We’ll give you the latest point spread, money line odds and over/under number, as well as the information you’ll need to make the smartest bet at BetMGM.

The game starts at 11 AM Central Time and can be seen on FOX or fuboTV.

The Scott Frost-less Cornhuskers stumble into the contest after falling 45-42 to Georgia Southern on Saturday. The loss was their eighth in their last nine games with seven of those losses coming by one possession. Unsurprisingly, Nebraska AD Trev Alberts announced Frost’s firing after Saturday’s loss while naming associate head coach Mickey Joseph as the Cornhuskers’ interim head coach. Frost finished his Nebraska coaching career with a 16-31 record and .340 winning percentage, the second-lowest of any Huskers football head coach who had held the role for more than four years. Nebraska’s lone win of the season was a 38-17 victory over FCS member North Dakota in Week 1.

Oklahoma is ranked No. 6 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25. The Sooners defeated UTEP 45-13 in Week 1 and Kent St. 33-3 in Week 2. Last season, Oklahoma put up a 10-2 record in the regular season, beating Oregon in the Alamo Bowl.

Last year, the No. 3-ranked Sooners squeaked by Nebraska 23-16 at home after the Huskers missed two field goals and an extra point that was blocked by Oklahoma and returned for a two-point conversion. The 2021 meeting marked the first time in 11 years that the two teams had clashed and Oklahoma leads the all-time series, which dates back to 1912, by a tally of 46-38.

Nebraska to honor 1983’s “The Scoring Explosion” team with alternate uniform

Nebraska will remember “The Scoring Explosion” squad with new threads for one game this season.

The University of Nebraska has unveiled their football team’s alternate uniforms when they host the Oklahoma Sooners on September 17th. The Huskers will honor the 1983 team known as “The Scoring Explosion.”

The ’83 squad was the top scoring offense in college football that year, averaging an astounding 50.3 points per game, while the defense gave up an average of 16.7 points per game. They would also score an NCAA record 654 points on the season, a record now held by the 2019 LSU Tigers. In addition, the team would boast an impressive roster of talent, including the 1983 Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier. He would run for a school-record 2,148 yards and 28 touchdowns for an average of 7.8 yards a rush. Quarterback Turner Gill would finish fourth for the Heisman throwing for 1,516 yards, 14 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He would also run for 531 yards and 11 touchdowns. The team also had both the first and second overall picks in the 1984 NFL Draft in Wide Receiver Irving Fryar (No. 1 – New England) and Offensive Lineman Dean Steinkuhler (No. 2 – Houston).

The ’83 squad finished the season with a 12-1 record and No. 2 national ranking after losing 31-30 to Miami in the Orange Bowl. The game famous for seeing head coach Tom Osborne, late in the fourth quarter, go for two and the win rather than kick the extra point to more than likely preserve a tie and a probable national championship. Instead, Osborne would be forced to wait 11 more years until he won his first title.

And now Nebraska will honor “The Scoring Explosion” with throwback uniforms during this season’s matchup with longtime rival Oklahoma.

Nebraska kicks off the season on August 27th against the Northwestern Wildcats in Dublin, Ireland. Below is a photo gallery looking back at just a few moments of the 1983 Nebraska Football season.

Nebraska fans not happy with the Oklahoma game kickoff time

Husker fans were not afraid to take to social media to express their displeasure at the game time against Oklahoma!!

Nebraska Football learned the kickoff times for seven of its 12 regular-season games earlier in the week. One game-time Husker fans were interested to see was the September 17 match-up in Lincoln against the Oklahoma Sooners. Unfortunately, the match-up will occur at 11:00 am on FOX, and to say Nebraska fans were less than pleased would be an understatement. Many of the Husker faithful took to social media in the days following their announcement to announce their disappointment. The general sentiment expressed is that in a match-up between two rivals with the history of these two schools, the game should be in prime time. Look below, and we have a sample of some of the tweets showing Nebraska fans expressing their frustration.

What If Nebraska Plays In 2020? The Schedule Might Be …

Can Nebraska really play in 2020? It’s still up in the air, but if it does, what could its schedule be?

Can Nebraska really play in 2020? It’s still up in the air, but if it does, what could its schedule be?

Can Nebraska really do this?

When the Big Ten presidents chose to cancel/postpone the 2020 fall college football season, Nebraska – along with Iowa – voted for it to be a go, and let’s just say it didn’t take it all that well.

So can Nebraska really play games outside of the Big Ten? Short answer, not really, but maybe.

There’s no way it can join another conference, and the only possible way this happens is with the Big Ten’s blessing – and if everyone gets their cut of the pie – but it could work.

Okay, so it couldn’t.

At the end of the day, the last thing the Big Ten needs is for Nebraska to go off and play, and then have to deal with Ohio State – who already said it wouldn’t play – Penn State, etc. screaming about wanting to come up with their own schedules.

But let’s get weird. Here’s how a Nebraska schedule could be, and it starts with three big assumptions.

1. Semantics matter. These have to be non-conference games; they can’t be Big 12 games.

2. The Big 12 will have to adjust. The conference will go to a 9+1 schedule, and some teams might have to fit in another game, or ditch the one it’s supposed to play. Which leads to …

3. All the games against the Big 12 have to be on the road. You think Oklahoma, Kansas State or Iowa State will want to travel to Lincoln in the midst of a conference season?

Also assume that all games start on September 26th, along with what the other Power Five leagues are trying to do.

Nebraska Football Schedule Idea

Sept. 5 OPEN

Sept. 12 OPEN

Sept. 19 OPEN

Sept. 26 at Oklahoma

The Sooners keep the Army game dumped and replace it with a whale of a nostalgic season opener against the Huskers.

Oct. 3 Liberty

Liberty might not be quite as flexible with its schedule as you might think. However, with the date against Bowling Green gone, this is open.

Oct. 10 Army

This was supposed to be the week the Huskers hosted Ohio State. Army is reconfiguring its slate – this is when it was supposed to play its now-cancelled game against Princeton.

Oct. 17 Air Force

The Falcons will likely get the go-ahead to play Army and Navy. There should be a way to add another game in place of the lost date with Hawaii.

Oct. 24 at Iowa State

This is Iowa State’s week off on the originally redone Big 12 slate.

Oct. 31 at Kansas

Like all of the Big 12 games on the possible Husker slate, it might have to be reworked. This is an open date for the Jayhawks on the original schedule.

Nov. 7 UCF

It makes no sense on a whole slew of levels, but if we’re going to get crazy, let’s have some fun. The Knights – at the moment – have an open game after the date with Florida A&M was canceled.

Nov. 14 BYU

BYU has the most flexibility of any of the likely options. Its date with San Diego State on the 14th is cancelled.

Nov. 21 New Mexico State

Big assumption: NMSU doesn’t cancel everything first. The Huskers would fine some Group of Five program happy to take this date if that happens.

Nov. 28 OPEN DATE

There has to be a built-in off week or two late in the season – this is it. Depending on the team and the matchup, a game could be moved here.

Dec. 5 at Kansas State

This might not be possible by the time you read this, but assume the Big 12 moves its championship to mid-to-late December and this date is open. Oklahoma isn’t going to play here – it’ll want to rest up for what it’ll assume is a trip to the title game – but a date in Manhattan to face the Wildcats would work.
