Chiefs LB Nick Bolton says team is ‘ready’ for rematch vs. Bengals

#Chiefs rookie LB Nick Bolton said the team knows what they’re up against in the AFC title game and that they’re ready for the rematch vs. #Bengals. | from @TheJohnDillon

[mm-video type=video id=01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept playlist_id=01eqbwa53mtds520q2 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept-a4d60ce5e1364fd859698ebe6176f19f.jpg]

After the Kansas City Chiefs dropped a key game to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17, few envisioned a rematch of the top teams in the playoffs.

Now just days prior to the AFC title game for all the marbles, the Chiefs are favored by a touchdown over a team they lost to during the regular season. Rookie linebacker Nick Bolton told reporters on Wednesday that Kansas City is primed and ready for the rematch.

After the first game between the two teams, Bolton expects the defense will need to put up an exceptional effort if the Chiefs are to get to their third-straight Super Bowl. Bolton spoke specifically about how the team had learned from the previous loss and looks to rebound with new knowledge to secure the win in an elimination game against such a capable opponent.

“It’s one of the biggest challenges that we’ve had playing this team,” Bolton said. “Quarterback’s playing outstanding, great under pressure, great getting out of the pocket. Three wide receivers, all of them do something a little bit special for the team. They’re all great pass catchers running after the catch, and also the running back, All-Pro running back. So, he’s good at making guys miss, jump cuts, cutbacks and bouncing off of blocks. He does it all, catching balls out of the backfield for them as well.”

The rookie is specifically dialed in on five key difference-makers on the Bengals’ offense. He knows he’ll have to match their mojo if the defense is to slow down Cincinnati.

“So, like I said, that’s five people on their offense for sure that come out and execute at a very high level,” Bolton continued. “Joe Mixon, Joe Burrow and the three wide receivers of course. That’s what we’re up for and we’re ready.”

Bolton’s confidence is admirable, but it’ll take more than words to defeat the upstart Bengals squad which might be the hottest team remaining in the entire playoff bracket. With Tyrann Mathieu’s presence on defense in limbo after he sustained a concussion in the effort against the Buffalo Bills, players like Bolton will need to step up and make their presence felt against an offense that lit them up earlier in the season.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire feeling healthy, fresh ahead of AFC championship game

#Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire spoke about missing games, his performance against the #Bills and feeling fresh for the AFC title game. | from @EdEastonJr

[mm-video type=video id=01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept playlist_id=01eqbwa53mtds520q2 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept-a4d60ce5e1364fd859698ebe6176f19f.jpg]

The Kansas City Chiefs are consistently praised for the dynamic passing game led by Patrick Mahomes. An often-overlooked factor in the team’s success is the running game providing positive yards and keeping opposing defense’s off-balance.

The versatility of Clyde Edwards-Helaire made him an excellent fit for the Chiefs offense since being selected in the 2020 NFL Draft. The former LSU running back has been very productive in his first two years with the Chiefs when he’s on the field and healthy, but those opportunities have been few and far between.

For instance, Edwards-Helaire wasn’t available during Week 17’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals due to a shoulder injury. He spoke with the media on Wednesday about the frustration of missing key games.

“I would say for some people, it might have been frustrating,” said Edwards-Helaire. “But I would just say it’s one of those things that comes with the game. I wouldn’t say a freak accident, but one I wasn’t really expecting to happen at the time and how it did happen. It’s just one of those injuries that I really didn’t know what was going on at the time, but once we were able to diagnose what was going on, as you said, it was the last two games of the season, we handled it how we needed to handle it and able to get me back in for this second round of playoffs.”

Edwards-Helaire was also out for the wild-card round victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers but returned last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. He rushed for 60 yards on seven carries, averaging 8.6 yards per rush, playing just 23 snaps. As healthy and energetic as he looked in the win, Edwards-Helaire knows he still isn’t 100 percent, and neither is any player on any team playing on championship Sunday.

“I would say nobody’s 100 percent, but I would just say having that fire of really not playing,” Edwards-Helaire said. “Everybody would say fresh when I came back from the knee injury, that was the first thing everybody was saying, but I come in day in, day out and still do the cardio and still doing all the work I needed to do those weeks in order to be on the field. . . Just sitting down on my back and chilling didn’t expose that, being able to do those things in between the lines when I needed to; the things that aren’t seen on TV kind of made me look the way I look. So, it was a lot of hard work that went into looking as good as I did.”

The Chiefs hope that Edwards-Helaire has a fresh day on Sunday as they look to defeat the Bengals en route to a third straight Super Bowl appearance. They’ll need him at his best if they’re to have their best chance at winning.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ heart rate data from thrilling win over Bills

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes uses WHOOP’s Strap 3.0 fitness tracker and his heart rate data from Sunday’s thrilling win over the #Bills is fascinating. | from @TheJohnDillon

[mm-video type=video id=01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept playlist_id=01eqbwa53mtds520q2 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept-a4d60ce5e1364fd859698ebe6176f19f.jpg]

The metrics of the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs are still coming out this week.

