Washington shunned via a Super Bowl banner

It’s as if the NFL completely removed Washington’s rich Super Bowl history.

This week, someone displayed a blatant disregard for the Washington Redskins Super Bowl history.

Apparently, there were nylon parking lot banners representing NFL Super Bowls. When it came time to represent the 22nd Super Bowl, in which Washington defeated Denver 42-10, it was determined to remove the Redskins and Washington logos altogether.

The banner correctly stated Super Bowl XXII, displayed the Broncos logo, but instead of the Redskins logo they wore on their helmet for all five of Washington’s Super Bowls, the NFL logo was used instead.

Yes, someone or some group was attempting to distance themselves from the iconic logo. But even more, the decision-maker shunned Washington by not even choosing to use the current “W” logo of the Commanders.

What in the world was the person thinking who made such a decision?

“Let’s not give Washington the time of day.”

“Let’s give Washington the brush off.”

“Let’s shun and ignore Washington, even if they did win that Super Bowl in a 42-10 route.”

Is this going to be the future trend of the NFL? Will there be a move to remove Redskins Super Bowl history and NFL history in various ways?

What is the explanation for such shaming, scolding and scorn toward the players and coaches who won that Super Bowl as the Washington Redskins?

Washington sets prospective date for name change, though it is still vague

Washington’s website announced that the potential name change will be coming sometime in 2022, giving us our first glimpse at a date.

For the past half of a year or so, we’ve been under the impression that the Washington Football Team would only remain the Washington Football Team for so long, and that a name change — or the declaration that the name is here to stay — is coming at some point.

Well, this week the team dropped a little bit of a hint as to when that name change might come, though it doesn’t give us much information that we didn’t already know.

On the team website, Washington declared that “the future of Washington Football arrives in 2022.” This is the first time that a date, even a year, has been given for the name change.

Of course, we always believed that the name change would come sometime within the next one to two years, which would leave it landing somewhere in 2022. Now, though, we know for sure that we won’t learn anything new about the new mascot or team name until next calendar year.

When will the announcement come in 2022, though? My guess is somewhere during the offseason, likely the spring or summer.

Notre Dame’s Kmet Describes NFL Draft Week from Home

What do you do at mom and dad’s house?  Where and how will he watch the draft?  And is he especially hoping to play for his hometown Chicago Bears?  find out for yourself.

Welcome to NFL Draft week 2020.  It will be like any draft we’ve seen in recent years with no sold out venue and no bro-hugs between the latest draft picks and the NFL commissioner.  Instead it’ll all be done online, an exhibit in what much of the working world will be headed towards after “stay home” orders are lifted.

Notre Dame has 12 players hoping to have their name called between Thursday and Saturday with the likelihood of probably six of them being very good.  One of those is tight end Cole Kmet and he’ll probably be the first former Fighting Irish player to hear his name called, whether it be late Thursday night or sometime during rounds two or three on Friday.

Kmet did a video call with Mike Berman of NBC 5 Chicago over the weekend and detailed what the days ahead of this nontraditional draft.  What do you do at mom and dad’s house right now?  Where and how will he watch the draft?  And is he especially hoping to play for his hometown Chicago Bears?  find out for yourself.

Kmet is projected everywhere from late in the first round to not having his name called until the third per some experts.  Where do you think Kmet ends up and is there somewhere you’re especially hoping to see him go?

I’d love to see him go to his hometown Bears but I’d be lying if I said I had any faith in that organization to give him the best chance to succeed in the pros.

Notre Dame Makes Cut For Yet Another Top Tight End

Bowers is graded as the third best tight end in the 2021 class per 247Sports and measures out at 6-3, 225 pounds.

Notre Dame’s history as Tight End U doesn’t slow down, it just tends to reload and produce at very high levels year after year.  New head coach, new coordinators, quarterbacks and systems?  Doesn’t matter, even in some dark years tight ends still produce at Notre Dame and go on to the NFL with regularity.

Now Notre Dame is in the running for one of the best tight ends in the 2021 recruiting class as Brock Bowers, a four-star tight end announced his “top eight” on Sunday with Notre Dame making the cut.

The Napa, California has an interesting top eight with a five schools; Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and Washington, being on the west coast and Georgia, Notre Dame and Penn State pulling off the national pitch.

Bowers is graded as the third best tight end in the 2021 class per 247Sports and measures out at 6-3, 225 pounds.  Bowers is coming off a remarkable junior season as he pulled down 39 receptions for 1098 yards and 14 touchdowns while also rushing the ball 22 times for 316 yards and three scores.

Notre Dame has been loading up at the position in recent years, having both Michael Mayer (five-star) and Kevin Bauman (four-star) join their 2020 class.  The Fighting Irish do already have one tight end commit for the ’21 class in Cane Berrong of Hart County in Georgia, a 6-4, 230 pound prospect per 247.
