Eagles HC Nick Sirianni on the special handshake he shares with QB Jalen Hurts

After winning his first game as head coach, Nick Sirianni gave some insight on the special handshake he shares with QB Jalen Hurts

One of the perks of Nick Sirianni being such a young head coach is the instant connection he has with second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts. Sirianni is still young enough and in tuned with the culture to have a strong mutual rapport with his starting quarterback.

During his Sunday’s 32-6 season-opening victory against the Falcons on the road, Hurts and Sirianni shared a unique handshake in the video from The Philly Pod.

The Eagles head coach attributed that to copying the same handshake he does with his son after he does something good.

Hurts isn’t a child, but Sirianni’s approach to building trust and transparency can only lead to bigger and better things with his quarterback.

Landon Dickerson is still working his way back from ACL surgery along with Rodney McLeod and both players could be game-time decisions despite being cleared and on the active roster.

Davion Taylor has been dealing with a calf injury since the middle of training camp and will likely be a game-time decision as well.

Atlanta is the favorite in the matchup and will enter the contest pretty healthy, with just Brandon Copeland landing on their injury report.

Darius Slay brings a presence to the Eagles defense and as the veteran cornerback prepares to open his ninth NFL season, he’s looking to set an early tone down in Atlanta.

During his Wednesday media session, Slay told Jeff Skversky of 6ABC, that he wants to “set the tone” on Sunday and get Nick Sirianni his first NFL win.

Slay’s statement says a lot about how Eagles players view the rookie head coach who has preached accountability and discipline from day one.

Sunday’s game also provides a huge early-season matchup with Falcons star wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

Darius Slay hints at Rodney McLeod missing Eagles season opener at Atlanta while continues to be cautious with his surgically repaired ACL

The Eagles didn’t put Rodney McLeod on the PUP list or injured reserve, so he won’t miss the first six weeks of the regular season.

It does appear that Philadelphia’s captain and veteran safety will miss the season opener at Atlanta on Sunday.

During his Wednesday media session before practice, Darius Slay hinted at McLeod not making the trip.
