March Madness: Colorado State vs. Virginia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado State vs. Virginia odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 10 seed Colorado State Rams (24-10) face off against the 10th-seeded Virginia Cavaliers (23-10) in a First Four game in the NCAA Tournament Tuesday. Tip from UD Arena in Dayton is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Colorado State vs. Virginia odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Colorado State won 4 straight games to end the regular season, before falling 74-61 to eventual champion New Mexico in the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament Friday. It failed to cover the spread as a 2.5-point underdog, and the Under (153.5) cashed. The Rams were 3-7 against the spread (ATS) over their last 10 and 16-16 ATS for the season.

The Cavaliers were a mixed bag down the stretch of the regular season, going 4-4 over their last 8. Virginia fell 73-65 to eventual champion North Carolina State in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament Friday. It didn’t cover the spread as a 2.5-point favorite, and the Over (122.5) cashed. It went 5-5 in its last 10 games ATS and 17-15 ATS this season.

Colorado State vs. Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

Colorado State 65, Virginia 61

Moneyline

PASS.

I’ve got the Rams (-142) winning this game, but taking a closer at the odds, I’ll place my bet on the spread because I’m paying less juice. When the line is only -2.5 like this one, there’s not that much of a difference between the moneyline and the spread.

Against the spread

BET COLORADO STATE -2.5 (-110).

Colorado State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7, but when the line is this small, I’m more worried about its recent play. It has won 4 of its last 5 coming into this game.

Virginia scares me in this tournament because it has so many problems scoring; it finished last in the ACC in points per game (63.6). We all remember when the No. 1 Cavaliers lost to No. 16 UMBC in the 1st round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Defense is great, but you need to score to win games, especially in a format like this one.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 120.5 (-115).

Colorado State has not seen a total this low all season. The lowest one it saw was 133, and that game went Over. It averages over 75 points per game on the season.

Virginia had totals set in the 120s for both games in the ACC Tournament, and both games went Over. It also went Over in 2 of its last 3 regular-season games. The Cavaliers have also gone Over the total in 2 of their last 3 NCAA tournament games.

Virginia at Duke odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Virginia at Duke odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Virginia Cavaliers (21-8, 12-6 ACC) and Duke Blue Devils (22-6, 13-4) meet Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Virginia vs. Duke odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cavaliers topped Boston College on the road last time out Wednesday, winning 72-68 as 1-point favorites as the Over (126) cashed. It snapped a 2-game skid and an 0-4 against-the-spread (ATS) nosedive. The Over also halted a 3-game run to the Under.

This is the 1st time these teams have met at Cameron since Feb. 7, 2022, a 69-68 win by UVA as an 11-point underdog as the Over (128.5) cashed. The Hoos have been a thorn in the side of the Dukies. They’ve gone 2-2 straight up and 3-1 ATS in the past 4 trips to Durham and 6-3 ATS in the past 9 in the series.

The Blue Devils recovered from that ugly 83-79 loss at Wake Forest where the Deacs fans stormed the court and C Kyle Filipowski was involved in a post-game shoving incident and apparent injury. He played against Louisville Wednesday, and Duke took out its aggression on the poor Cardinals in an 84-59 win and cover as a 20.5-point favorite.

Duke enters 6-1 ATS in the past 7 games, while the Under is 6-1 in the span. The lone non-cover and Over result was against Wake Forest in the upset loss.

Duke is No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

  • Against the spread: Virginia +9.5 (-114) | Duke -9.5 (-106)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 124.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Virginia at Duke picks and predictions

Prediction

Duke 65, Virginia 58

Moneyline

Duke (-490) will cost you nearly 5 times your potential return, and that’s quite risky considering how tough Virginia (+365) has played it, especially at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

This figures to be a defensive grind all day long, and Duke will do well just to get the victory outright against the offensively-challenged, but defensively-gifted Hoos.

PASS.

Against the spread

VIRGINIA +9.5 (-114) always seems to play its best when it sees Duke -9.5 (-106) on the floor. The Cavaliers have cashed in 6 of the past 9 meetings in this series while going 3-1 ATS in the past 4 trips to Durham in front of the Cameron Crazies.

