4-star LB Elijah Barnes to visit with LSU this weekend

The Tigers are hosting a top-100 prospect this weekend as they look to sway him from in-state Texas and others.

The Tigers continue to push for top prospects in the 2025 class, and they’ll be hosting one of its top linebackers for a visit this weekend.

Four-star Skyline (Dallas) linebacker [autotag]Elijah Barnes[/autotag] recently included LSU in his final 10 schools, and he’ll be on campus in Baton Rouge to check things out as the Tigers prepare to begin spring ball.

Barnes is a top-100 prospect according to 247Sports and ranks as a top-15 linebacker in the class. He holds no Crystal Ball projections at the moment, but the in-state Texas Longhorns are currently a heavy favorite to land his services according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

The Tigers will hope this weekend trip is able to sway him away from the Longhorns and some of his other suitors as they look to build on what could be the best class in the nation.

It has been reported that 2025 4-star linebacker Elijah Barnes will now visit Texas A&M on Saturday, Jan. 27.

After hosting a plethora of 2025 prospects last weekend, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is close to adding his first player in the Aggies 2025 class, as four-star cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway is now predicted to land with the program after his recent visit.

Sticking to defense, more prospects are set to descend on College Station in the coming weeks, including 2025 four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes out of Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas.

Barnes is currently positioned as On3’s 77th-ranked player in the 2025 class, the 13th-ranked linebacker, and the 15th-ranked player in Texas, and is set to enter his senior season Skyline. During his 2023 junior campaign, Barnes recorded 65 tackles (57 solo tackles), three sacks, five interceptions, and 12 tackles for loss on the year.

2025 linebacker Elijah Barnes discusses Tennessee offer, Vols’ staff, upcoming visit

2025 linebacker Elijah Barnes discusses Tennessee offer, the Vols’ staff and upcoming visit.

Tennessee extended an offer to four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes on May 17.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker is from Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas.

Barnes discussed his offer from Tennessee and updated his recruitment with Vols Wire.

“Tennessee is a great program, but I always tell people my mind is not on any top school,” Barnes said. “All schools are even, and I’m just taking my time and still doing my research, taking it slow.”

Tennessee’s culture surrounding the program has sparked Barnes’ interest in the Vols.

“The program, the environment, the coaching staff, and the people that played there, you can’t go wrong with a school that holds thousands of people during a game,” he said. “It’s a different type of culture in Tennessee.”

Barnes has built relationships with linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and defensive graduate assistant Forrest Lehman.

“They want to work with you and just sit down and talk football, let you know more about their defensive scheme and walk you through it,” Barnes said.

Barnes is the No. 124 overall prospect and No. 11 linebacker in the class of 2025. He ranks as the No. 3 linebacker and No. 21 player in Texas, according to On3 Sports industry rankings.

Barnes’ versatility is a point of emphasis with Tennessee’s coaching staff.

“They told me I’m the right type of guy for their defense,” he explained. “I’m a great fit and they could move me around because I’m versatile and can play more than one position.”

He earned Texas District 11-6A Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors as a sophomore last season.

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Barnes plans on visiting Tennessee for the first time this summer and possibly a second trip during the season, while continuing to build relationships.

“Trying to take a visit this summer to get to know the coaching staff, look at the facilities, get to know the players and have a great time down there,” Barnes said. “Hopefully come to a game to get to hear that crowd.

“I’m looking for relationships with coaches. That’s the biggest thing to see if I’m the right person for them.”

Barnes is not in a rush to make a commitment decision.

“I’m just taking it slow doing my research and trying to get on campus to check things out,” Barnes said. “Then when the time comes, I will make my decision and go to the school that wants me.”

LSU’s coaching staff took a trip to Dallas as they search for their next star linebacker. They may have found him at Skyline High School.

[autotag]Elijah Barnes[/autotag] is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound, four-star linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class. He plays for the Skyline Raiders, who finished the 2022 season 0-10, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have any great players.

Barnes is an exception as he holds multiple Division I offers. There are no crystal ball projections for him but SMU is a 33% favorite per On3.

Film Analysis: Barnes is a great athlete that can make plays on both sides of the ball. He plays middle linebacker for the Raiders and uses great vision to find the ball carrier and take him down.
