2020-21 NBA Season Awards: Predicting All-Rookie teams, snubs

We made our picks for the NBA All-Rookie Teams while also projecting which players will be snubbed this season.

With the NBA regular season behind us, the conversation in the basketball world has shifted toward the playoffs following an exciting weekend of action.

The discussion surrounding several end-of-season awards races also has picked up.

Several categories, including Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, appear to be anything but locked up. Also included in that debate: the All-Rookie teams.

The rookie class put forth a strong showing this year and likely exceeded expectations. The performances have given the awards voters something to think about and the final tallies should be rather intriguing.

To make sense of it all, Rookie Wire predicted how the All-Rookie first and second teams will play out. We also included players likely to be snubbed from the voting results.

2021 NBA Rising Stars: Edwards, Wiseman among rookies named to rosters

Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and Warriors center James Wiseman were among the first-year players named to the Rising Stars rosters.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and Golden State Warriors center James Wiseman on Wednesday were among the first-year players named to the 2021 NBA Rising Stars rosters, the league announced.

The Rising Stars game, which is the annual showcase of the top young talent from the United States and around the world, will not be played this year due to the limitation of having All-Star events all on March 7. To recognize players, the NBA still named those deserving of the honor to the team.

The rosters were voted on by NBA assistant coaches with each selecting four frontcourt players, four guards and two additional players at any position. The teams are comprised of 10 first- and second-year players from the U.S. and 10 first- and second-year players from outside of the U.S.

The U.S. Team features a roster with players from 10 different teams, headlined by reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Ja Morant and All-Star Zion Williamson. Meanwhile, six countries are represented on the World Team, including five players from Canada.

The All-Star 2021 festivities begin on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST with the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest tipping off the action. The Slam Dunk Contest will take place during halftime of the All-Star Game.

Lakers vs. Nuggets: Lineups, injury reports and broadcast info for Thursday

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets face-off in a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals.

The Los Angeles Lakers are finally back home after a nearly two-week road trip that took them all over the Eastern Conference. Now that they are back in Los Angeles, the Lakers get the treat of facing off against one of the hottest teams in the NBA and their rivals from last year’s Western Conference Finals, the Denver Nuggets.

After struggling to win games early in the season, the Nuggets have finally started to string some wins together over the past month and again find themselves in the thick of things in the Western Conference, three games back of the Lakers in 4th place in the West.

The biggest reason why the Nuggets are back in the mix in the West has been the MVP-level play of Nikola Jokic, who along with Joel Embiid is one of the contenders for the award along with LeBron James. After snapping the Utah Jazz big win streak on Sunday with 47 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, Jokic has an opportunity to put together another statement game tonight against the Lakers on national television.

Here’s when you should tune in to see the game:

Injury report:

PJ Dozier, Gary Harris and Greg Whittington are out for the Nuggets. Jared Dudley and Kostas Antetokounmpo are out for the Lakers.

Denver Nuggets (12-8)

  • Paul Millsap
  • Will Barton
  • Nikola Jokic
  • Monte Morris
  • Jamal Murray

Los Angeles Lakers (16-6)

  • LeBron James

NBA predictions: Our picks for All-League teams

HoopsHype predicts all of the All-NBA squads for the 2020-21 season, including the All-Defense and All-Rookie honorees as well.

As we get closer and closer to the upcoming 2020-21 season, HoopsHype decided to make predictions for the All-NBA squads – including rookies and defensive players.

As the league does it, for each group, HoopsHype writers were allowed to pick one big man, two forwards and two guards. These were the results:

Could Celtics find more help overseas like Theis, Wanamaker, Larkin?

Could the Boston Celtics keep the flow of overseas talent to their roster going this offseason? We analyze three proposed such prospects in this article.

The Boston Celtics have struck gold with overseas prospects a number of times in recent years, and — pandemic permitting — might again, with some luck.

Players like Shane Larkin, Daniel Theis and Brad Wanamaker have all found significant roles with the Celtics, and while it’s not looking good for center Vincent Poirier to stick with Boston next season, the book is still open on how his story ends.

With a roster crunch currently besetting the roster, it might not make a lot of sense to be looking all the way across the proverbial pond for potential point guards, big men and bench scorers, but the Celtics could easily consolidate one or several roster spots beyond what the deal and draft will fill.

And in that case, an overstocked roster could quickly shift to one in need of bodies — and bodies capable of helping off the bench on a contender.

The Playgrounder’s Matt Esposito put together a trio of prospects currently ensconced overseas the Celtics might have interest in — let’s take a look at what they came up with.