While UVA is just 1-4 ATS in the past 5 outings, it is a respectable 7-5-1 ATS across the previous 13. In addition, it is 5-1 ATS in the past 6 road games, too.

For Duke, it is 6-1 ATS in the past 7 outings, so it won’t be easy for Virginia. But again, the Cavaliers always seem to play the Blue Devils tough, and Duke is just 4-3 ATS in the past 7 at home.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 124.5 (-115) is a low number, but it’s the lean in this ACC rivalry game.

We’ve seen Duke cash the Under in 6 of the past 7 games, and the total has gone low in each of the past 5 outings in front of the home fans.

Virginia has hit the Under in 3 of the past 4 outings, including 2 games from Feb. 19-24 which saw the Cavaliers average just 42.5 PPG.

Virginia at North Carolina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Virginia at North Carolina odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Virginia Cavaliers (1-5, 0-2 ACC) and North Carolina Tar Heels (6-0, 3-0) meet Saturday at Kenan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET (CW Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Virginia vs. North Carolina odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Cavaliers have been hot garbage for most of the season. While they picked up a feel-good 27-13 win against William & Mary of the FCS to earn their first victory of the season, Virginia is still winless in 5 tries against FBS opponents. On a positive note, it has covered in each of its 2 ACC outings.

The Tar Heels cracked the Top 10 with a 40-7 thumping of Syracuse 2 weeks ago. UNC has not only won all 6 games, but the Tar Heels have posted 3 straight wins inside the conference by 10 or more points, while winning 4 straight by 10+ points. UNC has covered 4 in a row, too.

North Carolina is No. 10 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 57.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Virginia at North Carolina picks and predictions

Prediction

North Carolina 45, Virginia 20

Moneyline

North Carolina (-2500) will cost you 25 times your potential return, or in other words, $4 profit for every $100 risked. If you need $4 that badly, go turn in some aluminum cans, or buy a metal detector and check for coins at the beach. Anything is better than risking that much for so little.

AVOID.

Against the spread

NORTH CAROLINA -23.5 (-115) is a risky play in this one, believe it or not. This is the longest-running rivalry in the South, as these teams meet for the 129th time. UNC leads the all-time series 66-58-4, while Virginia +23.5 (-105) has won 4 of the past 6.

That all being said, go with the Tar Heels. They’re a top-10 team, putting up 31 or more points in every game this season. Virginia is in bad shape, although it has covered 3 straight, including both ACC games. I just think QB Drake Maye and the offense picks this Hoos team apart, however.

Over/Under

OVER 57.5 (-115) is the play for this ACC tangle at Kenan, and UNC should do most of the heavy lifting to the total across the finish line.

This is a team which has posted 31 or more points in every game this season. Virginia has allowed 24 or more points in all 5 games against FBS opponents, cashing the Over at a 4-1 clip in those outings. Go high, and feel confident in doing so.

NC State at Virginia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s NC State at Virginia odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The NC State Wolfpack (2-1, 0-0 ACC) visit the Virginia Cavaliers (0-3, 0-0) Friday at Scott Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the NC State vs. Virginia odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Wolfpack started off a little sluggish in a 24-14 win at UConn on Aug. 31, failing to cover as 14.5-point favorites. They returned home Sept. 9, losing to Notre Dame in a soggy, wet mess of a 45-24 loss, failing to cover as 7-point ‘dogs. NC State rebounded with a 45-7 win over VMI of the FCS on Saturday, but again failed to cover, this time as a 43-point favorite.

QB Brennan Armstrong, who is the all-time leading passer for Virginia, transferred to NC State following former Hoos offensive coordinator Robert Anae to Raleigh in the offseason.

The Cavaliers are still searching for their first victory in 3 tries. UVA lost by 28 or more points in 2 games against Tennessee and Maryland. It plays the 2nd home game, looking to atone for a 36-35 loss to James Madison Sept. 9. The Hoos led 35-24 after 3 quarters, but the Dukes outscored them 12-0 in the final frame, including the go-ahead TD with 55 seconds left in regulation.

