10 dynamic pass rushers for the Eagles to watch at the NFL combine

With the onfield workouts set to begin, we’re looking at 10 dynamic edge rushers to watch at the 2023 NFL scouting combine

The Eagles are at the NFL scouting combine and with two first-round picks for the second year in a row, they’ll look to retool with 18 pending free agents set to hit the open market.

Philadelphia loves to build from the inside out and could look to stockpile more pass rushers with Brandon Graham and Robert Quinn potentially leaving for greener pastures.

The Eagles have 9 key contributors on defense set for free agency, and GM Howie Roseman has acknowledged that he won’t be able to retain his core of free agents with Jalen Hurts set to land a huge contract extension.

With the onfield portion of the combine set to heat up, we’re looking at 10 dynamic pass rushers for the Eagles to watch.

Florida A&M WR Xavier Smith shines at HBCU Combine

Florida A&M wide receiver Xavier Smith put on a show for NFL scouts Monday at the HBCU Combine

This year’s HBCU Combine was another huge success, and the event once again illuminated some talented prospects in the 2023 NFL draft class who are worthy of more attention.

One such name is Florida A&M wide receiver Xavier Smith, who put on a show for NFL scouts with his performance Monday.

Watch the video above to see some of Smith’s highlights from the day, as well as his interview with NFL Network’s Steve Wyche.

10 NFL draft prospects for the Eagles to watch at the HBCU Legacy Bowl

With the Scouting Combine fast approaching, we’re looking at 10 NFL draft prospects for the Eagles to watch at the HBCU Legacy Bowl

HBCUs have played a vital role in the development and popularity of the NFL, and as we head toward the NFL draft, some of college football’s top athletes will be on display this week.

On Monday, 47 NFL Draft hopefuls from HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) will participate in a Combine at the New Orleans Saints practice facility.

Then, practices will begin on Tuesday before the HBCU Legacy Bowl (Feb. 25, 4 p.m. ET, NFL Network).

Fayetteville State head coach Richard Hayes Jr. and North Carolina Central head coach Trei Oliver will coach Team Gaither (named after legendary Florida A&M coach Jake Gaither) at the Legacy Bowl. In contrast, Benedict College head coach Chennis Berry and Southern head coach Eric Dooley will lead Team Robinson (named after legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson).

Last year, four HBCU prospects were drafted, including Fayetteville State’s Joshua Williams, who won a Super Bowl ring with Kansas City, and Jackson State’s James Houston, who had eight sacks as a Lions rookie.

With the Eagles having a limited amount of draft picks, we’re previewing 10 players to watch at the HBCU Legacy Bowl.

Three things we learned from UNC vs Florida A&M

After a slow start, UNC kept the pressure to a dominating finish. We take a look at three things we learned from the season opener.

The UNC football program took care of business Saturday night, beating Florida A&M 56-24.

The Tar Heels had a sluggish start on the defensive end, and luckily their offense did not miss a beat dominating in the passing and running game for most of the night. [autotag]Drake Maye[/autotag] had an impressive debut, and UNC fans got a good look at their freshman running back duo of Omarion Hampton and George Pettaway.

UNC did make solid adjustments at halftime, holding FAMU to just 10 points in the second half while scoring 28 of their own. They also improved their rushing attack at the half, rushing in for two scores versus the zero in the first two quarters.

This game was the ideal start of the season for UNC as their journey only gets tougher with Appalachian State and Notre Dame games scheduled within the next three weeks.

Now with UNC officially in the win column, we look at three things we learned from the UNC vs. FAMU game.

North Carolina vs Florida A&M Game Preview

Why Florida A&M Will Win

The Rattlers should have enough of an offense to make some noise with the downfield passing game about to take its shots.

QB Rasean McKay wasn’t always accurate, but he didn’t turn the ball over and pushed the ball down the field. Top target Xavier Smith is back along with most of the receiving corps, and now they get to crank it all up against a Tar Heel defense that was awful last season.

It gave up a ton of big plays partly because of a defensive front that struggled to get into the backfield, but …

Week 0 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why North Carolina Will Win

The team might have fixed the glitch in the offseason with help from the transfer portal at defensive end, to go along with the veterans already in place.

The defense only has to hold serve at this – if the Florida A&M offense goes off. The Rattler defense – as strong as it was last year – isn’t going to slow down the Tar Heel attack that should be balanced as it matches the other side shot for downfield shot.

The offensive front should take over as the game goes on as the Heels own the ground attack … eventually.

What’s Going To Happen

Florida A&M will be good again, and it’s going to be plucky, but North Carolina is looking to start strong after a rough end to 2021.

