Notre Dame Recruits Post Epic Steelers Legacy Photo

Steelers legacies pose with fathers on latest official Notre Dame visits.

Notre Dame’s recent run of landing recruiting commitments from the sons of former NFL players has been impressive.  The sons of several former NFL stars have chosen to wear blue and gold in recent years from the likes of Kennedy Urlacher (Brian), Bryant Young, Jr., James Flanagan (Jim), and several others.

There are three players currently committed in the 2025 recruiting class that don’t only each have fathers that played in the NFL, but fathers that specifically starred for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Those three posed together over the weekend, along with their fathers for a truly epic photo of the old guard and new.

[autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag] posted the photo as he sits on the left side, in front of his dad Plaxico.  [autotag]Ivan Taylor[/autotag], Notre Dame‘s top-ranked recruit currently in the 2025 class sits in front of his dad Ike Taylor.  And on the right side is of course [autotag]Jerome Bettis, Jr[/autotag]. seated in front of his Pro Football Hall of Fame father, Jerome, Sr.

Happy Father’s Day, in blue and gold or black and yellow, indeed.

Ohio 2025 wide receiver decommits from Notre Dame football

Good and bad news on the trail for the Irish on Saturday

It wasn’t all good news for Notre Dame football on the recruiting trail Saturday.

Yes, getting a commitment from 2026 quarterback Noah Grubbs is huge, but he won’t be able to sign for over a year from now. Ohio wide receiver [autotag]Shaun Terry[/autotag] was set to sign this winter, but had a change of heart and decommitted from the program.

The Irish recently offered in-state wide receiver JonAnthony Hall while they await the final decision from Derek Meadows as well. There are still two commits in the 2025 class, with [autotag]Jerome Bettis Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag].

With so much current movement recruiting receivers, its hard to say how this all shakes out for Notre Dame.

What we do know is that the Notre Dame coaching staff has a great handle on what is going on with its recruits and have shown that they can easily find replacements if needed.

See it: Notre Dame Recruiting Commitments Make You Feel Old

From Super Bowl fathers to Notre Dame?

It was two decades ago now that Jerome Bettis and Plaxico Burress were key cogs on the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.  Both would go on to win Super Bowls when they were no longer teammates and both had kids of their own now.

Or I should say, both have kids that are being recruited to play football at Notre Dame now.

Jerome Bettis, Jr., and Elijah Burress are both recruits in the 2025 cycle and are yet to announce commitments to any program.  Both were on Notre Dame’s campus last weekend and seemed to have enjoyed their time.  They even posed for a staged photo together, one Burress posted to social media with a nod to both of their fathers.

No word yet on when either plans to announce their college plans but Notre Dame is clearly a player for both.  The Irish currently have the top-ranked 2025 recruiting class by multiple outlets.

Meet Notre Dame’s Top Ranked 2025 Recruiting Class

What must the Irish still add to make this class great?

It’s early in the 2025 recruiting cycle still but recruiting for Notre Dame tends to play out a lot like a quote from New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra:

“It’s getting late early out there.”

When it comes to football recruiting Notre Dame is a team that tends to start hot and then usually have to hold on to secure a high ranking.  They’re rarely if ever a program that soars up the rankings late in the process.

That’s why it’s so important that Notre Dame gets off to hot starts in recruiting and that is something they’ve certainly done to date with the 2025 recruiting class.

Notre Dame now has 16 commitments in the class which gives them the top ranking according to both 247Sports and Rivals.

Below are the currently committed 16 members of Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class and a little about each player.

Please note: Prospects are listed according to their public commitment dates

Son of retired Giants WR Plaxico Burress commits to Notre Dame

Elijah Burress, the son of former New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl champion, Plaxico Burress, has committed to Notre Dame.

Elijah Burress, the son of former New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl champion, Plaxico Burress, committed to Notre Dame on Saturday.

The DePaul Catholic High School product is the 36th-ranked wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle by 247Sports and is the 15th member of Notre Dame’s class.

Burress received his offer from Notre Dame on January 11 and the school made a strong push for his final commitment over the past several weeks. He ultimately chose the Fighting Irish over Duke, James Madison, Marshall, Cincinnati, Liberty, and a multitude of other programs.

6-foot-1, 170-pound Burress caught 25 passes for 434 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season.

Elijah’s father, Plaxico, was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2000 NFL draft. He spent the first five seasons of his career with Pittsburgh before signing with the Giants as a free agent in 2005.

Burress completely changed the Giants’ offensive and formed a tight bond with quarterback Eli Manning, eventually helping to lead them to the Super Bowl.

Although Burress’ impact in Super Bowl XLII was minimal due to an injury, he did catch the game-winning touchdown. That came after a historically dominant performance in the AFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.

Burress never officially retired from the NFL.

Notre Dame Football: Wide Receiver Set To Announce Commitment on Saturday

Another son of an NFL star headed to Notre Dame?

A key Notre Dame target in the 2025 recruiting class is set to announce his college decision.

Elijah Burress, a wide receiver from Wayne, New Jersey will announce Saturday where he intends to play his college football.

The 6-1, 170-pounder seems headed to Notre Dame, but stranger things have certainly happened.  He currently lists having seven offers with Duke, Cincinnati, Liberty, East Carolina, UMass, and Temple also being in on him.

Burress is the son of former Michigan State and NFL star Plaxico Burress who caught what wound up being the game winning touchdown reception in the Giants upset win of the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Will Elijah be joining Notre Dame’s 2025 class on Saturday?

We are certainly expecting good news on this one.

Notre Dame offers 2025 New Jersey wide receiver, son of former NFL star

The Irish aren’t strangers to offering the son’s of former NFL stars and did it once again

At this point in the 2025 cycle, Notre Dame football can be extremely picky with its offers to high school recruits.

With 13 current commits, in a class view as one of the best early collections of talent, the Irish don’t need to reach for anyone at the moment. They found a potential gem in New Jersey, wide receiver [autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 170-pound pass catcher was offered a scholarship from Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon.

Burress currently isn’t ranked by major services, as he is a bit of an unknown at the moment, but the Irish saw enough from his junior film to pull the trigger on an offer.

Part of the reason why he received his offer is his bloodlines, as Plaxico, his father played at Michigan State and was the No. 8 pick of the 2000 NFL draft and had a very good career. Elijah becomes the latest offer to a son of a former NFL star.
