March Madness: Florida State vs. Colorado odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Colorado Buffaloes vs. Florida State Seminoles odds and lines, with March Madness Round 2 picks and predictions.

The 5-seed Colorado Buffaloes (23-8) meet the 4-seed Florida State Seminoles (17-6) Monday in the second round of the East Regional at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET and will broadcast on TBS. Below, we analyze the Florida State-Colorado odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Florida State held off 13-seed UNC Greensboro Saturday for a 64-54 first-round win in a game closer than the final score indicates as the Spartans covered as 10.5-point underdogs.

However, the Seminoles won despite being outrebounded on the offensive glass 11-5, losing the turnover battle 15-10 and missing all nine 3-point shots.

The Buffaloes boat raced 12-seed Georgetown in the first round 96-73, easily covering as 9-point favorites.

Colorado was on fire, hitting 61% of its field goals (16-for-25 from behind the arc) and Buffaloes All-Pac-12 first team PG McKinley Wright IV notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists.

This is the third straight NCAA Tournament Florida State at least won its first-round game and just the second time Colorado has advanced to the second round of the Big Dance in coach Tad Boyle’s 11 seasons on the job.

Against the spread (ATS)

The market hasn’t been a believer in No. 22 Colorado all season, and the Buffaloes continue to prove the market wrong.

Colorado has an 18-13 ATS record this season with a plus-3.1-point ATS margin, 3-1 ATS against ranked foes and 5-2 ATS vs. non-conference opponents with a plus-10.7-point ATS margin.

Also, Florida State’s resume looks a little less impressive now compared to before the NCAA Tournament whereas Colorado’s is more formidable.

For instance, three of the Seminoles’ four regular-season opponents that made the Big Dance were eliminated in the first round (all ACC teams).

While the Buffaloes’ victories over UCLA and USC look more impressive since both teams also advanced to the second round.

TAKE COLORADO +1.5 (-110) for 1.25 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN toward OVER 140.5 (-110) because Colorado’s offense is in rhythm. The Buffaloes have the highest free-throw percentage in the nation, and Florida State’s defense is ranked 298th in FTA/FG rate.

So even if Colorado has an off-shooting night, the Buffaloes can rack up easy points at the charity stripe.

Furthermore, Florida State’s offense should have a bounce-back shooting performance from the first-round game when the Seminoles bricked all their 3-point attempts.

BET OVER 140.5 (-110) for a half-unit.

March Madness: Florida State vs. UNC Greensboro odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Florida State Seminoles vs. UNC Greensboro Spartans odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The 4-seed Florida State Seminoles (16-6) face the 13-seed UNC Greensboro Spartans (21-8) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Saturday for a 12:45 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Florida State-UNC Greensboro odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Florida State came up just short in the ACC Tournament final against Georgia Tech, falling 80-75 in a non-cover. They limp into the game with three losses in the past five overall, and they’re just 1-3-1 ATS during the stretch. The Over is 7-2 over the previous nine games for the Seminoles, and the Over is 6-2-1 in their nine games against teams in the NCAA Tournament field.

UNC Greensboro beat all three of its opponents in the Southern Conference tournament by at least eight points, including 69-61 in the final against Mercer. While their overall record is impressive, their strength of schedule was just 114th, and they faced only one NCAA Tournament team. They lost that game to the Winthrop Eagles by a 75-67 count Dec. 1 as six-point favorites.

Florida State vs. UNC Greensboro: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Florida State 79 UNC Greensboro 71

Money line (ML)

Florida State (-650) will cost you six-and-a-half times your potential return, and that’s risky business on a team that has dropped three of its past five games overall. AVOID.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

UNC GREENSBORO +10.5 (-110) will hang around in this one. While I don’t think they have the horses to oust Leonard Hamilton’s Florida State -10 (-110) side, the Spartans will keep it to single digits. The Seminoles just haven’t been consistent against the number, going 3-5-2 ATS in the previous 10 overall, including 0-2-2 ATS in the past four against winning teams.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 144.5 (-110) is the lean in this one, as the Seminoles are a good 3-point shooting team, and neither side is particularly strong defensively. The Over is also 7-2-1 across the past 10 as a favorite for FSU, while the Over is 5-1 in Greensboro’s past six as an underdog, so the trends are in agreement, too.

