MLB fans loved Elly De La Cruz’s wholesome reaction to meeting Derek Jeter at All-Star workout day

It’s so easy to root for Elly.

There aren’t many MLB stars who are easier to roof for than Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz. He just exudes a love for the game that is clear whenever he speaks.

And on Monday, he got a chance to meet his favorite player … Derek Jeter.

De La Cruz joined the Fox pregame show during MLB All-Star workouts in Arlington. He was asked about the players who inspired him growing up, and that was when he said that he was always a fan of Jeter. He said so with Jeter sitting a few feet away from him.

It’s safe to say that the reaction could not have been more wholesome.

De La Cruz said, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” And then reached out to shake Jeter’s hand.

There was something so cool about that moment, and it gave MLB fans just another reason to root for Elly.

Elly De La Cruz waited so long for a Rockies’ catcher to toss the ball back for an epic delayed steal

Elly De La Cruz is SO FAST.

You want to know how fast Elly De La Cruz is? Well, you already know given how he’s scored from second on an errant pick-off attempt or the myriad of steals we’ve seen or the Little League home run that wowed us.

But, sure, here you go: this is how fast the Cincinnati Reds phenom is.

While facing the Colorado Rockies on Monday, he waited and waited for the catcher to toss the ball back to the pitcher BEFORE taking off for second. That’s when hurler Ryan Feltner threw to second and it wasn’t even close.

Check this out. WOW!

Elly De La Cruz hit a homer so far and high that the broadcast camera lost the ability to track it

Elly De La Cruz!

Cincinnati Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz is one of the most electric players in the MLB, and this outrageous homer further proved it.

Against Pittsburgh Pirates ace Daulton Jefferies, De La Cruz smacked the ball so far out of the ballpark at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park that the broadcast camera couldn’t even track the ball as it left the diamond.

The ball went so far that it hit the top of the steamboat at Great American Ball Park, something the broadcast team giddily pointed out as De La Cruz rounded the bases for his two-run homer.

De La Cruz is as good at the plate as he is in the outfield, and this homer did so well that the game camera was as flummoxed as the pitcher was.

Paul Skenes somehow recorded his first career pickoff against Elly De La Cruz

Paul Skenes is out of this world.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes threw his first career pickoff came against one of the best base runners in the MLB.

Skenes had the sharp eye and precise throw to get an out on Cincinnati Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz, who has established himself as one of the quickest runners in the entire league.

It is very hard to throw out a player like De La Cruz, much less get him while he’s still hovering around the base. However, Skenes has taken the MLB by storm and has proven himself capable of doing some pretty special things.

Apparently, recording his first pickoff against De La Cruz is part of that impressive rookie equation.

Elly De La Cruz had MLB fans in awe when he electrifyingly scored from second on an errant pick-off attempt

He really might be the fastest man alive.

At this point, Elly De La Cruz’s speed shouldn’t be a surprise. But the more we see that speed in action, the more it continues to amaze.

He seriously might be the fastest person on the planet.

During Sunday’s game between the Reds and Brewers, De La Cruz stole second with two outs in the third. Yet instead of focusing on the batter in a 1-2 count, Brewers pitcher Colin Rea inexplicably had his attention on De La Cruz at second. He made a pick-off attempt with De La Cruz just a couple steps off the bag, and that throw went into center field.

And just like that, it was off to the races for De La Cruz.

De La Cruz seemingly hit top speed after a couple steps and got the green light to make the turn home from third base. No other player in baseball is scoring from second on that error with two outs. De La Cruz’s speed is just different like that.

No wonder MLB fans were in awe of the electrifying play. His speed produced a run out of thin air.

Snoop Dogg reacting to a great Elly De La Cruz play from the broadcast booth of Reds-Twins was absolutely delightful

So much drama in the EDLC.

We don’t really need to understand why Snoop Dogg was in the broadcast booth for Saturday’s Cincinnati Reds and Minnesota Twins game. We’re just glad that it happened.

His appearance on the game broadcast was absolutely wonderful, particularly the way he reacted to Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz throwing out a Twins runner before he got to first base.

Snoop Dogg did not think that De La Cruz could make the play on Minnesota’s Brice Turang after the latter got a nice hit down the middle of the field.

However, De La Cruz has made a career so far out of making incredible highlights seem easy. Of course he threw Turang out with ease.

Snoop Dogg couldn’t believe it, which made his commentary all the more fantastic.

The world needs Snoop Dogg in the booth for more sports broadcasts of all types, as this surprise MLB guest appearance was just too good to miss.

We wouldn’t blame him for buying a De La Cruz jersey after this, either.

Fans had jokes after Elly De La Cruz fouled off a Hunter Greene pitch right into Hunter Greene’s Maybach

Parking a $200K car near a baseball field is a BOLD choice.

Whenever someone decides to park at a baseball field, they’re making a calculated risk. Do they want to settle for the most convenient spot and risk being in range of a baseball or do they want to park far away in relative safety?

We know what Hunter Greene chose on Tuesday, and let me tell ya — he absolutely regretted that decision.

As the Reds pitcher was throwing some live BP to Elly De La Cruz, Greene’s pitch was fouled back and out of play at one of the back fields in Goodyear, Ariz. It seemed harmless enough, but that foul ball could not have landed at a more unfortunate spot for Greene.

It smashed the window of his Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV. Depending on how that car is spec’d, it can go for well over $200,000.

Greene — who is on a six-year, $53 million deal — apparently told Elly that he was paying for it. The Reds infielder pointed out that Greene makes more than him (plus, insurance will probably cover that one). And let’s be honest, if you’re parking a Maybach within striking distance of a baseball field, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

Fans, though, had plenty of jokes for the smashed window. Of all the cars for Elly to hit, it had to be Greene’s. Unreal.

Elly De La Cruz ruined an inside-the-park home run with a near 100 mph throw and MLB fans were amazed

What a snipe by Elly De La Cruz!

It’s well known by now that Elly De La Cruz has an absolute cannon of an arm. It wasn’t that long ago that De La Cruz broke the record for the hardest-thrown infield assist — since 2015 in the Statcast era — on a ridiculous 99.8 mph heater.

And now, De La Cruz is making these plays look routine, as the Cincinnati Reds rookie made yet another outstanding play on Sunday. With the Reds facing the Arizona Diamondbacks, down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, likely National League Rookie of the Year leader Corbin Carroll went deep with a ball that hit off the top of the wall in center field. The Reds were able to get the ball to De La Cruz as the relay man, but Carroll was booking it for an inside-the-park home run attempt.

And somehow, De La Cruz was able to rocket in a 99.7 mph ball that seemingly curved at will to catcher Tyler Stephenson for the tag out to rob Carroll of the inside-the-park home run.

What an absolutely magical throw. And it’s no wonder both De La Cruz and Carroll are frontrunners for the NL Rookie of the Year. Between Carroll’s blistering speed and De La Cruz’s stunning arm strength, the sport of baseball has a bright future ahead of it.

MLB fans were wowed at De La Cruz’s highway robbery of an inside-the-park home run with his scorching throw home.

Shohei Ohtani may have known about his torn UCL while sharing a laugh with Elly De La Cruz

He wasn’t going to let the devastating injury ruin his night.

News that Shohei Ohtani had a torn UCL in his elbow rocked the baseball world early Thursday morning. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, it is unclear if Ohtani will need surgery, but he won’t pitch the rest of the 2023 season. It’s a development that could cost Ohtani millions as he prepares to hit free agency this offseason.

To many, because of his ability to mash dingers and pitch like an ace, the Los Angeles Angels superstar is the greatest player in MLB history. On top of that, he seems like a great person, making his injury all the more heartbreaking. And for fans of the game, Ohtani is just a flat-out treat to watch night in and night out.

Even for other fellow stars like Elly De La Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds.

After Ohtani recorded a hit with an off-balance swing Thursday, De La Cruz jokingly prodded him as if to check whether he was real. With Ohtani apparently already knowing about his injury, per Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register, the two superstars shared a laugh in a delightful moment courtesy of Bally Sports West that we can all appreciate:

Kudos to Ohtani for putting on a brave face and enjoying some levity with one of the game’s bright young faces. On what had to be one of the toughest nights of his career, this served as an excellent reminder about trying to have some fun regardless of a bad break.
