Meet Notre Dame’s Top Ranked 2025 Recruiting Class

What must the Irish still add to make this class great?

It’s early in the 2025 recruiting cycle still but recruiting for Notre Dame tends to play out a lot like a quote from New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra:

“It’s getting late early out there.”

When it comes to football recruiting Notre Dame is a team that tends to start hot and then usually have to hold on to secure a high ranking.  They’re rarely if ever a program that soars up the rankings late in the process.

That’s why it’s so important that Notre Dame gets off to hot starts in recruiting and that is something they’ve certainly done to date with the 2025 recruiting class.

Notre Dame now has 16 commitments in the class which gives them the top ranking according to both 247Sports and Rivals.

Below are the currently committed 16 members of Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class and a little about each player.

Please note: Prospects are listed according to their public commitment dates

The Irish will soon know if they will land the talented Illinois defender

[autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] has put together some very impressive recruiting classes  so far during head coach Marcus Freeman’s tenure.

It’s something that the Irish have sorely missed out in during his previous predecessors regimes, a sign of changing times in South Bend.

Illinois 2025 defensive lineman / linebacker [autotag]Chris Burgess[/autotag] has recently visited South Bend in September and let everyone know that he will be committing on January 6th, 2024.

The 6-foot, 4-inch and 240-pound hybrid defender is ranked as the No. 18 defensive lineman and 148th overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Although Burgess has not announced who he will be selecting from, we know that Notre Dame is a finalist.

The commitment date coincides with the All-American Bowl, so most likely we will see Burgess making his choice on live television.

LSU offers 2025 four-star EDGE from Chicago

One of the top 100 players in the 2025 recruiting class has received an offer from LSU.

One of the top 100 players in the 2025 recruiting class has received an offer from LSU. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his recruiting staff made a trip to the windy city to check out one of the best edge rushers in the class of 2025.

[autotag]Chris Burgess[/autotag] is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound, four-star EDGE rusher from Chicago where he plays for Simeon High School. The Simeon Wolverines are currently 4-3 in the 2023 season. The Wolverines are currently fifth in their conference standings with three games left.

There are currently no Crystal Ball projections at this time for Burgess but Notre Dame is a 30% favorite to land him per On3.

Film Analysis: Burgess is a powerful guy who does a great job using his strength to fight off blockers and make multiple tackles for loss.

Notre Dame ‘definitely’ a contender for 4-star Simeon EDGE Chris Burgess

Burgess’ recruitment seems to be pretty wide open.

With IMG Academy’s disruptive five-star DT David Stone off the board and committed to Oklahoma, college programs will be shifting their attention to other highly-ranked defensive linemen in the recruiting class of 2024.

One such prospect to keep an eye on is Simeon (Ill.) four-star edge Chris Burgess Jr., who has offers from 31 different schools. According to Adam Gorney at Rivals, Notre Dame is “definitely” a major contender.

“All of Burgess’ games are on Saturdays this year which makes putting together a visit schedule problematic but the 2025 four-star defensive end from Chicago (Ill.) Simeon has two huge matchups already on the calendar. Notre Dame is definitely a major contender for Burgess and he will be in South Bend when the Irish host Ohio State as he will double-dip with the Buckeyes since he’s seeing them again when they visit Michigan to close out the regular season.”

Depending on which of the four major recruiting services you look at, Burgess (6-foot-4, 241 pounds) ranks as high as No. 2 in overall in Illinois, No. 9 at edge and No. 114 nationally.

While his rankings are pretty consistent, Burgess’ recruitment seems to be wide open. On3’s prediction model currently has Notre Dame as a weak favorite at 29.1%, followed by Illinois (20.5%), Michigan (17.6%) and Ohio State (7.5%).

The Fighting Irish could certainly use a shot in the arm for their class of 2024. After ranking in the top five earlier in the cycle, they’ve stagnated and sunk to No. 12 in the nation.
