Texas’ Jonathon Brooks won the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Texas running back Jonathon Brooks was awarded the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week for his stellar performance against No. 24 Kansas. Brooks was also granted the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
He rushed for a career-high 218 yards last week, averaging just over 10 yards per carry and two touchdowns. Brooks also caught one pass for 23 yards.

Here are 10 of the greatest high school running backs in Texas history.
Some of the most outstanding performers in the history of the sport got their start playing high school football in Texas. That tradition is especially rich at the running back position, where the state has produced several all-time special athletes. Some of them went on to win Heisman trophies, others had prestigious awards named after them and some even played in the NFL and became Pro Football Hall of Famers.

Only 10 people have ever won a Heisman and gone onto the Hall of Fame. And 3 of them are Raiders greats. Set your DVRs Raider Nation.
“This is an amazing feat, man. Only ten guys have been able to accomplish this. More men have walked the moon than to have been able to accomplish what we’ve accomplished,” said Tim Brown in front of six other NFL legends to open the upcoming FOX documentary ‘The Perfect 10’.
Those seven legends all have something special in common. They’re being called ‘The Perfect 10’ because they make up the ten men in the world have hoisted both the Heisman Trophy and have a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
‘The Perfect 10’ will premiere on FOX this Saturday, February 11 at 5 pm Pacific (8pm ET). And if you’re a Raiders fan, you will want to set your DVR.
No team is more well represented in this exclusive club than the Raiders.
Of the seven NFL legends in that room, three are Raiders greats.
The first to join the club was Marcus Allen. Then it was Tim Brown in 2015. And Charles Woodson completed the ten in 2021.
“To have this individual type of accomplishment and to have it be so few who have done it is really mind boggling, you know,” Woodson told Raiders Wire. “I was thinking earlier about the amount of kids who played little league football, high school football, college football, the few that make it to the NFL, and then to just carve that down to just ten guys that have done something like that with the history of the game, that is really quite amazing and hard to put it into words.”
Woodson said as a kid he had imagined himself winning the Heisman Trophy and winning championships (something he also did) but the Hall of Fame was not something he grew up imagining. And even the Heisman seemed out of reach once he switched to defense at Michigan.
“When I got to college and chose to play defense, that dream was pretty much…that was a wrap. Because defensive players don’t win that award,” Woodson said of his Heisman hopes. “So, for me to get to my junior year and to have the success we had as a team, to make the plays at the right time that I made as an individual player, when those things start to happen, that’s when it’s like ‘oh man’ and that dream that was kind of a fleeting thought in my mind was back. . . Then to be invited to the ceremony and ultimately have my name called, holy cow, that was an incredible moment.”
The four other NFL legends on hand for ‘The Perfect 10’ include Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, Barry Sanders, and Roger Staubach. The three not present are OJ Simpson, and Doak Walker (deceased), and Paul Hornung (deceased).
Earl Campbell was a man among boys.
Earl Campbell was a problem for NFL defenses. The Longhorns great rode strength, athleticism and tenacity to a strong NFL career for the Houston Oilers.
Prior to his career with Houston, the Tyler Rose earned the Heisman Trophy, coming within one win of a national championship. However, some of his best football came at the next level.
Video surfaced on Twitter of the legendary running back during his time in Houston. The run displayed Campbell’s balance, explosion and football IQ as he ran through and over the Los Angeles Rams defenders.

On the play, Campbell received a toss to the left, evading a defender on one foot before turning upfield. Then, Earl did what most coaches would advise against, lowering his head into the defender’s chest.
Leading with his helmet would normally be seen as a spinal hazard. The Los Angeles linebacker ended up absorbing the forceful blow, while Campbell ran upfield unscathed.
In a last ditch effort, Rams defenders pulled the powerful running back down by his jersey, ripping it off his shoulder pads. There will never be another Earl Campbell.
Keep your eyes on No. 5 against Baylor.
It is quite possible that Friday’s matchup with Baylor could be the last time we see [autotag]Bijan Robinson[/autotag] put on the Burnt Orange in a regular season game. The five-star signee in the 2020 recruiting class has been as advertised for the Texas Longhorns.
This season Robinson is the No. 6 rusher in FBS with 1,401 yards. His yards per rush average of 6.12 ranks No. 18 among rushers with at least 100 carries. Bijan’s 16 rushing touchdowns put him No. 5 this season behind four players tied at 18.
It isn’t just the national rankings this season either, Robinson has been among the best in Texas Longhorns history. Not too shabby considering he has worn the same jersey as [autotag]Ricky Williams[/autotag], [autotag]Earl Campbell[/autotag], [autotag]Cedric Benson[/autotag], [autotag]Jamaal Charles[/autotag], and [autotag]Eric Metcalf[/autotag].
With just two games remaining, it could be three depending on how the final week of Big 12 games play out, Robinson could finish top five in several categories. He won’t win a Heisman like Williams or Campbell, but he could take home the Doak Walker Award given to the nation’s top running back. Time will tell if he joins Williams, Cedric Benson, and D’Onta Foreman as Texas Longhorns who won the award.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has broken yet another franchise record during the Week 9 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
One week after he broke the franchise record for most total touchdowns, Henry notched the top mark for the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history, passing Earl Campbell’s 73.
Henry scored the 74th rushing touchdown of his career in the second quarter from one yard out, giving the Titans a 14-9 lead.
The score was his second of the night and came on the heels of Henry setting it up with a 56-yard gain, his longest of the 2022 campaign. Check out both plays below.

Texas has a rich history of excellent running back play.
Before Bijan Robinson became a superstar in the Texas backfield, the Longhorns had a rich history of excellent running back play over the past six decades.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly ranked the top 100 running backs in college football from the past 60 seasons. Texas has produced plenty of candidates to be considered for the list.
We see very few running backs getting 25 carries per game, and only three RBs have won the Heisman in the 21st century. The position is evolving, but it’s still a key piece of almost every college football offense. So let’s take a moment to commemorate the best backs we’ve seen.
Of two Heisman winners, four Doak Walker Award winners and multiple All-Americans who have worn the burnt orange over the years, five former standout Longhorn running backs ended up on Connelly’s list.
Texas and USC are the only schools with five former players making the cut.
Here is where each Texas running back ranks in the top 100:
