It did not take long for former Alabama forward Herb Jones to meet former Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. at the rim on Thursday night. Jones and Smith Jr. guarded one another the majority of the night.

With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, Jones glided in for what appeared to be an easy slam dunk. At the last moment, Smith Jr. jumped up to try and swat the ball out of Jones’ hands. However, he was unsuccessful and subsequently fouled Jones in the act. Jones would also convert on the dunk attempt.

Alabama was without arguably its best three-point shooter in shooting guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. The three ball was not hitting early on, but that would change toward the end of the game.

One week ago, Dan Skipper was a central figure of the Brad Allen officiating gaffe in Dallas. Allen thought Skipper reported as an eligible receiver even though big No. 70 clearly did not.

On Sunday, Skipper did more than just declare as an eligible receiver. He ran a rout and caught a pass in this quarter of Detroit’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Skipper gained four yards on the pass.

After losing tight end Sam LaPorta to injury earlier in the game, the Ford Field crowd needed a lift. Skipper’s catch resulted in the loudest cheer for a non-scoring play all afternoon.

Skipper also threw a nice block on David Montgomery’s touchdown run to cap the drive. The fans loved it.

The Alabama men’s basketball program fell in Saturday’s contest north of the border. The Crimson Tide fell 92-86 to Purdue in Toronto, Canada.

Nate Oats’ squad controlled the first half. Alabama seemed to be clicking on all cylinders on the offensive end. However, the defensive end was a different situation. Purdue big man Zach Edey made things difficult down low throughout the entire game.

In the second half, he and his teammates began to knock down shots. The Boilermakers took the lead in the second half and never looked back. Alabama stormed back at the end but did not have enough gas in the tank to overcome the deficit.