  • Over/Under: 153.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Florida State at Notre Dame: Three things to know

  1. Florida State has won five of its last six games (3-2-1 ATS) but lost its previous road game 78-70 to North Carolina Feb. 27. Over those six games, the Seminoles are shooting 42.4% from 3-point land and holding opponents to 12.2 assists per game while forcing 14.2 turnovers on average.
  2. The Fighting Irish have lost and failed to cover in four straight because their defense is getting rolled. Notre Dame is allowing 79.5 points per on 48% shooting (41.2% from deep) and is only forcing 7.5 turnovers per in the last four games.
  3. The Seminoles have beaten the Fighting Irish in three consecutive meetings, but their last win snapped Notre Dame’s 6-game ATS winning streak between the two.

Florida State at Notre Dame: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Florida State 81, Notre Dame 77

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight lean on Notre Dame (+240) because I’m on the Fighting Irish plus the points and, generally, I’ll sprinkle on an underdog’s money line if taking them to cover the spread.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Road splits indicate the Seminoles are much scarier at home than on the road and they are just 2-3-1 ATS in away games.

Furthermore, Notre Dame’s starting lineup is full of upperclassmen who’ve played well against Florida State over the years.

Notre Dame PG Prentiss Hubb, the team’s leading scorer and the ACC leader in assists per game, has averaged 21.6 points per game in his three outings against Florida State.

Officially, I lean NOTRE DAME +7.5 (-125) for a half-unit to keep this game close.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 153.5 (-110) is my favorite play in Florida State-Notre Dame because the Fighting Irish’s defense is one of the worst in the nation, but their offense should have some success in this spot.

Florida State is 268th in defensive 3-point attempt rate and 203rd in 3-point defense. Notre Dame is 43rd in 3-point attempt rate and 50th in 3-point shooting.

GIMME OVER 153.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Boston College at Florida State odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Boston College at Florida State odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston College Eagles (4-13 overall, 2-9 ACC) visit the Florida State Seminoles (14-4, 10-3) in a Wednesday night (9 p.m. ET) contest at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Below, we analyze the Boston College-Florida State odds and lines, with NCAA college basketball picks and predictions.

Florida State is No. 11 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Boston College at Florida State: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Boston College +1350 (bet $100 to win $1,350) | Florida State -5000 (bet $5,000 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Boston College +18.5 (-110) | Florida State -18.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 154.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Boston College at Florida State: Three things to know

  1. Florida State leads the ACC in scoring at 79.2 points per game. The Seminoles have been held under 78 points just three times since Dec. 21. They lost all three of those games, and that includes a 78-70 loss to North Carolina on Saturday.
  2. Boston College defeated Notre Dame, 94-90, Saturday, thus snapping a four-game losing skid. That game was at home; BC is 0-5 in true road games this season. The Eagles are 1-8 in away-neutral games.
  3. No team in the ACC has yielded more than the Eagles’ 78.3 PPG this season. Boston College has coughed up a 56.8% mark on 2-point field goals; that percentage ranks last in the conference and 341st in NCAA-I.

STEER CLEAR of the big tag on the Seminoles and the fantasy-island proposition on the Eagles.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Boston College is 5-1 ATS in its last five road games. FSU is 5-1 ATS in its last six at home. The Eagles are dealing with a lot of injuries, and this game could get into the deep part of both benches for long stretches in the second half.

For the ‘Noles, this game is wedged between a hard-fought loss at UNC and a an impending important road game at Notre Dame. The talented home five may well win this game by 22, but a 17-point win would not be the slightest surprise.

PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The best option for this contest is a wait-and-see on the total. Both teams play a high-tempo game, but if this tag would get a tad higher there would be room for profit in shading the Under.

TAKE THE UNDER 154.5 (-110); look for a total of 156 to find some leverage.

Florida State at North Carolina odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Florida State Seminoles at North Carolina Tar Heels odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The North Carolina Tar Heels (14-8, 8-5 ACC) host the No. 9 Florida State Seminoles (14-3, 10-2) for an ACC battle at Dean Smith Center. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Florida State-North Carolina odds and lines, with NCAA college basketball picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Florida State at North Carolina: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Florida State -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | North Carolina +135 (bet $100 to win $135)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Florida State -3.5 (-105) | North Carolina +3.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 151.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Florida State at North Carolina: Three things to know

  1. Florida State has rattled off four straight wins and has nine victories in its last 10 games (7-2-1 ATS). The stretch includes a 21-point beatdown of then-No. 8 Virginia as a 2-point home favorite and an 82-75 victory over North Carolina last month.
  2. North Carolina split its last four games with each ending in a double-digit margin one way or the other. The Tar Heels got trounced 83-70 their last time out by the Big East’s Marquette as 9.5-point home favorites.
  3. The Seminoles have won three of their last four against the Tar Heels but North Carolina is 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings.

Florida State at North Carolina: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Florida State 84, North Carolina 72

Money line (ML)

PASS with a lean on Florida State (-160) only because this price is on the fringe of a money line favorite I’d play in the regular season.

For the record, I wouldn’t hate taking the Seminoles to win outright and/or including their money line in a parlay with Texas Tech.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

BET FLORIDA STATE -3.5 (-105) because North Carolina was handled in the first meeting and had a lot in its favor entering the game. The Seminoles were without star freshman PG Scottie Barnes and the Tar Heels had a rebounding mismatch they couldn’t exploit.

North Carolina grabs the most offensive rebounds per game (15.0) in the country while Florida State is 265th in opponent’s offensive rebounds per game (10.7). The Seminoles are 29th in defensive field-goal percentage at the rim, according to Hoop-Math.com, so they aren’t sweating North Carolina getting second chances.

Also, Florida State is the 11th best 3-point shooting team in the nation and North Carolina has the 283rd ranked 3-point defense. Lastly, the Seminoles are 246th in defensive free-throw rate and the Tar Heels have the 322nd-highest free-throw percentage.

BET FLORIDA STATE -3.5 (-105) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

I feel very strongly Florida State will have success executing its offense, especially with Barnes active for this game, and the Seminoles’ 3-point defense is a little sketchy as well.

The Tar Heels knocked down 41.7% of their threes in the first head-to-head meeting so when you combine North Carolina’s offensive rebounding edge and Florida State’s shaky 3-point defense that should equal a decent offensive performance from the Tar Heels.

Lean OVER 151.5 (-110) for a half-unit.

Florida State at Pittsburgh odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Florida State at Pittsburgh odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Florida State Seminoles (12-3 overall, 8-2 ACC) visit the Pittsburgh Panthers (9-8, 5-7) in a Saturday matinee (4 p.m. ET) at the Petersen Events Center. Below, we analyze the Florida State-Pittsburgh college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Florida State is No. 16 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Florida State at Pittsburgh: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Florida State -275 (bet $275 to win $100) | Pittsburgh +220 (bet $100 to win $220)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Florida State -5.5 (-120) | Pittsburgh +5.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 146.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Florida State at Pittsburgh: Three things to know

  1. The Seminoles are coming off a monster 81-60 win over Virginia Monday. FSU went 13-of-24 (54.2%) from 3-point range in posting the most points against UVA since Dec. 26. For the season, the ‘Noles rank first in the ACC with a 39.8% accuracy mark from beyond the arc.
  2. Pitt gets a lot of hidden points in two ways. The Panthers are one of the top offensive rebounding/second-chance teams in the ACC, and only a handful of teams in the nation get to the free-throw line with more frequency.
  3. Saturday’s contest has Pittsburgh looking for its fifth straight home win over Florida State. The last Seminole victory at Pitt was a 71-66 win on Feb. 23, 2014. Since then, the Panthers are 4-0 straight-up and 4-0 ATS in home series games.

