Saints rookie C.J. Gardner-Johnson gets his first career interception

New Orleans Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a rookie from the Florida Gators program, logged his first NFL interception off of Matt Ryan

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was handing out turnovers like they were going out of style on Thanksgiving night, with New Orleans Saints rookie defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson the latest recipient. The fourth-round draft pick out of Florida snagged an interception off of Ryan during the second half, streaking across the field to set the Saints offense up in solid starting field position.

It was the first career interception for Gardner-Johnson, who has steadily seen his snap counts rise after injuries struck the top of the Saints depth chart earlier this year. The rookie has shown a knack for defending passes out of the slot while laying out punishing hits in run defense. He’s dropped two would-be interceptions in previous games, so it’s great to see him expand this part of his skills set. See it for yourself:

Former UGA football WR Mecole Hardman tweets thoughts on CFP rankings

Former Georgia football wide receiver Mecole Hardman gave his thoughts on the newest CFP rankings and added an interesting twist.

Former Georgia wide receiver Mecole Hardman, now having a sensational rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs, gave his thoughts on the most recent College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday.

After beating Penn State, the Buckeyes jumped LSU and claimed the No. 1 spot in the rankings. College football fans are split on the committee’s decision, and Hardman is one who disagrees with the order.

Yeah, the OSU win was nice, but LSU has been doing that all season.

Here are Hardman’s thoughts on the rankings.

Georgia football falls in CBS Sports’ CFB rankings

Georgia football dropped in CBS Sports’ CFB rankings.

It’s a good thing the only poll that matters is the College Football Playoff rankings. Well, at least for now. We’ll find out if I will still be saying that on Tuesday night when those are released.

But after a week in which Georgia did not look particularly great in a 19-13 win over Texas A&M in Athens, CBS Sports dropped the Bulldogs one spot in its rankings, swapping them with Alabama. The Dawgs remained No. 4 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25.

CBS Sports’ new-top is as follows:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Alabama

5. Georgia

6. Utah

7. Oklahoma

8. Florida

9. Minnesota

10. Baylor

Alabama looked good, sure. But it was against Western Carolina. The Tide may very well still be able to win a national championship over any of the playoff committee’s top-four teams, but if you don’t win your conference, let alone your division, you should not be given the opportunity to prove that.

Here is my prediction for what the College Football Playoff rankings will look like on Tuesday night.

Predicting the College Football Playoff rankings after Week 13.

Week 13 saw Georgia football beat a talented Texas A&M team to advance to 10-1 on the season.

Georgia looked like it has all season – unable to finish a drive on offense but smothering on defense.

That’s been Georgia’s recipe this season, but how much longer will it work? We will find out in two weeks when the Dawgs take on LSU in Atlanta.

Right now, Georgia is sitting at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings behind LSU (1), Ohio State (2) and Clemson (3).

Right behind the Bulldogs is Alabama, hoping that it can not only win next week vs Auburn but also that LSU will take care of business in the SEC Championship, thus eliminating Georgia from playoff contention.

Behind Alabama currently is Oregon, but that won’t last long after the Ducks lost to Arizona State. The best part about Oregon losing is that now we don’t have to hear about how Rob Mullens, the Oregon AD and the chair of the CFP selection committee, is “recused from the room” when the committee discusses the Ducks. Is it just me, or has that been mentioned way too many times this season?

Ohio State definitely had the most impressive win of the weekend among the teams near the top of the rankings (Arizona State probably had the best win, though, in beating Oregon). I would not expect the committee to swap LSU and OSU, however. LSU’s beaten plenty of top-ten teams itself.

Then there’s Utah, which is 10-1 and needs some help to make it into the final four. The Utes have not really beaten anyone, but if Georgia and Alabama both fall and Utah wins its conference, then it has a much better argument.

Oklahoma, however, assuming it wins out, will be right there with Utah vying for that last Playoff spot if both Alabama and Georgia lose before the final rankings reveal after the conference championship games wrap up.

Amway Coaches Poll released after Week 13: Where’s Georgia football?

Where is Georgia football in the newest Amway Coaches Poll?

Week 13 has come to an end and we are moving closer to conference championship weekend and the College Football Playoff.

Georgia, which was No. 4 last week, took care of business (for the most part) in a win over Texas A&M and remained at No. 4.

The biggest win of the weekend came from Ohio State, which took down Penn State in Columbus.

LSU looked good against a terrible Arkansas team, but did allow the Razorbacks, who have the 106th ranked offense, to score 20 points.

The biggest loss of the weekend was from Oregon, which now has two losses. The Ducks fell from No. 6 to No. 13.

Here is the new top-ten in the Amway Coach Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Georgia now has wins over four teams that were ranked at the time of the game.

The Dawgs beat Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame and A&M (the Aggies were ranked No. 24 last week).

The Georgia Bulldogs clinched the SEC East after a win over rival Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. Unfortunately for Florida, this meant the end of season-long division title aspirations.

Before the Dawgs took care of business on the Plains of Auburn, Coach Dan Mullen had a few words for the Tigers in his postgame interview at Missouri.

We all know what happened next….

Georgia will likely play LSU at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a few weeks, unless the Tigers  lose to Arkansas and Texas A&M in their next two games.

(Which will not happen)

So… it’s the Dawgs and the Tigers for the SEC Championship. Better luck next year, Gators.

Where’s Georgia football in the Amway Coaches Poll?

Following Saturday’s action, the Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports, has been revealed for Week 13.

Georgia may have had college football’s most impressive win of the weekend, beating No. 12 Auburn on the road. If you’ve watched Auburn this season, you’d know they were the best No. 12 in a long time.

Last week, Georgia was at No. 5 in the Coaches Poll, one spot behind Alabama.

However, after Georgia’s win and Alabama’s loss of Tua Tagovailoa, the coaches moved Georgia up to No. 4, where it also sits in the College Football Playoff rankings.

The highest ranked team to lose was No. 7 Minnesota, which fell to Iowa and dropped to 11.

No. 10 Baylor was handed its first loss of the season via an epic comeback from Jalen Hurts and Oklahoma. The Bears fell to No. 13.

No. 11 Penn State survived a scare from Indiana but held on to win by a touchdown.

Auburn fell to No. 16 and Notre Dame, an early season win for Georgia, destroyed Navy and moved to No. 15.

When Florida Gators HC Dan Mullen was asked about Georgia football’s game vs Auburn, he made it clear who he was cheering for.

Following Florida’s win over Missouri on Saturday, the Gators will have their eyes glued to CBS to watch Georgia take on Auburn.

If Georgia wins, it secures a spot in the SEC Championship. A loss and Georgia will have to beat Texas A&M to make it in.

Florida’s game today was its final SEC matchup of the season. So if Georgia happens to lose to the Tigers and Aggies, the Gators are headed to Atlanta.

When Mullen was asked by CBS for his thoughts on the Georgia vs Auburn game, he made it clear who he was cheering for.

“War Eagle,” Mullen said.