Advanced fitness and health wearable company WHOOP, which has been tracking Patrick Mahomes’ heart rate all season, shared insights into the star quarterback’s remarkable performance with new data sets released on Wednesday. In WHOOP’s release, they noted that Mahomes’ heart rate spiked at some interesting moments in the game, and referenced a tweet from the quarterback’s trainer:

“[As] shared by Mahomes’ trainer Bobby Stroupe on Twitter, Mahomes’ [heart rate] spiked when he was on the sideline watching Buffalo make their game-changing plays, and then also immediately after Mahomes made his clutch plays. His HR was low in the huddle and pre-snap, allowing his body and mind to be in a clear ‘flow state’ – helping him be at his best with the game on the line.”

WHOOP went on to break the numbers down further, detailing some of the key moments by the numbers on their monitor:

  • Average heart rate: 144 beats per minute (bpm).
  • Peak heart rate: 191 bpm during his first-quarter rushing TD.
  • Low heart rate: 79 bpm.

From 8:27 pm (1:54 left in the game) to 8:55 pm, Mahomes’ heart rate never dipped below 144 bpm. On Mahomes’ 64-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill (1:02 left in the game), his heart rate spike to 171 bpm when the Chiefs took a 33-29 lead. When the Bills took the 36-33 lead (13 seconds remaining) Mahomes’ heart rate was in the ‘flow state’ again. However, when Harrison Butker kicked the game-tying field goal, Mahomes’ heart rate shot up to 162 bpm.

Whoop also included Mahomes’ physical output and strain during the win, right down to the number of calories burned in the masterful performance.

“In total, Mahomes’ activity strain during the game was 18.8 with 2,347 calories burned, and his day strain was 20.4 (on a 0-21 scale). Over the 28 minutes of real-time spanning the frantic end of regulation and OT, his average heart rate was nearly 160 bpm.”

If there was any doubt that Mahomes left it all on the field against Buffalo, the numbers certainly seem to point toward full exertion in a remarkable effort to win one of the toughest matchups of his career.

Prices for Chiefs AFC championship game tickets have surged since 2018

The #Chiefs have hosted the AFC title game for the past four years and the ticket prices have gone up exponentially.

[mm-video type=video id=01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept playlist_id=01eqbwa53mtds520q2 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept/01fte5mg22vwec5w1ept-a4d60ce5e1364fd859698ebe6176f19f.jpg]

If you’re looking head to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for the AFC championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals you’ll be paying a pretty penny.

According to our friends at ticketIQ, the average ticket price on the secondary market is $1,034. The cheapest get-in ticket is currently listed at $536. The most expensive ticket that you’ll find listed is $5,901. The most expensive ticket sold so far was section 119 Row 2 at the 50 yard line, which went for $8512.

The get-in price is lower than it was in 2020, mainly because the conference championship game saw reduced capacity crowds amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Those get-in tickets for the Chiefs-Bills AFC championship game in 2020 reached $883 with crowds of around 17,000.

The last full capacity AFC championship game was the Chiefs’ thrilling win over the Tennessee Titans in the 2019-20 playoffs. The get-in ticket prices on the secondary market for those games were just $227. That means that the get-in ticket prices for the upcoming game against the Bengals have more than doubled since the last full capacity AFC championship game.

Going back to the first AFC championship game the team ever hosted against the New England Patriots in the 2018-19 season, get-in tickets were just $165. Those tickets were nearly a fourth of the price than the current tickets against the Bengals.

Based on ticketIQ’s tracking, the prices for this AFC title game have increased as much as 70% since just before kickoff for the Chiefs-Bills divisional round game on Sunday. They currently have this game ranked as the fourth-most expensive conference championship game since 2011.

Historically, ticket prices dip later in the week, but that didn’t happen last season. With prices higher than they’ve ever been with full capacity crowds, don’t expect those prices to decline by much as we inch closer towards Sunday.

Patriots’ Bill Belichick visited Bills locker room after wild-card game

Some respect between Bill and Sean:

[mm-video type=video id=01fsw2h5ppjmya6hw6eb playlist_id=01eqbw1j59gmjw5gdj player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fsw2h5ppjmya6hw6eb/01fsw2h5ppjmya6hw6eb-e5934db4f5a2daa09877139ee374a8f4.jpg]

Evidently Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick are much cooler than we once thought.

Wild-card weekend saw the Bills rout the Patriots in a 47-17 final. Afterword, a report surfaced that Belichick headed toward Buffalo’s locker room and New England’s bench boss spent a long while there.

Per NFL Network’s Mike Giaradi, Belichick went therre after his press conference for “an extended period.”

In doing so, Belichick shows that it’s all water under the bridge with McDermott after earlier this season.

After a 14-10 Pats win in Orchard Park between these two teams, McDermott downplayed Belichick’s impact. He later went on to clarify that he meant no disrespect by the comments toward Belichick.

Considering McDermott would very much be aware Belichick was there in his team’s locker room, signs point to a mutual respect being shared. Belichick and McDermott sharing this moment behind closed doors comes around the same time a few players were noticed on the field sharing doing the same.

Including that bunch was Bills quarterback Josh Allen clearly encouraging Patriots rookie QB Mac Jones.

While fans off the field in Buffalo and Boston might not like each other, it looks like the two teams have much respect toward one another.

For more on Belichick’s trip to the Bills locker room, here’s a discussion on it from The Pat McAfee Show this week:
