding. We’re going to keep working things out and we’re going to be good. I have faith in this whole team. I got faith in everybody. I’m still confident this team can do what we can and will do what we want to do at the end of the day. I’m very confident,” Brooks said.

Iowa State brings the nation’s No. 18 rushing defense to town on Saturday, so it doesn’t figure to get any easier at least on paper. Brooks and the Sooners know what type of battle they’re in for.

“They’re a strong defense. They’re a great team. They’ve always got great run fits. It’s going to be a battle up front, man. Whoever runs the ball this game is going to win the game. That’s what it always comes down to at the end of it every time I’ve played them. It’s going to be a very physical game, but we can do it. It’s something that we’ve done before and we can do it again,” Brooks said.

Oklahoma’s starting left guard Marquis Hayes understands that it starts with his group performing better.

“It’s definitely something we can get fixed. I feel like Baylor had a good scheme versus us, but it’s about us being more physical in the run. We’ve got to establish the run up front. Obviously, for the running backs to hit the gaps that they need to, we have to be more physical to open up the gap. Basically, we established this game to come in and be more physical and set the tone,” Hayes said.

Hayes and the rest of Oklahoma’s offensive line have reemphasized the need to win that battle of physicality up front this week versus the Cyclones. That starts with how they’ve approached practice.

“It manifests by saying…basically, practice. If you come in and attack practice with being physical. Coach B definitely said for us to be better as an offensive line we have to establish the run game and that’s being physical. It’s definitely a mentality. We attacked it this week. We’re establishing the run and being more physical and dominant, so it’s going to show Saturday,” Hayes said.

Oklahoma currently ranks No. 60 in rushing offense, averaging 171.8 rushing yards per game. The Cyclones have been especially stingy against the run, though Iowa State did surrender 207 rushing yards to Texas Tech last week.

Brooks and Oklahoma are remaining optimistic that the Sooners can find their physicality and establish the run game like they’re accustomed to in their final few games.

“Great teams have done it. Other teams that won championships, Super Bowls. There’s always something to work for. It’s not going to be perfect all the time. We’ve just got to keep working toward it,” Brooks said.

Oklahoma kicks off against Iowa State at 11 a.m. on FOX in the Sooners’ second consecutive Big Noon Kickoff.

Sooners LB Caleb Kelly to make an appearance on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff

With his OU playing career coming to a close, Sooners’ Linebacker Caleb Kelly looks to be making his broadcasting debut this week.

It was a disappointing way to end his time with the Oklahoma Sooners, but veteran linebacker Caleb Kelly isn’t letting it slow him down. The veteran linebacker has still been out at practice according to Head Coach Lincoln Riley and continues to make his presence felt as a leader of the squad.

Riley when speaking to the media on Tuesday said, “Yeah, it’s horrible man. But, honestly, it’s probably been made easier by his willingness to just accept it and just bounce right along. He’s been out at practice with a smile on his face. Been around the guys. Same energy.”

Riley added, “Hasn’t really changed him. I think for him, it’s just a recognition that it’s kind of time for the next chapter in his life. He’s not sitting there dwelling on it or poor me. Great example to a lot of people because a lot of people wouldn’t handle it that well. He’s been great and that’s why whatever he chooses to do next, he’s going to be pretty darn good at it.”

Could that next thing that Riley’s talking about be in the broadcast booth? Caleb Kelly’s about to get an opportunity.

After he made it known that his playing days in Norman were over, Kelly reached out to his first coach at the University of Oklahoma, Bob Stoops, about making an appearance on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff.  With Big Noon Kickoff set to take place in Norman, it looks like the fan favorite will be getting his wish as former head coach and Fox studio analyst Bob Stoops is making it happen for this Saturday.

It’s certainly not the way anyone would have written the story of Caleb Kelly’s career at Oklahoma. Especially the ending. But Kelly continues to prove time and time again what a difference maker he is. This time, it’s the attitude he’s taken from this latest injury. Kelly’s not letting it be a setback, instead using it to turn the page into the next chapter of his life.

WATCH: The Wisconsin Badgers are Matt Leinart’s team to watch in 2021

FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff hosts discussed which Big Ten teams are worth watching next season. Matt Leinart chose Wisconsin football as his

During FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff today the hosts discussed which Big Ten teams are worth watching next season.

Several of the hosts chose Michigan due to the questions about their trajectory and head coach Jim Harbaugh possibly entering the hot seat after a rough 2020 season.

Former USC quarterback Matt Leinart, however, chose Wisconsin as his team to watch next season.

“If you look at this season, obviously a struggling season especially offensively,” Leinart said. “But you look at what they have coming back. Brady [Quinn], your quarterback you love Graham Mertz going through some growing pains this year but he’s got a ton of talent. Jalen Berger the true freshman running back is an absolute stud, he’s back. Defensively they’re always solid but you talk about recruiting, they have a top-20 recruiting class in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten going into next season. That’s pretty good for Wisconsin, so you better believe Paul Chryst will have this football team in the Big Ten conversation when it’s all said and done at the end of the season.”

High praise from the former USC star, and praise that is deserved with what this team has going for them heading into next season. The 2020 season has been a tough one for many reasons, but the future is extremely bright in Madison.

Urban Meyer, FOX College Football crew discuss whether Ohio State’s resume and lack of games should get them into the College Football Playoff

Ohio State will have played just 6 games when Playoff selections are made. Should OSU be considered? Urban Meyer and the FOX crew discuss.

It seems to be the topic above all other topics now in college football. Should Ohio State be considered as one of the four teams invited to all the College Football Playoff fun in 2020? Most would agree the eye-test (shudder) says that the Buckeyes are one of the four best teams, but the résumé currently shows just five games, and one against a ranked team, a win over a top-ten Indiana squad.

Other teams in other conferences have played many more, sometimes as many as eleven. Of course, Ohio State still has the Big Ten Championship Game to play against Northwestern this weekend (we hope), and that will give it another data point and win over a ranked team. But that’s still just a 6-0 record held up against an 11-1 Texas A&M, or potential two-loss conference champion elsewhere that has had to go through the fire many more times.

The FOX College Football crew discussed that very topic over the weekend and it’s pretty good stuff. “Everybody had their opinion,” OSU head coach Ryan Day said on another segment with FOX, but we believe some opinions count more than others.

We value what the guys on the Big Noon Kickoff set believe and say, so we’re bringing it to you. Long story short, they all pretty much disagree with head coach Dabo Swinny who was very critical of the number of games Ohio State has — and will play — come selection Sunday.

Click on the below video shared to FOX College Football’s Twitter account and have a watch/listen.

As a reminder, it’s all for naught if Ohio State can’t get over the one remaining hurdle of beating Northwestern Saturday in the Big Ten Championship Game. You can catch that game at Noon on FOX.

Ohio State vs. Indiana network, game time announced

According to a tweet from Joel Klatt, we now know when the potential top ten matchup between Ohio State and Indiana will take place.

We’re slowly getting the details of games on the 2020 Ohio State football schedule. The latest comes thanks to FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt who let it slip that the Buckeyes will host what is currently a top ten Indiana team at Noon two games from now.

OSU travels to Maryland this weekend, then will be the FOX Big Noon Kickoff Game of the Week when the Hoosiers invade the banks of the Olentangy on November 21.

As long as IU can take care of business on the road against Michigan State this coming week, there will be some surprisingly high stakes on the line the week after. Justin Fields against Indiana’s Michael Penix should be an intriguing quarterback matchup to keep an eye on.

The winner, somewhat surprisingly in the Hoosiers’ case, might have the inside track to the Big Ten East division title.
