Ohio State basketball barely hanging on in latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

Can the Buckeyes turn it around still?

The latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports is out and you have to scroll pretty far down to find Ohio State. So far down, in fact, that the Buckeyes are the very last team to be ranked in the poll, all the way down to No. 25.

It’s been a continual and steady decline down the rankings for the Buckeyes after limping on one leg and two hands tied behind their back over the last couple of weeks. OSU has gone from contending for a regular-season Big Ten title to becoming the No. 6 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Other teams fared much better, especially in the top ten that consists of Gonzaga (1), Arizona (2), Baylor (3), Auburn (4), Kentucky (5), Kansas (6), Duke (7), Villanova (8), Purdue (9), and Providence (10).

Ohio State will next be in action on Friday when it takes on the winner of Minnesota and Penn State in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Following suit of Auburn, the Kentucky Wildcats moved up a spot to No. 5 after their win over the Florida Gators on Saturday. The Tennessee Vols moved up to No. 11, jumping up two spots. They survived a last-second comeback effort by the Arkansas Razorbacks, who are now No. 16.

The Alabama Crimson Tide fell out of the rankings after falling to the LSU Tigers in overtime on Saturday. The Tigers remain unranked but received votes this week. The big drop came from the Duke Blue Devils after they lost their season finale to North Carolina.

While it isn’t where they would like to be, the final Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports just dropped and Michigan State basketball is still on the fringes, receiving 13 votes in the poll despite some recent disappointing losses.

The Spartans were No. 25 in the last poll but losses to Ohio State and Michigan dropped them out of the poll, but a definitive win over Maryland in the season finale did enough to keep them in the conversation as we head into tournament play.

Here’s where the SEC stands in the latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

LSU isn’t receiving votes once again, and the rest of the SEC saw some major shakeups after a wild Saturday in college basketball.

LSU ended the weekend on a high note with a 20-point win over a bad Missouri team in Baton Rouge on Saturday, but it missed the chance to earn a huge win that could have moved it closer to the top 25 in the coaches poll when it surrendered a halftime lead on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats.

UK followed that win with a loss to Arkansas, dropping it three spots to No. 3 in the coaches. Auburn also lost to Tennessee on Saturday, and the Tigers saw a one-spot drop to No. 4, becoming the highest-ranked SEC team once again.

As far as the rest of the conference goes, the Vols and Razorbacks are moving up after their big wins to No. 13 and No. 15, respectively. Alabama, meanwhile, is up one spot to No. 24. The Tigers are still not receiving votes in the coaches poll, though they are in the AP Top 25.
