Former USC QB accepts East-West Shrine Bowl invitation

Kedon Slovis prepares for his big moment.

BYU quarterback Kedon Slovis accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Slovis, who spent only one year at BYU after playing for USC and Pitt, threw for nearly 12,000 yards in his five-year college career.

Slovis finished the 2023 season with 1,716 passing yards and 12 touchdowns to 6 interceptions in eight starts, going 5-3.

“[Kedon Slovis] is one of most naturally accurate passers in the 2024 class. When we talk to NFL scouts, they love his ball placement on midrange throws that are so critical in pro game. The NFL is all about fitting ball into tight windows and Slovis has that skill,” said Jim Nagy, the director of the Senior Bowl.

If drafted, Slovis would be the third consecutive BYU starting quarterback to be selected in the NFL draft, following Zach Wilson and Jaren Hall. Slovis has carved out a long and winding path which has taken him from USC to Pittsburgh to BYU, and now to the pre-draft events in which he gets a big chance to make a significant impression on scouts and evaluators. We wish Kedon Slovis the best as he pursues his NFL dream.

9 Shrine Bowl participants that could become future Patriots

Patriots fans should keep an eye on these players in the 2023 Shrine Bowl.

The East West Shrine Bowl is upon us, and there is some history with the game and the New England Patriots.

In 2022, the Patriots selected Jack Jones, Pierre Strong Jr., and Tyquan Thornton in the NFL draft, while signing D’Eriq King, Brad Hawkins, and LaBryan Ray as undrafted free agents. All six players appeared in the Shrine Bowl that year.

Like most teams, the Patriots usually scout for future players on the practice squad, camp invites, or for future roster maneuvers. So if the Patriots select a player for the game, there’s a good chance they could meet again down the line.

New England will be coaching the West, while the Atlanta Falcons oversee the East. So they’ll get a better sense of how these prospects prepare, practice, and carry themselves. But they’ll also have plenty of chances in-game to see these players up close and personal from both sides.

A true advantage for both the Patriots and Atlanta Falcons is the fact that both NFL teams will get to start having conversations with the prospects, while watching them prepare first-hand.

For the sake of this piece, we wanted to focus on the players the Patriots will see all week, as this is the first time the game is featuring NFL coaching staffs. So the Patriots’ scouting may slightly change.

Here are the players fans should be keeping an eye on.

Which Badgers made the East-West Shrine Bowl watch list?

The East-West Shrine Bowl will once again serve as a college football all-star game for a purpose. The game supports the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital while featuring the best players in the country participating in a postseason event.

The game released a lengthy watch list ahead of the 2022 season. The only requirement for selection is that the player is eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Eight Badgers are on the East-West Shrine Bowl watch list, including players on both sides of the line as well as one of the stars of Wisconsin’s running back room.

Here is a look at the eight Badgers to make the watch list:

WATCH: Jack Sanborn makes a terrific play in East-West Shrine Bowl

The Badger linebacker was making plays on Thursday

One of the first steps in the NFL draft process for former Wisconsin linebacker Jack Sanborn was the East-West Shrine Bowl on Thursday.

Sanborn participated in the nation’s longest running college football all-star game in a chance to impress numerous NFL scouts in the stands.

The Illinois native made a play we have seen numerous times throughout his Wisconsin career. On an obvious passing down, Sanborn stepped up to stop any hopes of a quarterback run as he punched the football out with his right hand.

Wisconsin football’s Twitter account showed love to No. 57 yesterday:

Sanborn’s journey continues all spring long as he prepares for the NFL draft. The 2022 draft begins on April 28.