Florida State 79, Pittsburgh 71

Against the spread (ATS)

Pitt has lost six of its last seven; FSU has just played twice this month and is on the road for just the third time this season. Tag the ‘Noles with a slight lean on points and price. But tread lightly; there isn’t more than a low-confidence lean here.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over is 7-1-1 in the Seminoles’ last nine overall. The Panthers have been shaky on defense of late. Both teams can hit the offensive glass and get a ton of points at the foul line. And FSU can rain 3s.

Peg this contest as getting into the 150s as likely as anything else. TAKE THE OVER 146.5 (-110).

Virginia at Florida State odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Virginia Cavaliers at Florida State Seminoles odds and lines, with college basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The ninth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers (15-3 overall, 11-1 ACC) visit the 17th-ranked Florida State Seminoles (11-3, 7-2) in a Big Monday matchup. Tip-off for the Top 25 showdown is slated for 7 p.m. ET at Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Below, we analyze the Virginia-Florida State college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of last week’s Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The new poll will be released Monday afternoon.

The Cavaliers sit atop the ACC with an 11-1 conference record. The Seminoles are 7-2 and in second place, 2.5-games back.

Virginia at Florida State: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:25 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Florida State -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia +2.5 (-125) | Florida State -2.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 129.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Virginia at Florida State: Three things to know

  1. Virginia enters on a 4-game win streak since falling at Virginia Tech 65-51 for its only ACC loss. The Cavaliers beat North Carolina 60-48 as 7-point home favorites Saturday. The defense held the Tar Heels to 18 first-half points, and senior F Jay Huff led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Huff averages 13.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, just behind senior F Sam Hauser (15.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG).
  2. Florida State needed overtime to fend off upset-minded Wake Forest 92-85 Saturday, failing to cover as a 13-point home favorite. It was the Seminoles’ first game since a 76-65 loss at Georgia Tech Jan. 30 due to COVID-19 issues. Against Wake, freshman G Scottie Barnes tied it at 80-all with 0.5 seconds, driving the length of the floor for a reverse layup. The ‘Noles then scored eight of the first nine points in overtime to put the Demon Deacons away. Junior F RaiQuan Gray tallied 24 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs. Senior G M.J. Walker leads FSU in scoring with 13.7 PPG.
  3. The rivals split last season’s series with the home team prevailing. Virginia won 61-56 as a 2-point underdog, and 13 days earlier, FSU claimed a 54-50 decision but failed to cover as a 6.5-point favorite.

Virginia at Florida State: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Florida State 64, Virginia 61

Money line (ML)

PASS. Florida State (-135) gets the nod at home, but the projection focus is on the spread.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

FLORIDA STATE -2.5 (+105) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Seminoles don’t lose in Tallahassee. They’ve won a school-record 23 consecutive ACC home games, the second-longest such streak in conference history behind Duke’s 26 wins between 1997-2000.

The ‘Noles are also 12-2 straight up in their last 14 home games vs. the Cavs.

ATS: Virginia 10-7-1 | Florida State 8-6

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 129.5 (-105) is worth a HALF-UNIT wager. Virginia has held FSU to 69 points or fewer in 19 consecutive meetings.

While Virginia’s defense allows 58.8 PPG to rank fourth in the country, Florida State’s offense leads the ACC at 79.1 PPG, including 80.4 PPG in conference games.

The fear is that this line will drop by tip-off and the game could go Over with late trips to the foul line.

O/U records: Virginia 9-9 | Florida State 8-4-2