NC State at Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

NC State 29, Virginia 16

Moneyline

NC State (-400) will cost you 4 times your potential return, and that’s quite expensive on an offense that has sputtered at times. While I expect Armstrong to perform well against his former team, I think Virginia (+310) also brings a little extra intensity early against its former signal caller.

PASS.

Against the spread

NC STATE -9.5 (-110) is worth a play in this ACC opener. Virginia has struggled mightily against Power 5 teams, averaging 13.5 points per game (PPG), while allowing 45.5 PPG.

Playing the Wolfpack comes with some risk, however, as they’re 0-3 ATS through the first 3 games. However, the Hoos have covered just the game against James Madison and are 0-2 ATS in 2 games against Power 5 teams.

Over/Under

UNDER 48.5 (-110) is worth playing, but be cautious.

While NC State has cashed the Under in 2 of 3 games to date, including its first road game, Virginia has hit the Over in all 3 outings. The Cavaliers have allowed 36 or more points in all 3 games, including 42 or more points in the 2 games against Power 5 foes.

Virginia vs. Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Virginia vs. Tennessee odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Virginia Cavaliers and the Tennessee Volunteers open the regular season at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ABC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Virginia vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

While technically this is a neutral-site game, don’t be mistaken. There will be plenty of burnt orange in the stands in the Music City, and few supporters of the Hoos, making this a home game for the Vols.

Virginia won just 3 games last season under new coach Tony Elliott, and the team canceled 2 games due to the terrible shooting deaths of 3 Cavaliers players. It was an awful season on and off the field in Charlottesville.

The bad news is that UVA has just 9 total starters returning, QB Brennan Armstrong is now under center for ACC rival NC State, and the offense is in shambles. The defense has some talent, especially along the defensive line, but if the offense can’t maintain long drives, the D will get tired out quickly.

The Volunteers enter the new campaign as a top-10 team. While Tennessee lost QB Hendon Hooker to the NFL, QB Joe Milton III is more than capable of running the offense, and running it well. He’ll have to do without WR Jalin Hyatt, also NFL-bound, but he still has WRs Bru McCoy and Squirrel White at his disposal.

Tennessee is No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Virginia vs. Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 45, Virginia 13

Moneyline

Tennessee (-5000) is going to win this game, and win it handily, but no one needs $2 bad enough to risk $100. Not even the kid from Better Off Dead wants $2 that much.

PASS.

Against the spread

TENNESSE -28 (-110) laying 4 TDs seems like a lot. But the Volunteers have a prolific offense with plenty of downfield threats, while Virginia +28 (-110) will apply very little pressure from its defensive front, and the Hoos will offer very little resistance as a whole.

The Cavaliers are in shambles on offense, and it’s hard to see them getting much more than into the teens.

Over/Under

OVER 56.5 (-105) is the lean, but go lightly.

While I expect Tennessee to be able to score at will, I have my doubts that Virginia will contribute very much to the scoring. Do the Vols have enough on offense to do most of the heavy lifting to get this across the finish line? Maybe. I think the Vols get well into the 40’s, but the 50’s might be a bit ambitious in the opener. Still, go high, just be careful.

The 13-seed Furman Paladins (27-7) face the 4-seed Virginia Cavaliers (25-7) Thursday in a 1st Round South Region game in the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off from Amway Center in Orlando is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Furman vs. Virginia odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Paladins won the Southern Conference tournament title with a solid 88-79 victory over Chattanooga on March 6. Furman has won 6 straight games and is 14-5 against the spread (ATS) across its last 19 games overall.

Furman played 2 teams in the NCAA Tournament field this season — NC State and Penn State — losing and failing to cover either matchup. The loss to the Wolfpack, its only ACC opponent, came by 19 points on Dec. 13 in Raleigh.

The Cavaliers came up short in the ACC Tournament championship game against Duke on Saturday (59-49). The Hoos are just 4-3 straight-up (SU) across the past 7 games and 2-6-1 ATS across the past 9 games.