Here comes the overall offensive explosion on the ground and through the air, and this should be the breakthrough game for a defensive front with a whole lot to prove.

Tar Heels Wire staff predictions for Week 0

We have our staff predictions for the UNC football program’s Week 0 game against Florida A&M.

Week 0 officially kicks off the 2022 college football season with a slate of games on Saturday. Among those games is Mack Brown’s North Carolina Tar Heels who open up at home against Florida A&M.

UNC is playing in Week 0 for the first time in program history and will welcome the Rattlers into Kenan Memorial Stadium. Saturday’s game is one in which UNC is favored by 34.5 points and are facing a Rattlers’ team that will be shorthanded.

Heck, there was talk that Florida A&M may not even make the trip to Chapel Hill due to how many players were ineligble.

But here we are as Week 0 begins, we wanted to give our first predictions of the season. You can find those along with our records which will be tracked all season long.

Make sure to check back with Tar Heels Wire for complete coverage of Saturday’s game between UNC and Florida A&M.

UNC football vs. Florida A&M: How to watch, stream Saturday’s game

Looking for ways to watch, listen, and stream? Then we got you covered as we give you the information you need ahead of Saturday’s game.

The UNC football program will open up its season by hosting the HBCU Celebration Game against Florida A&M.

This season opener is new territory for the Tar Heels, playing in Week 0 with not much experience playing in August.  This marks the 10th time Carolina played in the month, holding a 5-4 record.  UNC holds a 84-43-4 record in their season openers, with [autotag]Mack Brown[/autotag] sustaining a 10-3 record in his Carolina tenure.

The game is set to kick off Saturday at 8:15 p.m. ET as UNC looks to reverse the outcome of last season’s opener.

This is a key game for Carolina as they seek to find the ideal rotational packages on defense and see which offensive weapons step up. UNC will start the Drake Maye era, and fans get to see how the defense will play under Gene Chizik.

From Maryland to Florida A&M, safety Markquese Bell checks the boxes for a Cowboys Day 3 draft pick

A Big 10 recruit who ended up transferring, Bell could offer intriguing upside to the team which selects him. Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) takes a look at the official 30 visitor.

Looking through the Cowboys’ official 30 visits, an intriguing name appears in Florida A&M safety Markquese Bell. Bell was a standout for the Rattlers and topped off his senior year with an invite to the 2022 Shrine Bowl. A four-star recruit coming out of high school, Bell had offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland and others. He eventually would choose Maryland and enrolled there in 2017.

Bell stepped on campus at Maryland with high expectations but never took a snap as he dismissed from the program due to an undisclosed violation of code of conduct. He would end up enrolling at Coffeyville Community College where he was a three-star recruit who attracted attention from Nebraska and South Carolina. He ultimately chose to attend Florida A&M, an elite HBCU institution thanks to the help of former teammate Elijah Daniels.

With his dismissal from Maryland being undisclosed, it makes sense why the Cowboys want him in on a 30 visit. He’s an intriguing prospect on the field, but any club interested would be looking to find out more about the off-field portion of his story.

Florida A&M’s Chad Hunter with remarkable, catch-of-the-year TD

How did Florida A&M’s Chad Hunter somehow come down with the touchdown pass?

Chad Hunter of Florida A&M made a ridiculous catch that sparked a fourth-quarter comeback in the Rattlers’ 35-31 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday.

You will probably have to watch this over — and over and over — before you realize Hunter comes down with the 25-yard pass from Rasean McCoy to make it 28-23 after the PAT.

The ball seemingly hits everywhere and everything before Hunter winds up with it for 6 points.

The 4-2 Rattlers outscored the Bulldogs 19-3 in the fourth quarter to come away with the SWAC victory.

Georgia football adds another nonconference opponent to 2028 schedule

UGA football has scheduled another nonconference opponent for the 2028 season. Details and outlook here.

Georgia football has been busy lately with future nonconference scheduling. Last month the Bulldogs added Louisville for a home-and-home series for 2026 and 2027 and now, UGA has added a game against Florida A&M that will go down on Sept. 9, 2028 in Athens.

The HBCU and will become a full member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference this fall and although the Rattlers are a FCS school, Georgia will have to be ready for anything with how the schedule sets up in 2028.

UGA will open the season at Texas and then a week after the newly added game versus Florida A&M, who went 9-2 in 2019, will face Florida State in Athens.

There are some big games coming to Athens in the next decade. Check out how the entire future nonconference schedule sets up here, featuring nine Power 5 opponents…