[afflinkbutton text=”Watch Virginia vs Furman” link=”https://sling-tv.pxf.io/KjKy3A”]

Virginia is 4-4 SU and ATS in 8 games against teams in the NCAA Tournament field, including a victory over 3-seed Baylor.

Furman vs. Virginia picks and predictions

Virginia 70, Furman 61

Moneyline

Virginia (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk for not enough reward.

PASS.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

VIRGINIA -5.5 (-110) is the play. Furman is the sexy pick based on its impressive ATS record this season, but who has it really played? In 2 games against NCAA Tournament teams, the Paladins are 0-2 SU/ATS, losing by an average margin of 12.0 PPG.

It will also be in the back of everyone’s mind that UVA is the only team to lose to a 16-seed in the men’s tournament, so right or wrong, people tend to doubt the Cavaliers. However, this is a good team — especially defensively — and Virginia will hold down a Furman team that has rolled up big numbers in the SoCon.

Don’t think too much and be too fancy with the upsets. Furman has played nobody, and it isn’t on the same level as Virginia.

Over/Under

UNDER 132.5 (-108) is the lean, but tread lightly.

Furman has put up 79 or more points in 9 of its last 11 games, but it hasn’t faced a lockdown and frustrating defense like Virginia.

The Under is 8-2 in the past 10 neutral-site games for the Hoos and is 5-2 in their last 7 NCAA Tournament games.

ACC Tournament: Duke vs. Virginia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Duke vs. Virginia odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 21 Duke Blue Devils (25-8) face the No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers (25-6) Saturday in the ACC Tournament championship. Tip from Greensboro Coliseum is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Duke vs. Virginia odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Blue Devils covered as 2.5-point favorites in Friday’s 85-78 victory over No. 13 Miami. Duke is currently on an 8-game win streak and is 4-1 against the spread over its last 5 outings.

The Cavaliers beat Clemson 76-56 Friday to cover as 3-point favorites as the Over (126.5) connected. Virginia has won 4 games in a row and 8 of its last 10 contests but is just 4-5-1 ATS along that stretch.

This will be the second meeting between Duke and Virginia this season. The Cavaliers secured a 69-62 overtime victory to cover as 6-point home favorites and the Over (126) connected on Feb. 11.

OVER 123.5 (-105) is how I’d bet the total despite that both squads have strong defenses. Duke has scored 77 or more points in 5 of its last 7 games and has made 76.8% of its free-throw attempts this season (23rd in the nation).

The Blue Devils are 4-2 to the Over in their last 6 games overall and the Cavaliers are 4-1 to the Over as underdogs this season.

Against the spread

LEAN CLEMSON +2.5 (+100).

The Tigers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning outright record, and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 games following an outright win of 20 or more points.

Virginia is just 1-5-1 ATS in its last 7 games and 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games following an outright win.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 126.5 (-110).

Both teams’ strength is defense.

For Clemson, the Under is 4-1 in its last 5 Friday games and 2-1 in its last 3 games.

The Under is 7-1 in the Cavaliers’ last 8 neutral-site games, 4-1 in their last 5 games following an outright win, and 6-3 in their last 9 games. Virginia tends to maintain a slow pace in games, which will help the Under to hit.

North Carolina vs. Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

Virginia 71, North Carolina 65

Moneyline

BET VIRGINIA (-135).

North Carolina desperately needs a win to have any chance of clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament. That being said, Virginia is 15-5 against ACC opponents this season.

Against the spread

VIRGINIA -2.5 (-105) is the pick with it not being a massive spread for the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are 2-0 ATS at a neutral site this season; the Tar Heels are 2-3-1 ATS on neutral courts.

North Carolina is 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games following an ATS win, and the favorite is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings.

Over/Under

OVER 129.5 (-110) is how I’d bet the total with North Carolina allowing 71.3 points per game (222nd in the nation). Both teams are also averaging a combined 144.7 points per game this season.

The Tar Heels and the Cavaliers are a combined 6-2 to the Over in neutral-site games this season.
